Sandcastle Inn

The location is great! This is why am rating it a 3 stars. It’s Right In front of the beach and walking distance from restaurants or shopping. Now the rooms are ok, what I Hated was the ac or heating vents either from bathroom or room vents would bring in the smoke from people smoking weed and cigarettes from other surrounding rooms. I have two teenagers with me and so I Wouldn’t recommend staying here, I will try other hotels when visiting Pismo Beach. If only management can try to fix this problem, I doubt it though

For Pismo, this is a pretty cool place and a return visit will be coming.

Since not many places open for breakfast close by, I would have enjoyed a better breakfast… but made up for it with a short walk for warm cinnamon rolls… (yea you know the place!)

Was already nice but then got an unexpected upgrade from the manager and front desk staff. Ran into the manager by accident and he was very interested in how our stay was going. When we asked the lady at the front desk about moving to the 3^rd floor she arranged it for the following night. Room was much bigger with a fireplace and even better views! You get location and great views. Pay the extra for the ocean view! Also, walk to downtown and eat at Giuseppe’s. Amazing!

Giving this place all the stars because everything was perfect. I stayed in the ocean front king room cozy and perfect for 3 people. The guest service was friendly and always available. Check in at 4 but we requested for a early check in and got here around 2. They offer free breakfast and wifi. You make your own waffle and they have a cool toaster for bagel and English muffins. We’re minutes from the pier and there are restaurant all around within parking distant. We basically park our car at the inn and walk everywhere which work out since there was not a lot of street parking. I definitely recommend this place if you are going to visit Pismo beach!

The only really good thing about this place is the location. The rooms are mediocre and get extremely hot for being right next to the beach. The bathroom in our suit was tiny. The free breakfast is one of the worst I’ve ever seen. I was here for Memorial Day weekend and their was a legit hour line for the waffle maker because there was only one. The rest of the food was cold and disgusting. A lot of money per night for a not so great hotel. At least Pismo Beach as a town was fun

Nice hotel on the beach! Got it for a good price for 2 nights and its within walking distance to everything it has breakfest in the morrning and a nice hot tub outside veiwing the beach. That said it is a simple hotel nothing to crazy but its nice and clean and staff are nice and polite.

If I could rate this place negative stars, I would. Read the «not recommended» reviews at the bottom of the page. Just had the worse hotel experience of my life at Sandcastle Inn. First off, I’m seven months pregnant and I had my 3 year old daughter and husband with me. We paid almost $ 700 for two nights so we could be close to the beach. We were put in the «murder» room, the only room that was not locked behind key access points. The stairs walked right up to the door and anyone could have walked in off the street. We were told the hotel had a strict nonsmoking policy, which I needed because I was very pregnant. On the second night, we got back from dinner at 8:30pm and smelled marijuana in our room. We thought someone had been smoking weed in the stairwell and since no one was there anymore, we let it go. But then at 10pm, the smell of weed completely filled our room and after searching for the origin, we realized it was coming from our vent. We called the front desk and reached Marissa, who said she would invesigate and if it was from the vent, someone was smoking in their bathroom and the smoke was going right into the vents. So if you know that, then obviously its happened before. 10 mins later, she said she called her assistant manager Christine, who by the way has the WORST customer service skills on the planet. They tell us that they were not going to investigate further and we had to prove it. Well hell, come on into the darn room. Poor Marissa didn’t even come in the room because she was assaulted with the smell as soon as we opened the door. And this was 20 mins after we had the sliding door open to air out the room. Plus, the next door neighbors were smoking cigarettes on their balcony too so it was weed if the door was closed and cigarettes if it was open. Absolutely ridiculous. After all of this, they tell me that we could either leave, aka sleep in our car because every hotel room within a 20 mile radius was full (we checked) or «deal with it» and they’d comp us $ 75 because they didnt have any other rooms. $ 75 F’ing dollars when I paid almost $ 700 for the room. I told her that I understand things come up but these people were obviously breaking hotel policy, not to mention the LAW, so if they could just kindly make a phone call to each of the rooms next to us to remind them of the no smoking policy so we wouldn’t have to deal with getting high on our vacation. No harm to them. They said no. So it’s more important that people breaking hotel policy and the law not be disturbed for 30 seconds than the health and well being of a three year old child and a 7 month pregnant woman? She didn’t even respond to that. What’s the point of having a no smoking policy if it’s not enforced at all. We had no choice, I was not going to make my family sleep in our car. So we aired out the room and sat on the balcony until it stopped smelling so bad and then put my sleeping toddler to bed around midnight praying the neighbors wouldn’t start smoking weed again. In the morning I went down to speak with Christine, the assistant manager. I told her I was the lady who had to deal with the marijuana smoke all night and she says to me «yes, and we credited you $ 75». Like that fixed everything. Then she goes on this, «you should have told us earlier» crap. I’m sorry, I don’t decide when my neighbors will start smoking weed. They didn’t help us find another hotel. They could have easily made 2 – 3 calls to other hotels, even if they were not their partner hotels. They could have just spent 2 minutes calling our neighbors and just let them know they received a complaint and are not accusing anyone but just reminding everyone of the no smoking policy. They could have kept a room free for just this type of thing if they didn’t have protocol to deal with it. But no, this crazy lady tells me they did «everything they could» and «$ 75 was what they could do.» Obviously not. I would have expected to at least been comp’d for that night. I wasn’t even asking for all of my money back. I asked to speak to the general manager and this lady actually tells me I can come back on Monday to speak to him. I almost decked her right then and there. Never again. Christine needs to be fired for willingly allowing people to violate hotel policy as well as state and federal laws. Even if they were smoking medical marijuana, the hotel is right next to a children’s playground/​rec area and you are not allowed to smoke weed within 1000 feet of a recreation area. From the looks of these reviews, it’s not the first complaint about her. I, myself, am a business owner and I would never, ever allow my employees to treat customers like that.

