Samm’s Heating and Air Conditioning

Our AC started going out around 8pm this past Saturday night. It’s August and the highs this weekend were 100+ degrees, so the house started to warm up fast. We didn’t think we would be able to have anyone come out on such short notice, but we were desperate and didn’t like the idea of having to check in to a hotel. We called around to a few places first and either received a «sorry, we’re booked» or no answer at all. Sam’s had an on call technician, Marcus, that spoke to my husband over the phone and walked him through some troubleshooting. When they ruled out is was something that we couldn’t fix ourselves, Marcus was at our house within 30 minutes. He immediately identified the issue and even had the part on hand to replace it! We couldn’t have been happier with his level of customer service and his timeliness.

My A/​C went out completely in the middle of the night on one of the hottest days of the year. I called many other 24 hour emergency A/​C repair places and everyone was booked until next morning due to the high temperatures. I work every day and needed my A/​C working so I could get some rest. Overnight low was forecast at 84! Anyways I called this place left my phone number and they said they would send out a text to see if any techs were available. I got a call almost immediately from Karl who was able to get out to me in no time at all. He got me fixed up in about a half hour at a reasonable price, especially considering the late hour. He was also very professional. If your system goes out and your in a bind don’t panic, just give these people a call. The will be first on my list to call next time.

A few weeks back, we had some AC issues, and found Samm’s Heating and AC and thought we would give them a call. The technician came out and seemed to get the unit working. Within a couple weeks, the unit was messing up again. We again called Samm’s late at night because the extreme heat was unbearable. The technician came out, and said they couldn’t fix it, and it needed a new compressor, but still charged us for the visit.
Hence to say, we called another AC company the next morning, and they came out, and said there was nothing wrong at all with the compressor, it was just faulty wiring, done by the Samm’s technician a couple weeks earlier. The Samm’s technician didn’t put a new wire on the unit, just patched up the old one. The other AC company replaced the wire, and didn’t charge anything unlike Samm’s the previous night when they didn’t even fix anything.
I decided since the overall unit was old, maybe I should get a new one. I decided I would give Samm’s a shot again, and said I’d like a quote on a new unit. They sent a sales guy over to give me a quote. I already had a quote from the other AC company that had come out when the Samm’s salesman arrived. He said we are giving you the deal of a lifetime, for $ 11,695 for a new unit. Unfortunately, the Samm’s salesman didn’t know I had the other quote from earlier that day from the other AC company for $ 5950. I’m not sure why Samm’s would hike the price up that much. I mean, I understand the salesman wants a big commission, and the company wants profit, but I would just hope the business owner of Samm’s would understand that is the wrong way to run a business.
Summer in this Dallas heat is unbearable, and to prey on customers who are desperate for their AC to work is a wrong way to run a business, and for technicians to not know what they’re doing is probably not good for future customers.

For 9 years Samms has serviced my Heating and A/​C needs, all the technicians are knowledgable and professional, Victor and Carl super friendly and they like dogs :)

My Dad has used Samm’s for many years, and when we moved to Plano from Oregon and bought a home here, he recommended Samm’s highly. I believe they are HONEST. That’s really what you want in a service company, a mechanic, etc.
They are not the cheapest, but I know that if they say a repair needs to be done, it really does need to be done. I pay for their semi-​annual HVAC tune-​up service, and every person who has come out has been top notch professional.

Found our new home to be in need of extensive repair. Looked into several competitors for replacing our entire HVAC unit. Was really impressed by both Karl and Russ. Both do a really good job of representing their company. Have had some good contractors and some bad… SAMMS is among the best. Thank you for taking care of our home like you would yours.

Samm’s replaced our entire downstairs HVAC system with a high-​efficiency, variable-​speed 18 SEER Trane, and I was very happy with the entire process. I love that they didn’t charge a premium for coming out on a Sunday, the day our old unit died, that they treated our home with respect, wearing booties whenever they came in our house, and that they installed complimentary window units for our use until our installation was complete. Everyone at the company (from the lady who answers their phones, to their sales staff, to their installers) is very well-​trained, courteous, and professional, and I would recommend Samm’s without reservation.

