History
Established in 2004.
In September 2004, Shady Side Academy celebrated the official opening of The Hillman Center for Performing Arts with an inaugural performance in the Richard E. Rauh Theater. Beginning in 2005, the Hillman Performing Arts Series, which featured professional performances from showcasing local and global artists, commenced to great acclaim. In 2008, the Hillman also began exhibiting art in its lobbies.
Music, theater, magic, dance, film, lectures and more are available in the Hillman, almost every week throughout the year. Community members and students also present their work on the Rauh stage.
Meet the Manager
Sarah York R.
Manager
Sarah York Rubin, Executive Director of The Hillman Center, puts her international arts and production background to use with the Hillman programming. Sarah’s past endeavors: founding the Washington DC Indie Music Festival, recording voiceovers for MTV and Comedy Central, developing and hosting syndicated radio talk shows, teaching at the University of Michigan and Wellesley College, consulting for an international firm, writing and editing wall scripts for the Warhol museum and finishing a media Fulbright in Hong Kong.
Her current focus is on integrating arts into the community through outreach at libraries, museums and community centers.
