One of my all-time favorite PDR joints, but it seems it is closed. RIP, Outlaws.

Drove to Outlaws on November 1, 2013 and it appears to be closed. Kind of surprised to see this establishment closed on a Friday night. Love Outlaws but it appears to be out of business. Can anyone confirm? I would love to be wrong.

Must have been an off night, ribs were dried out and underside of rack was gray(unmarinated). Disappointing.

This place makes a MEAN burger! If you want one of the best burgers in the area and a real authentic flavor, look no further. In short it’s about as good as it gets and they has a lot of drink options on the menu, they make a really good sidecar and have great beer choices as well. Kind of quiet as most people have said, but that is usually the case in playa del Rey. Awesome service also. And close to local playa bars which are steps away. As always the free parking is a plus too! Only downer is it’s pretty pricey for a burger and fries, tax and tip added on. rare occasions ill splurge on outlaws.

Don’t expect anything fancy or great service here but if you’re looking for a regular hearty burger this is the place to go– I mean BBQ home style burger nothing crazy. Their papitas — or short steak fries– are perfectly crisp and salty. This is my go to place when I’m craving a regular good burger. They now have mexican food but this is not the place to go for that

It’s good — Outlaws was a work go-to place for birthdays and goodbye lunches at my former job. Never a wait and you can sit quickly with a large group. Burgers are what you go for — they are delish and huge. Service was always spotty — but you kinda expect that when you walk in. The weather sign out front is pretty darn funny too.

Had a good time here until i checked my credit card statement a couple days later and realized that they had charged me an extra $ 10 because of a mistake that they had made. The story is that the waitress who is also the manager, forgot to charge us a round of drinks so she decided to add the extra charge among 3 credit cards that we used. We also paid with some cash too. I want to say that I’m not against paying for what we ordered but I was appalled that they would just tack on extra to our bill at their own discretion AFTER we had already signed our bills. Out of principle I told her that this was wrong and was even more appalled when she justified her discretionary charge. She only refunded me my money after 10 minutes of going back and forth. I really found this to be deceptive and wouldn’t recommend anyone to go here. If you do, DON’T PAYWITH A CARD!

I took my wife here after church today on the recommendation of a friend off of an online message board, . Although my allergy’s were taking advantage of my taste-buds today, and I can’t give a great review as per taste of the«Outlaw Gang» burger. My wife however loved her«Huevos Rancheros» specialty and coffee. I can’t wait to come back and try again after my allergies clear up a little bit and I can actually taste something.

I wasn’t sure about trying this place because of the range of previous reviews posted. I wanted ribs on the 4th of July in a decent sit down place. This place exceeded my expectations. You can choose from a variety of burgers, ribs, chicken and they make homemade potato chips. I had the half rack of baby back pork ribs which came with a choice of 2 sides and soup or salad for $ 19. My salad was pretty big but unremarkable. I asked for honey dijon dressing; whatever I got on the side was too sweet, whitish and had dill. I was going to ask for another kind of dressing but say nah, since I was expecting a big dinner platter. Omg, my half rack looked like 10 ribs and were really good. There were actually 8, but there was a lot of meat above and in between the ribs. My mashed potatoes were too thin but otherwise good. The mex corn I chose had chopped pieces of green pepper and onions. Some red pepper would’ve been nice for aesthetic reasons. It also would’ve been nice to have bbq beans as a side option. I believe there were only green beans. I prefer eating these ribs without either bbq sauce they gave me. One sauce was smoky and good but gelatinous. The other is vinegary which I don’t like. We ate outside and were able to see a few fireworks toward the end of the meal. I wish they would replace or cover the vinyl table covering because it was sticky. The service was good. My friend liked her tri-tip sandwich with salad and my other friend liked her burger although her fries were small bits and looked overdone. Outlaws has a parking lot which is great because parking is scarce in this area. I think their prices are fair for the rib platter. I give Outlaws 3 ½ stars for the food and service but bump it up to 4 for having a convenient parking lot.

