Del Rey Dental

First time visit. Dental clean and X-​ray was $ 156 but they had quoted me $ 126 before I visited so not sure what changed? That’s 20 percent above quotes. I didn’t argue.
Not very hard sell on other services although they did push for a mouth guard for little below $ 400. Efficient, nice people & knowledgable. Cleaning was pretty quick — about half or less time spent than other places. It’s my fifth dentist in six years. We used to pay for dental insurance unit 2 years ago but felt it served very little purpose other than dentists trying to max our coverage every time. Actually is better not having the dental insurance now — so easier to shop around and no hard sell on anything.

I haven’t been to a Dentist in 3 years, because Ive really disliked some of my experiences in the past, but I figured it’s time to get back in there.
I’ve walked by this place many times and I like the way it looks from the outside, so I figured I’d look into it. Read tons of great reviews which helped make my decision to book an easy one. Now that I’ve been I can definitely agree that this place is 5 star worthy. Everything from the reception desk & waiting area, to the cleaning and the doctor were all 5 stars.
They intake all your medical history and information on a computer instead of paperwork. awesome.
The hygienist was one of the sweetest, warmest women I’ve ever met. So friendly and fun energy. She was telling me stories and making me smile throughout the cleaning.
The Dentist Allison was super nice and straight to the point. I also loved her «less is more» attitude about not messing with the teeth if they don’t need to be messed with. Only replacing fillings or anything when it’s only really necessary. Perfect. :) I will definitely come back

Dr. Dave & Dr. Allison (father/​daughter team) are hands down the best dentist I have encountered. My husband has been going there for years when it was first only Dr. Dave. Now my whole family goes to Del Rey Dental!
Pros– The staff are very dedicated in their practice, provide quality dental work, honest professional staff, gentle hands, never pushes to sell but offers all options, kid friendly, modern atmosphere, elevator, clean office, beautiful outdoor & indoor wait area, & easy parking.
Cons– I never waited longer than 20 minutes to be seen with an appt but the wait area is very pleasant.

You couldn’t ask for better dentists. Both Dr. Dave and Dr. Allison are dedicated experts. There’s a home town, relaxed vibe about them and they never up sell you into unnecessary procedures. First rate, for sure.

Del Rey Dental is great! Super comfortable atmosphere, everyone is nice from the receptionist to the hygienists to the Dentists.
My 10 year old daughter and I both went to visit Dr Allison, she is very kind, thorough and really takes the time to explain and educate you on your teeth and what might be going on with them. I have never had a dentist give me so much information which was really awesome. I also really liked Jennifer, the hygienist who helped me.
I definitely feel like I can trust them and they aren’t going to try to talk me into things just to make money. The location is also very convenient for me since I live in MDR. The parking situation is easy too which is always a plus! I would recommend this office to anyone!

First off I saw the 1 and 2 star reviews for Dr. Dave and Allison. That is unfortunate. However, dont let that sway you from seeing Schwartings. They have been my dentist for about 12 years now, and have moved out of the area and intend on keeping them as my dentists. I have always had great experiences with them and their staff. Always friendly and helpful. I have had some medium/​major work with them and have done me right each time and have on a couple of occasions gone beyond to help me out. I had a porcelain veneer break and come off, Dr. Schwarting came in on a Saturday on Memorial Day weekend to help me out. He and Allison both have great bedside manners, again my experiences, as well as seeing them relate with other patients when I am there.

I can’t say I love going to the dentist, who can?
However, as far as dentist offices go this is one of the best. Allison and her father both have great bedside manner as dentists, are extremely informative and clearly have their patients’ best interest in mind when they make decisions and offer recommendations. There are some doctors and dentists that will recommend and/​or strongly suggest spending tons on treatment that may not be necessary. Here they offer alternatives and are not quick to spend ‘your dollar’.
Everyone here has been pleasant and are great to work with. Nice clean, well organized, well kept office and they do their best to make you comfortable. If you’re in LA and looking for a dentist this is your spot.
Just a tip, parking out front is very limited so street parking is often the way to go. Just mind the street signs and be sure you aren’t parking on the street on a street sweeping day.

Just leaving dr Allison’s office for my first appointment and I couldn’t have been more pleased with the polite staff, professionalism, beautiful office and state of the art equipment. Dr Allison was thorough, very detailed, performed multiple tests and took her time with me which shows how important her clients are to her. I couldn’t be happier with my decision to try out del rey dental, I highly recommend it!

