Seaside Shotokan is a Traditional Japanese Shotokan style Karate-​do school. Our student base is predominantly professionals and families who choose to train in a Marital-​art for: discipline, health, strength, and self defense.

Most classes are appropriate for any level or age, from beginner to advanced, teenager to retiree.

We also offer various fitness classes including Stretch, Yoga, Dance, and Tai Chi.

History

Established in 1996.

Seaside Shotokan was founded in Playa del Rey by Sensei Penny A. Ringwood, 6th DAN.

The dojo started as an ITKF (International Karate Federation) affiliated school, and was afiliated with ITKF until 2001. Seaside has since operated as an independent dojo, adhereing to JKA/​ITKF training standards.

Meet the Manager

James O.

Manager

James Oates is a long time member of Seaside Shotokan, currently holding the rank of 2nd DAN. He began training with Sensei Penny Ringwood at the dojo in 2001.

Jim currently manages the dojo, and teaches Karate classes along with fellow senior students Tatiana Lesnanksy and Joe John McVey.
