In town for work and went there for lunch. There were six of us. 1. SERVICE — Slow. The locals with us said that Guidry’s is know to be slow. 2. FOOD — The guys ordered burgers and I had a cup of the soup of the day. It was thick and rich and literally served in a cup filled to the brim. That’s a bad visual impact, because it looks like a tiny portion that way. I had the bread pudding to go and ate it later. It was nothing remarkable. 3. CLEANLINESS — The floors were sticky.

Broccoli and crab soup was a daily special. It was delicious. The shrimp poboy I got was pretty good as well. Every day they have a half poboy and soup for 9.80 including tax. I knocked a star off because I had higher expectations for the seafood gumbo. The gumbo was good and I’ll get it again but could use some more spice to it.

My family and I were in the area. Very few restaurants that were open, so we decided to stop and try it out. My husband and I ordered poboys and soup and my girls ordered kids plates and we all shared the trio appetizer. Waitress was so nice and food was just OK. There were aLot of locals there and the place was really busy, but just wasn’t our favorite.

Pretty good Louisiana style food, but heavier than necessary, even for these parts. The building is historic and has interesting décor from the somewhat run-down restaurant contrasted against hints of a splendid past. The crawfish étouffée was delicious, but heavy and huge. The chicken gumbo and crab bisques were really good, but again– greasy. The seafood platter was all fried. Service was friendly and very patient with our demanding work group.

My family and I were traveling through Southwest Louisiana and we were referred by a local to Guidry’s in Plaquemine on a Monday night, when few restaurants were open. I was told it was good for Cajun food and I wanted to like it – I really did. This place is patronized by locals; it is definitely not a tourist trap. The service could not have been more friendly and the prices are fine. The problem is that, like many run-of-the mill Cajun places, most of the food is either fried or served with very heavy, rich sauces. The food we ordered was of those two varieties. The gumbo was good, but the crawfish etoufee was so heavy that we couldn’t eat much of it. Nice folks, though. I wish I could’ve enjoyed the food more.