We just moved out of LA, after six amazing years as patients at this office. It may sound silly, but it was a little heartbreaking to know that our children will not get to experience their first trip to the dentist with Dr. Allison and the amazing staff at Del Rey Dental. Both my husband and I have gum issues, so we spend a lot of time at the dentist and Del Rey is the BEST by FAR we have individually experienced. They genuinely love teeth, and treat their patients like family. We miss you guys. Can’t recommend this practice highly enough!

I have no problem giving Dr. Allison Schwarting five stars. I came from a world of enduring long term of pain because of a mis-​diagnosis to a dentist who not only gave me professional care, but someone who gave me personal attention and most of all, someone who listened to my concerns. I am so happy to be pain-​free. I get consistent compliments on her work and I would recommend her without hesitation. She is wonderful and so is my hygenist. The space is clean, comfortable and the staff is friendly. You got my vote Dr. Allison!

Great staff in a beautiful and modern office.
Allison is fantastic with my small child. They have very nice tv’s in the exam rooms to help distract little ones with streaming cartoons. They give out stickers and a treat after the cleaning.
A quick hop down the street is the beach for a little extra reward afterwards.

Not coming back here again. I had a dental filling that fell off, and first made an appointment with Alison. She was friendly and put my filling back in. A week later it fell off and I made an appointment with David. He told me I had cavities where my filling was, and that I had to make a new filling. Why didn’t Alison see this? Why did I have to come in for another appointment?
Anyway, I asked David about the procedure of getting a new filling, and it was as if he was trying to sell to me. He suggested that I get silver filling, and I asked him about the toxicity of mercury and such. He said it’s fine as he had one himself. He scared my rockers off about my gums having «serious gum disease», chastising me for «not doing a very good job» taking care of my teeth, about cavities growing all over my teeth, «tartar everywhere», and how eventually my teeth will fall off if I don’t get a dental cleaning. Then of course, he suggested me to make an appointment for a dental cleaning with him. I had no idea what dental cleaning was, or if he was just trying to scam me. I asked him what I can do to care for my teeth as I floss and brush already, and if the mouth washes at the stores would help. He said those are useless due to their low fluoride content and that I should rather buy one from him because it has more concentration of fluoride.
He was not friendly at all and I do not think it is professional to use scare tactics and guilt trips to make a client buy from you. He really did make me feel like a bad person for «not doing a very good job». He even gave me a cold shoulder as I the office. I have no idea why.
I decided to get the opinion of two other dentists, whom all agreed that all I needed was a dental cleaning because I only had a small case of gingivitis (I was told everyone has it to a degree) that can be helped with an electric toothbrush. My orthodontist, my new dentist (who has high reviews on Unilocal), and another dentist all agreed that my gums and roots were still good and healthy.
So yeah, I don’t have a good feeling about Del Rey Dental.

The staff was nice and the Dr. was informative but I gave 2 stars because I did not like the way they handled my insurance. When I came in for my first visit, the receptionist told me she had already contacted my insurance and said «you have the best insurance I’ve ever seen! They cover everything!». I went for my cleaning and they said I needed a deep cleaning. They also said that the insurance covers it and gave me a sheet showing what they cover. The receptionist told me she would call the insurance and take care of everything.
I agreed and had it done. I came back for my 2^nd visit and they said that the insurance didn’t cover my deep cleaning. She said that the doctor I went to before had charged my insurance for deep cleaning even though I didn’t get it done.
I was upset because I thought that the receptionist had worked it out with my insurance, especially since she was raving about how great my insurance is. I had to pay a few hundred dollars… but if I were the doctor, I would have worked something out with me because it wasn’t communicated very clearly by her staff.
I won’t go back there because of this… it left a bad taste in my mouth.

This place is so wonderful, I wouldn’t even dream of going someplace else.
Del Rey Dental is very clean and comfortable. The office is very welcoming and the waiting room is charming, like someone’s living room almost.
The staff, hygienist and dentists are so personable and friendly… very disarming. They make you feel right and home and comfortable. They seem to know that most people don’t look forward to going to the dentist.
They offer a lot of dental services, but I have only ever needed a cleaning. They are very thorough, doing much more than just cleaning for teeth, but my visits always seem quick and painless.
If you are even remotely close, this is the place for you!

