A wonderful resource for the Homewood community, this is an inviting building with a dedicated staff. I attended a special African American Read-In here last week, and it was great to see young and old step up to read poetry, prose, plays and children’s books. I’ve met many of the staff and they have been very friendly and helpful. Once I brought my Venture Outdoors group through the building and one of the Librarians gave a wonderful impromptu tour. Their children’s collection is quite strong. They have lots of programming, such as story-time, computer instruction, and there are computers that the patrons are free to use. There is a really fine auditorium that seats 300 hosts musical concerts and plays. There is an African-American collection contains more than 12,000 materials on African and African-American culture. Make sure you look up at the ceiling, there are some stunning skylights. Also of note, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood featured this library on several of the shows.
