Description

History

Established in 1929.

Since its founding in 1929, Carlow University has given students the knowledge, insight, tools, and experience to become leaders for the common good. Carlow is a university with more than 2,300 students (1,400 undergraduate and 900 graduate) and 500 faculty and staff.

Carlow University – formerly Mount Mercy College – was founded by the Sisters of Mercy to fulfill the city’s need in providing a baccalaureate education to Catholic women. Today, Carlow engages its diverse academic community in a process of life-long learning, scholarship, and research. The University is dedicated to providing students with a learner-centered education, focusing on the individual.

Our secluded 14-acre campus is situated in the heart of Pittsburgh in the Oakland neighborhood – just steps from the city’s best museums, medical institutions, restaurants, churches, and parks.
