Pleasant Hill Elementary

Amazing school. Amazing playground as well. I miss all of the old teachers that used to be here. Carnoween was very fun and exciting as usual. Loved helping out for Carnoween.

I hate to do 1 star because the teachers my son has had is incredible; however the office staff & ‘traffic duty folks’ leaves a lot to be desired. Being from Jamaica I get annoyed when the race card is used & as such I refrain from going there, but that is the only thing that makes sense with the treatment my son & I get from this school-​almost 3 yrs later. One may wonder why not move him — bottom line is I refuse to let anyone intimidate or force my son out of a school because of his skin color. Not only did the guy directing traffic this morning yell at me & my son, but yanked open my car door, then slammed it shut because I apparently needed to pull forward more, which I was attempting to do but my poor son was so traumatised he could not even get to close the door back so I can pull forward before this idiot yanked the door open. This past weekend I volunteered for Carnoween and this same guy told me after I got there I wasn’t needed and since I signed up for multiple shifts I can look around and figure if I am needed at any time or not. Coupled with what happened this morning this shows this guy obviously has an issue with me and the only thing I am guilty of is having black skin… I refuse to have him think he can break me. I started by saying the teachers were incredible; which validates what I have always known ONLY uneducated, clueless, low self esteem fools be racist towards anyone else so they can feel better about themselves. I already had a dicussion with the Principal months ago about a situation with the office staff and I left her a message 7:40 this morning that I am hoping to get a response to at some point today.

When it was time for my son to go to Kindergarten, we thought we’d be in the Walnut Creek School District — we live in Walnut Creek, after all. What do you know, we’re NOT. We belong to the Mt. Diablo School District. Yes, I know, we should have found that out before we bought our home. Actually, our real estate agent did tell us about school districts, but somehow we didn’t really focus on it since he was 3 at the time and it seemed so far far away. Anyway, back to the story, we were diappointed.
THEN, when we went to the enrollment day, which they call «All-​in-​One» day, we found out that the school has involved parents, good teachers, and even a foundation. AND, this sounds crazy, EVEN A COMPUTER LAB FOR KINDERGARTENERS — yeah, they go once a week.
The downsides of the school are the same that any school has: fundraisers that are optional (but not really), budget issues (this upcoming 08 – 09 year will be even tougher), and turnover of principals (we had three principals for the 07 – 08 school year).
But the school really does its best to make new families feel welcome — giving plenty of opportunities for volunteerism that involve little time to once a week (probably more). And the parent involvement and the dreaded fundraising help fill the gap of the funding from the government.
We feel very lucky that our kids go to this school.