What a romantic evening at Pismo Beach! We checked into the Inn during the late afternoon and took the opportunity to walk from our room out on the pier and around the beach community of Pismo. The best part of the stay of course, was watching the sunset in the evening from our personal patio on the beach with a glass of wine and cut up fruit and cheese from the market nearby. The sound of the waves, the slow sinking of the sun over the ocean, the birds in the background, wow!
There was something for everyone during the continental breakfast, from a yogurt/​fruit/​granola parfait to waffles, cereal and toast. The staff was friendly and helpful and there was easy parking for all vehicles. The room was well appointed and clean. Great place to spend the night!

very run of the mill place, but it is nice that it is located on the beach so you can enjoy the view from their balcony. When we went the Jacuzzi was under maintenance which was annoying. The rooms are standard with a television and a bathroom which is not something to really write home about. I did however appreciate that the pillows were soft and the bedding was comfortable. As for the breakfast they have a generic do-​it-​yourself waffle maker, drip coffee, bagels, fruits, and hard boiled egg. Overall, an A-​OK experience.

We had a really nice stay here recently. The views are just beautiful. Rooms are comfy and the staff was very helpful.

The hotel is super nice and clean. Beds are super comfortable and we even got an ocean view room when we paid for a non view king room. The only problem I had with this hotel was when we tried to check in the woman at the registration desk was kind of rude with us. Me and my fiancé are 19&20 but the lady at the desk said we needed somebody over 21 to check in. I have never heard of this before. Plus that is nowhere stated on the online website. So she made us wait there while she called her manager to see if she could check us in. I honestly think she was just giving us a hard time, because the website never asked for our ages when we were putting our information in. Throughout our visit I felt them watching us like as if we were going to steal or try and throw a party. Which made us uncomfortable. Besides that it was nice and relaxing.

Location Location Location. Went to college in SLO early 90’s and this place was here. yes it would be nice if the rooms were updated, yes there is no AC, yes it has a small hot tub and no pool but it is right on the beach and within crawling distance of the pier and all of the restaurants/​bars/​shops. Hot tub was broken one day… wife & kids not happy. staff gave us a bottle of wine. hot tub fixed next day, problem solved. Nice patio with fire pit on 3^rd floor. Great breakfast in the morning. Get there at 7am before rush. To drown out «hotel noise» there is a fan in the corner which worked well at night. Staff very friendly. Will be back. Kids loved it.

Nice cont. breakfast in lobby, extra friendly staff, ²⁴⁄₇ coffee/​tea, cookies in the afternoon.
Clean rooms if not small, LOCATION CANNOT BE BEAT!
That said, down a star as the mattresses have seen better days.
Pushing $ 300 a night including tax, for oceanfront off season weekend rates.
Buy some new beds!

You want a hotel right on the beach with great views and breakfast in the morning? This is the place to be. The rooms aren’t fancy but they’re clean, they’re comfortable and the patio has a great view.
Easy walk to downtown restaurants and shops.
For breakfast you get the usual continental choices as well as fresh do-​it yourself waffles.
The staff is accommodating and friendly.
We had a problem with the room at one point and engineering couldn’t solve it so they moved us to another room.
Free and fast wi-​fi is big for us. Awesome.

UK/​US: Grateful for our short spontanous stay in a queenroom with ocean/​pier view. We really appreciated the balcony from where we could watch the sunset and observe a few whales and dolphins. Clean establishment, nice service, free breakfast, wifi and parking, on the beach… perfect!

