Our daughter has been playing the flute for a few years now and less than a year ago we found a fantastic private lessons. Our daughter had outgrown her beginners flute and we were overwhelmed with the choices and price points regarding new flutes.
We were introduced to Carolyn Nussbaum and Flute4u. She was fabulous at walking us through the options and what might be right for our daughter. With the personal attention and obvious knowledge and experience from Carolyn and her staff we found an excellent flute within our price range. Or better yet, I think the flute found us.
The Flute4u staff walked out daughter through the care of maintenance of her flute and we will most certainly be taking our flute to them for routine maintenance and any repairs. If you are looking for a new flute or simply have questions I wouldn’t hesitate to contact Carolyn and her staff.

Always a pleasure working with the staff — whether its finding a new piece of music or that perfect new flute. I’m amazed how much they stock and how quickly things arrive halfway across the country. If it has anything to do with flutes, Carolyn will have it or know exactly what you are talking about and be able to get it.

I’ve had my flute repaired here. They did a good job and managed a quick turnaround, too. (Since I’m not a pro, I always scheduled maintenance in their off season.)
When my flute started to collect more dust than notes, I decided it was time to sell it. Carolyn herself happened to be coming through Austin and arranged to meet me. Unfortunately, she didn’t call me from Georgetown as we agreed, making me late to the meet and making her husband wait on me to arrive. I felt bad for the delay, but I did all I could to make it smooth for them both.
Just weeks later, she said she had someone interested and was taking it to NFA. My follow-​up emails after the conference went unanswered. As did my emails a few months later to check in. Still, I could check the listings on her site.
This year, I noticed that my flute was no longer listed. You can’t sell what you don’t advertise. So, I requested that she send it back to me. She offered to re-​list the instrument [1], but I declined.
So, in 2.5 years, not only did it not sell, but it wasn’t even listed for a portion of that time? Why would a listing come down? Did she rent it to someone without my permission or knowledge? Did she accidentally uncheck the «list’ button in her database? Was she hoping I forgot about it and planning to do something else with it? I’ll never know because no explanation was given.
The Kicker: *I* had to pay the $ 50 shipping to get it back. Even when I said, «I’m having you send it back because it wasn’t listed… and I’m having to pay the shipping,» no one other than me wondered if this was a good business practice. Furthermore, apparently only Mary can handle consignment returns. She was out and I was promised a return call. Once again *I* had to call to get them to follow through. By then, Mary had delegated it to her minion, who did the job once I called, but also hadn’t called me back, as promised. Maybe only Mary could have comped me the shipping, but again, I wouldn’t know since I never spoke with her.
The flute arrived, snug in it’s $ 50 bug. It’s in decent shape considering it’s been sitting for another 2.5 years. All the accessories are there just like I had packed them up.
So, if you want someone to hold your instrument for cheap rent, this is the place to go. If you want to jump through operational hoops on both ends of the transaction, and pay out of pocket for their mistakes, Carolyn’s your girl. BUT, if you want it listed with a chance of selling, try eBay.

Carolyn Nussbaum has been providing repair services, instrument and music sales, and a myriad of flute accessories to the DFW flute community for many years. Her store specializes in flutes, flute repairs, flute music, and recordings featuring the flute. Carolyn is herself a flute-​player, and is quite knowledgeable on the subject.
With the abundance of internet sites out there today, it’s refreshing and delightful to find an old-​fashioned store you can visit in-​person, where you can see, touch, and handle things you might want to purchase instead of just viewing an image on a screen and thinking, «Hmmm… I wonder if this is really what I’m looking for.»
And let me tell you about their magically-​talented repair shop: Carrie can fix just about anything imaginable that could go wrong with your flute. She overhauls my Powell annually, and gives it back in a condition indistinguishable from new. She has rescued my bass flute numerous times from inexplicable and sudden-​onset problems, and rendered it useable once again.
The store is off the beaten trail in Plano, and is a bit difficult to locate without directions or a GPS. They are a little ways north of George Bush Turnpike and just east of Coit Road. The Dallas Morning News printing operations are a good landmark to let you know you’re in the vicinity.
