Specialties
Authentic Neapolitan pizza, artisan gelato, and an inviting atmosphere are just a small part of what helps create your experience at Mercurio’s Gelato and Pizza in Pittsburgh, PA. It’s not your standard pizza shop; in fact, this isn’t a «pizza shop» at all.
Anna and Michael Mercurio, a brother and sister duo, started Mercurio’s in 2012 with the intent of bringing genuine Italian pizza and dining to the community in Shadyside. Michael, who is a certified Neapolitan pizza maker by the Italian government, is the head chef and pizza maker. Anna brings her heritage to the table by helping create many of the delicious menu items.
In addition, Mercurio’s operates as a full service ice cream shop, offering gelato, milkshakes, sundaes, floats, and smoothies.
History
Established in 1999.
A trip to Italy… a visit to a popular custard stand… a riverfront park built in their hometown… all of these combined events brought about Rick and Linda Mercurio’s conception of their gelateria, Mulberry Street Creamery in Kittanning, Pennsylvania.
The publicity from our national and local awards began to drive Pittsburghers to Kittanning for their gelato fix. As the years passed, the majority of Mulberry Street Creamery’s customers were making the trip from the city. The Mercurio family recognized these committed gelato addicts and decided to bring the product to them. In the spring of 2005, Mulberry Street Creamery moved its retail location to Pittsburgh, PA in Shadyside where it is known as Mercurio’s Mulberry Creamery. Mercurio’s Mulberry Creamery is the gelateria that most customers have come to know and love. All gelato is still made fresh daily at the Mulberry Street Creamery in Kittanning and then delivered to the Shadyside store.