Check-​in with guest services was quick & easy. Staff was friendly & welcoming with their beautiful smiles. We’re offered fresh baked chocolate chip cookies. Paid the extra for the Oceanfront and you won’t be disappointed. It’s a recommendation. You can hear the sound of the waves thrashing and the feel the wonderful breeze of ocean water from your comfortable, spacious, & updated bedroom. You can watch the sunset and sunrise from your private porch as the lights from the pier dims at nighttime. My husband also received a personal birthday card. What more can we ask for? Complimentary breakfast are served hot. Yes, the memories are precious!!!

On our recent trip to California, we had an overnight in Pismo Beach. We chose The Sand Castle Inn. The hotel was located right on the beach and the staff was very nice.
The room was clean and spacious and the bathroom was pretty standard. I did enjoy the complementary Philosophy products. (I judge hotels based on their toiletries!)
A nice feature to the hotel is that they have wine or beer on the premises for purchase. We had already bought a bottle of wine from a winery tour earlier, so we had that while sitting in the area off of their lobby. There was a fireplace, so we sipped our wine and enjoyed the fireplace and the free wifi.
The free continental breakfast the next morning was very good. They had hard boiled eggs, cereal, yogurt, pastries and a make your own waffle station. I had oatmeal with brown sugar and raisins and yogurt with fruit on the bottom. The yogurt staff put together, not a little plastic store bought container. It was in a jar with a generous serving of a fruity jam on the bottom and plain yogurt on top. It was excellent.
We were definitely pleased with our stay at Sandcastle Inn — great staff and a great location.

For our weekend trip to Pismo Beach and San Luis Obispo, Sandcastle Inn was ideal. The location is perhaps the best part of the hotel as you are mere steps away from the beach. Better yet, you’re only a couple minutes walking distance to some of Pismo Beach’s best and most well-​known restaurants. One of them is Splash Café with their famous clam chowder. Not to mention smaller spots like «Chipwrecked» that serve great sandwiches and interesting potato chip dishes. This is a great area near the piers and a wonderful place to take advantage of their various patios to soak up the sun and ocean breeze. I personally enjoyed their 3^rd floor outdoor balcony with a fireplace.
The rooms themselves were extremely clean and had a nice beach-​house feel. It is a little older (for example the TV and furniture) in style but the bed was comfortable and there was plenty of space in our room as well.
Other things to take note of is that their complimentary breakfast is actually not bad at all. It gave us everything we needed to fuel up for a trip into San Luis Obispo. You’ll find bagels, parfaits, eggs, waffles from a Do-​It-​Yourself waffle maker, juices, and even Coffee Bean coffee.
They also have a small jacuzzi on the 1^st floor at the outdoor dining area. That way you can have waffles in a hot tub if that is your thing.
As a tip you’ll want to make sure you know your license number before you check in so that they can give you a temporary parking permit for the duration of your stay. You can munch on their free cookies while you give them your info too.
Also kind of hidden away is the fact they rent out Surreys and bikes for a fee. They didn’t look in the best condition but I guess when in Pismo, do as the Pismoans do and ride your bike along the beach.
Overall I enjoyed my stay and I would stay here again.
Room Tip: You’ll want a room on the 3^rd floor facing the ocean otherwise you’ll get the dreaded parking lot view.

I’ve never been to Pismo Beach before, and staying at Sandcastle Inn was a good first experience!
When I saw the outside of the hotel, I thought it would be like a Motel 6 or something, since the façade of the place is really dull, and lacking color. There is a small parking area for customers and are big enough for SUVs although it says compact. Only 1 parking spot is allotted per room, but street parking is available.
The place itself is not too big, with 3 floors, but the view is awesome! The beach was just a few steps outside of the hotel and very close to the pier. I came with my in laws, and they got a beach view room, with 2 king size beds. It’s a bit smaller than me and my husband’s room because it has 2 beds, but the view is what you really pay for. There are restaurants nearby, but If you want nicer ones, Downtown SLO is around 15 – 20 minutes away, so not too bad!
The staff were very friendly, but not so helpful. When I asked for extra toiletries, they told me to go downstairs to come and get it in the front lobby, probably because they don’t have enough people. At the very least, they were nice enough to say it, plus it was a small hotel anyway.
They have complimentary breakfast, but do come as soon as they start serving, otherwise you’ll be battling with the other customers who thought they were smart to come around 9AM «when everybody is done eating». NOPE, the crowd comes at 9AM, so come early or towards the end. They refill the breakfast stations, so don’t worry about running out of food.
I had a wonderful experience at this place! I look forward to staying in this hotel the next time we come visit!
