I get this postcard offering me a free dinner at Charbono’s as long as I can make it through a talk by Elise Roberts. Seems like a great thing, right? Well, sort of. You do get a free dinner, but you have to give them your personal information (phone number and address) and then once you hear what Elise has to say, you get din-​din. But wait, there’s more! Then you also get an insurance agent hounding you the rest of your days for long-​term care insurance or whatever else they can figure out how to sell you.
If you’ve ever had an insurance agent on your tail, you’ll know what I’m talking about. The postcard, however, does not say WHO the company is at all. You get an address and Elise’s name, but that’s it. Why are they being so shady about who they are? Well, they don’t want you to know that it’s AN INSURANCE COMPANY, because most people would rather have their molars pulled out without anesthesia than have to talk to an insurance agent. Be warned, this is not a FREE dinner, it’s torture and then dinner.
