I recently joined as a secondary member, so have not had a chance to experience many of the benefits yet, but so far, Bay East has more bureaucracy and red tape than any other association I’ve encountered. And I’ve been a member of 12 different boards up and down the state.
Walking in the front door, it’s very nondescript. In the entry, they have the reception at front, then a cubicle field surrounding. Once you go out and down the hall, you get to the training/​conference rooms, and those are very professional and well-​laid out. There’s a large projector screen at front, but also two flat screen TVs mounted near the back for folks who can’t see.
Orientation I went to was all info that is readily available elsewhere. I could see it being helpful for new agents and people who need a lot of hand holding but I would have preferred to have the 5 hours of my life back.
Everyone on staff I’ve spoken with has been friendly and helpful, but I’ve run into a few points where hands were tied by bureaucracy and unnecessary rules that shouldn’t apply given the circumstances.

I have Bay East do all of my computer work. I have not thrown anything at them that they can’t solve. Having lost my paid nerd to a day job, having my Bay East nerds is a real life saver. Alan Thompson is my go to guy but they are all great.
On another note, we get our group health insurance through the association and a ton of referrals.

I brought my laptop in for an emergency fix and the tech guy came out and was very friendly and fixed it while I was there. Very cool that the association offers this. I wish Bay East and CCAR were more of a partner. My broker is a part of Bay East, but I live in Martinez, so I pass right by CCAR in Walnut Creek on my way to Pleasanton. Luckily I don’t have to drive to Pleasanton much.
