We are a full service design and production studio offering many services and unique products.

What We Do

We create incredible custom designed jewelry. Our specialty is custom bridal. Including engagement rings, wedding bands and hard to find items.

As a designer I share your vision, I do not impose my vision on you.

Your satisfaction is what really counts.

We also offer expert repair and appraisal services. We specialize in work that others turn down or can’t seem to accomplish the desired results.

No job is to complicated or beyond our capabilities.

History

As an independent designer and technologist for the past twenty years working with manufacturers and private clients worldwide I jumped at the opportunity to join forces with Ronald McNeish and The Collection.

Ronald F. McNeish opened The Collection nearly 50 years ago in Shadyside. His clients know him for impeccable quality and careful attention. Today The Collection is located at the corner of Walnut St. and Filbert St. in Shadyside. Recently, exciting changes have taken place to The Collection; new artists, new techniques and technologies, ensuring that even the most discriminating client can find a unique piece in our gallery showroom to treasure. Paul B.

Business Owner

Paul is a designer, goldsmith, and technologist. Though trained in a traditional Art-​Design school setting, he has always had a passion for technology. Being at the forefront of new designing technology remains a goal of his to this day. Paul received a BFA in Jewelry Design and Manufacturing Designations from The Gemological Institute of America, with certificates in Gem Identification, diamond grading, and colored stone grading. As a designer, he shares your vision, and will never impose his own vision onto you.

I have used Paul Michael Designs on a number of occasions, and have been perfectly satisfied each time. From re-​sizing an intricate wedding wand to the re-​design of an engagement ring setting. Paul’s extreme attention to detail and creativity are what sets him apart. Additionally, when dealing with a jeweler who is handling your jewelry of either high dollar value, and or high sentimental value, you place a lot of trust in that individual. I’ve found Paul Michael Jewelry to have the ethics to make trust easy.

So glad I found this shop and got to know Paul personally. Everything he does is so cool and so fun. Cheri and I are kind of geeky love the sci-​fi stuff we have purchased from Paul. She gets compliments ALL the time. The jewelry is well made — even the backs and insides are perfectly polished. Our first purchase was online and it was very assuring that Paul answered all our questions and updated us on the progress as the piece was made. Considering how busy Paul is that meant a lot.

I first discovered Paul’s work through a web article that featured his infamous R2-​D2 engagement ring and I knew that when the time was right, I would inquire about having one made for my future wife.
Needless to say, I am overjoyed and could not be happier with the result of our wedding bands/​engagement ring. From day one, Paul was an absolute delight to work with and you can tell that he really cares for his customers. Paul listened to my suggestions and helped meld the perfect blend of beauty and function in an engagement ring that gets praises on the daily.

My father passed in November of 2012. I was looking for a special gift for my sister to remind her of Dad. Paul worked with me to design a custom pendant with dad’s thumbprint on it that absolutely blew us away. His work was exactly what we were looking for, but couldn’t adequately describe to other designers. I would not hesitate to work with him again on other custom pieces.

Customized jewelry and amazing service.
I came to Paul Michael in search of a unique Valentine’s Day present. I was very specific about what I was looking for in terms of style, material, and price range. It didn’t take long for me to find exactly what I was looking for. Paul gave me plenty of personal attention and even went into detail about the process he used to design and create my ring. He made me feel comfortable about my budget and didn’t pressure me to exceed it.

I recently went to Paul for an engagement ring, and it couldn’t have been a more pleasant experience! He took our ideas and molded them into reality… he made what i was dreading into a fun, creative experience! He was super flexible as far as making himself available for questions and concerns and the drafting/​design process… a consummate professional and artist! Paul’s design are on the cutting edge of fit, function and aesthetics. You’ll be hard pressed to find an artist and jeweler of the same caliber in this area. so if your bored with the jewlery box stores that are becoming the norm and looking for a piece that is «you» get dahn to Shadyside and see Paul! I highly recommend and ill be coming back!

I recently commissioned three rings from Kerry Cohagen and was very pleased with the outcome. The rings in question were an engagement and two wedding rings, very important. Kerry listened to what we liked in terms of design and worked with us to fashion something unique and distinctly ‘us’. He used the idea of a mobius strip to create an interlocking engagement and wedding ring set for my sweetie and the result was elegant, organic, and truely a one of a kind. My ring was simpler but elegant as well.
We were so happy that he was willing to melt down old scrap gold and jewelry for us (including a few gold teeth) to form the jewelry as we wanted to minimize our impact on gold mining. We came away with an amazing product for a really really reasonable price and couldn’t be happier. I would highly recommend these guys for any project. They are artists of the highest caliber and really listen to the customer.
