My husband and I like to grab sandwiches from here on our way up to spend time in the mountains. The only negative is the general appearance of the place(& some of the characters that it attracts) but the food in the deli is really good and the employees are very nice.

Last Sunday, Gayle and I drove back from Genoa via Highway 88 instead of over the Kingsbury Grade and onwards to Highway 50. The main reason was to avoid the Sacramento — Fairfield traffic, but we were also looking forward to a scenic drive through the Hope Valley, past Kirkwood, and down to Jackson. If we had more time, would probably would have stopped at Grover Hot Springs for a nice soak. The closer we got to Jackson, the hungrier we became. Since we already had one similar«crabby» driving experience on the way up, I unilaterally decided to turn into the first place that looked halfway decent. And that’s how we became acquainted with the Red Corral Mini Mart. Perhaps if I were more patient or area knowledgeable, I might have picked the nearby Sequoia Drive In or some other fine local establishment. But I’m not complaining. The Red Coral Mini Mart was a pleasant surprise and deserving of a bump to say 3.2 Stars. In addition to the usual selection found at places of this genre, Red Coral has a Deli attached. Their sandwiches were well made, fresh, and very tasty. And as we happily munched away later in the car, we all agreed that this was a well timed and welcome stop.
