Learn2Glide specializes in teaching people how to hang glide all the way from never seeing a glider to being certified to fly one solo almost anywhere in the country. Whether you are just interested in giving the sport a try to see what it’s about or want to come to multiple lessons and getting certified, Learn2Glide is the school for you! The best part is, we’re located right outside of Pittsburgh and do all our training within a 1 hour drive of downtown.

History

Established in 2013.

Matt Philips, the owner and instructor for Learn2Glide, began his training as a student in 2010 while he was a student at the University of Cincinnati. Once he tried it, he knew he was hooked. He spent entire weekends at the flight park learning as much as he could and passed the final test and check flights within a couple months. He then spent almost every weekend from then on at launch sites and flight parks across the eastern US, filling up his log book with hours of air time and learning about different methods of training and flying until he could finally do the training, tests, seminars, etc to obtain his Basic Instructor rating.

He then began teaching a few college friends in his free time, which developed into the UC Hang Gliding and Paragliding Club shortly before he graduated and moved to Pittsburgh. After working full-​time for about six months and training on the weekends, he decided to make Learn2Glide a registered business and full-​time operation.