Good and the bad:
GOOD: a/​c stopped working on july 4^th day, they were very quick at responding, within an hour. Very good on a holiday. Found the issue was a bad circuit board in the attic unit. Did a work-​around to get me going until they could order a new circuits board. GREAT JOB here and total charge was good for a holiday.
BAD: called my up on Monday and said they can get the OEM circuit board and it would cost me $ 850 to install. Sounded a bit pricely and I have gone through an A/​C company over changing for parts before. I got the model number from the a/​c unit and found that I could by the same OEM board on amazon for $ 150. if I’m paying $ 150 retail, just think what they are paying. But even at $ 150, changing $ 850 to replace is ridiculous. I contact them and told them I can buy it for this amount and if I did, would they install it. They said no… So I will just get it install by someone else and save $$$.
I had another a/​c company charge me $ 300 to replace a $ 25 coil. So from then on, I will double check the cost of the parts these a/​c guys are replacing. I don’t know what they seem to have to over change no much to do this… disappointing, especially with Samms. They are an angie-​list company

Had Samm’s come out to service a unit not cooling in a house I just purchased. Came out Friday morning and spent a lot of time trying to get me to have them clean coils, condenser, etc. before reluctantly adding 3 lbs of refrigerant which fixed my system. House has not been moved into yet. Came back 4 days later to find the house full of gas from a gas leak in the attic on the unit they serviced. Had to have gas company come out and shut it off and test lines. Flex pipe for gas furnace leaking badly. Either it was pushed on and starting leaking during their visit, or was already leaking and they didn’t say anything about it. Picked them because of BBB rating. Won’t have them back.

In the past year, we’ve had Samms repair both of our A/​C units/​furnaces… they were either DOA (last summer) are on life support (this spring). They offered to put more coolant in our remaining dinosaur (19 yr. old unit!) but we decided to replace. didn’t want it dying in the middle of summer since it had been living on borrowed time for the last few years… Excellent service as always, courteous and efficient employees.

I took some time to write my review because I had to make sure that the heater and the AC worked, after all I installed it at the end of January in Texas. I had to adjust a little bit because the thermostats are so much more accurate but I have no complaints about the heat or the AC.
I had to replace both my AC compressors and heating units. Sometime in August 2014 Russ came to my house and provided a very thorough inspection; he looked at some things that none of the other AC company inspectors looked at when providing their quotes. I took some time to shop around and to try and save some more money, since the units hadn’t died yet, and I never felt pressure from Samm’s to make a decision but I also didn’t feel like they had forgotten about me. When I called and asked Russ some questions comparing quotes he was professional and took his time to explain the differences. After shopping around I made my decision to go with Samm’s in January 2014. They had already provided great customer service on my old units and their prices were competitive with the other quotes but ultimately it all comes down to your gut feeling about who you want to install and maintain my equipment and so far I’m glad I went with Samm’s.
It was a two-​day installation job and the guys spent the time to get it done right. The crew was very professional and friendly the entire time they were in my house and took the time to show me some of items they were removing to further confirm my decision. Due to some poor original installation of the original unit by the builders the lines were kinked inside the ball so they had to open up my wall but they got me in touch with a handyman to brick the holes back up. (I have actually used the handyman for some other services since then I was so pleased so even their referral was great.) On the second day (Friday) they even stayed until at least 1030pm to make sure everything was running right and explained to me before leaving. To further confirm my decision, when it was time to pay there was a small discrepancy between what Russ and I had discussed verbally versus what the team had on their work order but the foreman handed it professionally and everything was worked out.
The crew also talked to me about a filter system and surge protection. Since I had just spent the money to install both units at the same time I couldn’t afford the additional costs but I will have those added soon.
I am happy with my purchase and the support I have gotten since then. I highly recommend Samm’s for your annual maintenance or a total replace and installation.

