I went to Joe’s in Penn Hills for a sweet treat after my hubby’s softball game tonight. I ordered the chocolate peanut butter ice cream. Though descent, I would have loved a bit more peanut butter running throughout the ice cream. Sadly, there isn’t a very good place to sit down and hang out with friends after ordering ice cream. Essentially, you’re just hanging out in a parking lot. The best part about Joe’s was the price! My husband and I both got dessert for under $ 5.

Bada bing smoothie with strawberry mixed in. this is absolutely my favorite treat here. THe ice has great flavor and I always like to customize my ice with different toppings. I’ll get a peach ice with raspberries mixed in or a mango ice with a banana. My dad really got me hooked on this place and the owner Jim is such a nice guy and great to talk to. He really cares about his business and the customers. On Wednesdays from 4 to 9 it’s doggie days. You bring your dog in for a free ice cream cone and a biscuit. MMH! My pup really loves it! Plus it gets her out the house and around other dogs. They serve more than just ice too. They serve hard ice cream as well as soft serve with several topping choices along with mllkshakes, sundaes and fun toppings like cherry and blue raspberry candy shell and peanut butter crunch coat. I always like to try some new weird concoctions with different ingredients mixed in and they always seem to turn out great. One day Jim will put one of my desserts on the window :)

I grew up with soft-serve ice cream so rather prefer it over fancy-schmancy ice cream parlors on the normal days, saving the fancier ones for special days. I’ve just gotten the brownie sundae with hot fudge, loving it so much that I keep ordering it. Best combination for me is with whipped cream and peanuts added. Quite satisfying on a hot day from a small, clean establishment with friendly, polite service.
