History

Established in 1929.

In 1991, after working for a local law firm, Bill Phalen reopened his father’s law practice. The practice was originally started by Lawrence Walker in 1929. His father Wilbert W. Phalen joined Lawrence’s practice in 1954 and practiced until his untimely death in 1984.

For 25 years, Bill Phalen has been representing families and workers whose lives have been devastated by work place injuries, reckless drivers and the negligence of others. When tragedy needlessly strikes — because of the irresponsible behavior of an employer, corporation or an insurance company — Bill Phalen is an advocate for the people, always representing David in the fight against Goliath. Bill’s strong convictions have led to successful cases at the Court of Appeals and Kansas Supreme Court.

Most recently, Bill was lead attorney in the Bergstrom v. Spears Manufacturing case which overturned 17 years of case law previously unfavorable to injured workers. Bill is a past speaker at the annual Kansas Department of Labor, Kansas Workers’ Compensation Seminar, speaking recently in 2010 regarding the claimant’s perspective of independent medical examinations. He is a member of the Kansas Association for Justice, sitting on the work comp section, Board of Governors and Eagles Membership