I’m used to my Beverly Hills Dentist where I had to park two blocks away in order not to pay for parking and the office was a functional high tech closet of a room and the lobby a palatial marble encrusted village.
Pulling into the free parking lot of Del Rey Dental I wasn’t sure if I’d driven up to someone’s house by mistake. For all I know, the dentists (a father and daughter team) might live there. There’s no lobby here. You walk upstairs and you’re in the waiting room.
And the waiting room is beautiful. You sit on a leather couch with a modest view of the Westchester street out the window. The lobby also has a big screen TV and an easily accessible bathroom with granite counter tops to boot.
In the cleaning room, there’s a water fountain on the wall next to the chair. It’s all very relaxing and has a feeling of class I wasn’t sure existed in Playa del Rey.
The hygienist and the dentist were both very professional, gentle, and very thorough. The teeth cleaning was almost an hour long and they never attempted to upsell me on teeth whitening, teeth straightening, bite plate, or any nonsense such as a «deep» cleaning.
You should expect to pay your insurance copayment before leaving. However, my visit to the dentist was a relatively painless and hassle free experience.

I have to say, I am a complete whiny baby when it comes to dentists – I’ve always had a hard time getting numb enough so that fillings don’t hurt, I hate getting the xray films jammed into my delicate gum tissue and I hate dentists who want to upsell you on a million things other than basic dental care.
I picked Del Rey Dental because they’re close to home and because of the nice reviews on Unilocal and I was so pleasantly surprised. Dr Dave was just great – I learned more about my mouth and teeth from my first visit with him than I have from any other dentist or orthodontist, he gave me some really practical advice about how to desensitize my very sensitive teeth and reassurances that my teeth were really in much better shape than I thought they were. He also has a very homey, small-​town doc approach that you don’t see from many docs which is comforting when you hate going to the dentist the way I do. The entire office staff also seems to be really conscientious and caring – just down-​to-​earth. I am sure that if I wanted to do a lot of cosmetic work Del Rey Dental would be a great place to get it done, but it’s nice to feel like their primary concern is just keeping my teeth and gums healthy.

dave, allison and the entire are simply amazing. i used to live in playa where it was super easy to walk to their office. now i live in west hollywood and with traffic its a pain to get there, but its well worth it. especially after the amazing remodel that they did to their office. but they are the ultimate in customer service, they will work with you regarding payment arrangements, planning insurance needs, planning flexible spending accounts, etc etc. i would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone. if you are searching for a dentists, then THIS WILL BE YOUR NEW DENTIST. either dave or allison are the two dentists there. they don’t accept HMO insurance, but they do accept all kinds of PPO insurance.

I hadn’t been to a dentist in probably five years (okay, maybe even longer) so I wasn’t looking forward to my first visit back. I’ve also heard lots of horror stories about dentists overcharging patients, making up fictitious «repairs» that weren’t actually needed, and so on. I searched the web for a dentist that was both nearby to my Fox Hills residence as well as one who would take Delta Dental insurance. I found a couple of positive reviews for Drs David and Allison Schwarting, a father and daughter team in Playa del Rey and called for an appointment. They were able to fit me in on short notice (I travel for my job so it’s hard to make routine appointments too far in advance since I’m usually out of town M-​F).
When I arrived, I found everyone to be extremely friendly and outgoing. They are installing a new elevator for their elderly patients (nice!) so I followed arrows on the quaintly handwritten signs
up the back stairs and in through the back patio and hallway. My cleaning was long (five years, remember?) but not unpleasant. I get vertigo if I lean back too fast, and my teeth and jaw hurt if flossed too vigorously and they took notice of both precautions and were very gentle. And best of all, I didn’t get the usual dentist’s lecture about tsk tsk tsk, you need to floss more and get your teeth cleaned more regularly, etc etc. In other words, they treat you like an adult who’s responsible for your own decisions.
Dr Allison did my exam as I believe she is taking all new patients. We discussed all of my outstanding issues (crooked teeth, several old caps wearing off of chipped teeth). She was very thorough and really enjoys talking about teeth and dental health. It’s obvious she loves her profession.
I had also picked this practice because they are certified with the Invisalign teeth straightening system (i.e., clear plastic ‘braces’). I already knew that I wanted to go this route as I had never had my teeth straightened as a child and they’ve gotten worse over the years. Dr. Allison explained the system to me and did not make any attempt to «sell» me on the procedure, which runs about $ 4800. I actually had to almost push her to just go ahead and set up an appointment to get it started (remember, I had already researched it and decided I wanted them).
I’ve been doing the Invasalign now for about five weeks. You go in every few weeks for more inserts and she checks my teeth and progress.
This is a small, family-​run practice where everyone clearly enjoys their jobs and the atmosphere. They have been completely honest with me, with no «up-​selling» or any other unscrupulous tactics that you hear so much about these days. It’s like going to the legendary small-​town family doctor (except with all the modern technology). You just can’t find that anymore in Los Angeles. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a new dentist on the west side. You won’t be sorry.