My realtor recommended Samm’s over three years ago and they have been amazing. I bought two units and also buy the annual service plan. One weekend, I got an error message on my brand new unit. Karl, the technician called me back the same day (Saturday) and walked me through some of the possible fixes so I wouldn’t have to pay an extra fee. Turned out it just needed a new air filter. I’ve worked with Karl and Javier and they are both very considerate of my home and me. They are always willing to explain what they are doing and do a great job. I’m very happy with Samm’s and recommend them to all of my friend and co-​workers.

I initially called Samm’s for a quote on replacing duct work in my home. The representative was courteous and professional. They were the best quote received. The rep asked me about a maintenance contract for my A/​C system. I was hesitant because I had done maintenance contracts in the past and it seemed like it always ended up costing more than just the contract fee. What I didn’t know was that those other companies Technicians work on commission so it was in their best interest to charge me more money, not mine. I like that Samm’s technicians are not on commission and do not add on unnecessary «repairs». I have renewed the maintenance contract ever since.

I discovered Samm’s Heating and Air Conditioning a couple of years ago through Angie’s List’s superior rating. One of the greatest HVAC contacts I have ever made (and I’m an olé lady and have made quite a few in my day). Every time I have used Samm’s they have sent the same serviceman which I appreciate immensely. It’s more like inviting an acquaintance into your home instead of another serviceman; helps build a rapport with both the serviceman and the company. My serviceman is extremely knowledgable, helpful and polite. I won’t use anybody else. They are a fantastic HVAC company and there are not many HVAC companies you can say that about!

I work for a local business in the area and I called Samm’s to come change my air filters, I specifically told them on the phone that our filter was always cut to size and different than a standard filter (I’m not in the AC industry, so how would I know exactly what kind). The sweet receptionist told me how much it would be for the visit and an estimate on how much the filter would cost. When the very nice technician came to help us out, he informed me that they did not have the filter on the truck and he would have to go get it to replace it AND that it would be an additional service fee for drive time & the labor to install (I had been quoted a 1 TIME labor fee for this whole service). I asked him to speak with his owner regarding my request to not pay DOUBLE+ labor fees to go get a filter that wasn’t on the truck (this should be included in the initial cost of the visit, this cannot be the first time they didn’t have the correct filter on the truck). He told me I needed to contact the owner myself. I called Paul, the owner, and he basically screamed about how this is normal to charge so much to change a filter because of drive time and labor (Paul, it’s not my fault you didn’t have what I needed on your truck and it is not fair to charge anyone with an old AC for extra service). After I very calmly explained to him that if this would have been quoted in the original pice I would be fine with it, but to have extra charges come up and NO SERVICE be done is absurd! Instead of understanding our situation and providing good customer service, Paul single handedly made us NEVER want to use the company again. It’s a shame because everyone else involved was super helpful and sweet. Bad owner, bad business.

I gave this company a middle-​of-​the-​road rating because I can’t judge their «work». The tech that came out and gave the estimate was very nice but I did not use them for my system replacement.
I originally called them based on their advertised «60-​month no interest» financing offer, only to find out at the end of the estimate that while there’s no monthly «interest» over 60 months, they charge a higher price upfront (which worked out to be about 3.5% over 60 months).

I have never been treated with more respect, or my home, than with the service at Samm’s Heating and Air. Their technicians were prompt, courteous, and above all knowledgeable. He arrived when he said he would and treated my home with kid gloves. I showed hi, where my HVAC was located and he took care of the rest. They have become my single choice for maintaining and servicing all of my heating and air conditioning needs. I don’t care where you search; I personally believe that this was the best experience I’ve had with a contractor.

I’ve used Samms many times in different houses. Paul Sammataro (the owner) is the best.
I deal with many types of service techs in my time and Samms is by far the the most professional, honest, and provide the best value I’ve seen.