NO idea how this place can have more than a 1 star average rating. People talked about the burgers being good in their reviews, so I ordered one when we went here to watch the NCAA basketball championship game. Not only did it take FOREVER despite the fact that the place wasn’t crowded at all(which should have been a warning considering it was a game night and it’s a bar), but the burger itself was terrible. The meat was dry and thin. The fixings looked old and the flavor was definitely lacking. My friend got the fish and chips which looked small and store bought. If that wasn’t bad enough, the prices were OUTRAGEOUS. This place does know it’s not downtown and Michelin star rated right? Their prices certainly don’t show it. If you really want a beer and a burger, Tripel across the street is INFINITELY better and worth the money.

Outlaws is a country & crime-themed restaurant in untamed West Playa del Rey. It’s a frontier bar where reckless booze & brews blaze a sanctuary from the fiery Pacific sun for the lawless who dare to defy justice. Oh, and it’s got free parking … The menu is full of grub named after some of the most famous outlaws in history. There’s the Jesse James Club Sandwich, Calamity Jane Chicken Sandwich, and a Bonnie Parker Tuna Salad Sandwich. The burgers have modern villains like the Nixon Triple Cheese Burger, Pancho Villa Spicy Burger, and even an Imelda Marcos Ham & Cheese Burger. Unfortunately, the burly names turned out to be more a parody than an indication of quality. The Jack the Ripper Burger was my choice not so much for the killer name, but for the Bleu Cheese and Bacon on top. The toppings didn’t matter because the Beef Patty was as dry as the beach a couple blocks away while the Lettuce & Tomato were about as fresh as the concept behind naming your burgers after murderers. The only saving grace for Outlaws was a side of house Cottage Fries. The home-made Potato Chips were served warm with just the right amount of salt. If you are drinking at the bar, I recommend these chips. My better half was hungry and got the Prime Rib(available only on Fridays/Saturdays) with sides of Steamed Veggies and Fries. The big hunk of beef was manly. By manly, I mean it was tough and had too much fat around the middle. We tried 3 – 4 side sauces to make it better with a Chipotle Steak Sauce(for prime rib??) finally doing the job. The sides were forgettable. Seriously, I forgot everything about them. Service was ok, but definitely not speedy. There was a big screen TV to keep me distracted, but getting drinks, food, and the check required patience. Outlaws Bar & Grill is a local hangout for a few drinks with a tame menu. Like most Outlaws, the flaws outweigh the awes.

Last night after emerging dripping wet from a Playa Del Rey beach walk in the fog, our party of 8 was looking for a casual joint that could handle a motley crew. This is the place. Not much to look at, but then neither were we. They had various games on which I always like. The lighting was a bit bright in the room by the bathroom and a little more ambiance would have been welcome. We all got burgers. I didn’t hear any complaints. I think I’m pickier than most because being conservative about my meat consumption, when I do chose to partake, I want to love it. My friend and I split the Froggie burger. It was too heavy on pepper, so I wouldn’t get it again, but I enjoyed the grilled onions and the fries that come with the burger. I also liked it that they had a good libation menu, including two of my favs: Duvel and cider. All in all, if I lived in the neighborhood I might try another burger and/or come back to sit at the bar or in the room by the bar to watch a game and have a beer or cider, particularly after a beach workout. But if the burger wasn’t any more satisfying than the one I had last night, I’d probably find another burger place and just stick to the occasional beer. PS If you aren’t familiar with my reviews, I’m pretty strict about giving stars, and two stars does not mean a bad experience, rather it can mean that my experience was mixed or just okay(but as Unilocal says, I’ve had better), while 3 stars is good, 4 is great, and 5 is outstanding. However, with all the restaurant/bar choices it is true that often I don’t go back to a 2 star joint. Haven’t given a 1 yet and hope to never have to. One stars are probably the places that after I walk in, I walk back out pretending to have to take a phone call… and never return.

Driven by this place 1000s of times — hit it for the first time the afternoon on a Saturday(Dec 3rd) as RONNIE’S DINER had closed at 2:30 pm & then Italian CANTALINI’S SALERNOBEACH did not start dinner until 4pm as had parked to originally go to eat there. Hence decided to try OUTLAWS as a block to the east. We the only ones at a table(was between lunch & dinner times) with one man at the bar waiting for his wife. I was expecting a steakhouse, was more like a «dive» bar. 3 bottles of WINDEX hanging from the hostess podium. Both the Tri-Tip plater … me a very average dinner salad, he a sad looking bowl of «chicken vegetable soup». Both agreeing the Tri-Tip was just average. Best thing on my plate was the mashed potatoes with gravy. Though the plate itself was large in size & I ate everything, I was still a tad hungry. A sour dough roll with the meal would have been nice. We asked for a to-go container(he had a couple pieces of meat left) and the check. Our waitress went to the podium, looked at her cell 1st … then she went out to the patio for a phone call(what about waiting 5 more minutes to take care of the ONLY customers in there?, as no one would have been in there & she could have talked then). 2 stars(mashed potatoes bringing it up from 1 Star) as I have experienced better. Won’t be eating there again ~ though may be someone else’s favorite place.

When I chose to write my first review on The Website, this restaurant was the lucky recipient. Now, embarking on my third year of participation(cheap literary trick to make me appear more seasoned – today is my second anniversary), I can continue to recommend the burgers and fries here, but would caution against cocktails unless you have a bottomless wallet. Draft beer could be the ideal compromise, but my budget mostly allows for ice water. Totals to date are 116 reviews, 23 updates and 56 friends. Here’s to another year of writing about places and activities you can enjoy or avoid amidst a possibly shrinking personal balance sheet. Keep those cards and letters coming!

Bacon and Avocado are top contenders for a place in my heart. They also happen to be a part of the Paleolithic lifestyle and diet. AND they go great with everything and look sexy sitting on a large slab of meat. Look at you avocado and your sexuality, sitting there all green and full of goodness and you bacon, look at how you glisten in the sun your salty porkness going so well with so many dishes. *rawwwrrrr* Yea I talk to my food, what, you don’t? Ok, enough food porn. Outlaws has really good burgers and super service. It’s a bit pricey but it’s a nice treat. Especially since this global warming kicked in and it’s freakin 82 degrees in January! The patio are is very nicely kept and I happened to go when there was a nice breeze kicking about. The fries are humungo! Potatoes are not Paleo but I had to have one just to test it. I wish that they offered sweet potato alternatives. I would like to come back and try the other dishes and during breakfast times. They were really accommodating when I made special requests like no buns and extra lettuce. Definitely coming back for more. I’m holding off on a 5 star until I do.

I really like this place. It was recommended to me by a friend who lives nearby. They have some beer club where you write down every kind of beer you drink there. After you’ve had 100 different beers, you win something(at least I think you win something). I keep going back and adding beers to my roster. I usually get food while I’m there and I have been happy with it every time. I’ve been with different groups of friends and so far everyone has enjoyed it. Good beer selection and the food portions are B I G.

Yesterday I had a dentist appt. near UCLA, and it was my first full day out in about two and a half weeks, thanks to the virus from hell that’s been going around. I stopped on my way home to gather info for a couple of reviews of SaMo parks, and then realized I had overdone. I was spent. And starving. My route back home took me right past Outlaws, and I remembered the great reviews of their burgers… so in I went. It’s a lot bigger than it looks from the outside — there is a sunny outdoor patio in front, as well as a bar and three dining room areas. And it’s vintage up the wazoo, right down to wood plank floors from at least 30 years ago. My kind of place. See the photos. There is even a «library» dining room with a wall of books for borrowing. Keep in mind that you are about a block from the beach, so location could not be more ideal. And Outlaws even has a parking lot. Wish I had gotten my server’s name, because she patiently gave me so much info about Outlaws: — I learned that all their burger meat is fresh, never frozen. — I learned that there is a young man who regularly consumes the 2-lb. burger for $ 25. There are even photos of him in Outlaw’s collection(the burger looks as big as my laptop, only round…) — I learned that Outlaws has 86 different beers on their beer menu, as well as a full bar. — I learned, happily, that Outlaws serves breakfast complete with Bloody Marys on Sat. & Sun.(only) from 9am to around 2:45pm. This is a charming, mellow place that could not have offered more friendly service. I never would have thought to stop here for a burger had I not noticed the Unilocal reviews. I thought it was just a bar. As for the burger — it did not disappoint. There were many enticing menu burger selections to choose from, but I ended up creating my own: 1⁄3 lb. with Swiss, lettuce, tomato, sliced dill pickle, grilled onions, & mayo. I got it to go, as I was seriously fatigued and just needed to get home. And that burger smelled so damn good on the drive to Redondo that I almost pulled over to eat it by the side of the road… Outlaws, I will return to try your weekend breakfast real soon.
