Pioneer Inn & Suites

My husband and I wanted a little getaway and saw Pioneer Lodge online. The rating was really good for such an awesome affordable price. We checked in on Thursday and were the ONLY guests in the place. Our room was clean with a larger than usual mini fridge, microwave and wet bar. The king size bed was pillow topped and I slept like a log for the three nights were there.
Our room was on the end of the motel and had floor to ceiling windows on one side and sliding glass doors on the other overlooking the pool and spa and a beautiful meadow.
The staff, Diane and Stacey were awesome. Even the caretaker was friendly and helpful. We wanted to jacuzzi early in the AM and they were kind enough to come out and open it up even though the hours were not until an hour later.
For $ 75 a night, yes this isn’t the brand new flashy state of the art property, but, it was clean, comfortable, pleasant and we had a fabulous time at Pioneer Lodge. Thank you to the staff.

Very affordable and clean motel. We had a few issues upon arrival (needed more towels and pillows) that were handled promptly by the front desk. The place is dated and reminds us of our grand parents but was clean. The appliances all work well and the room is spacious compared to most rooms with two queens in them. Was a great place for an overnight stay on our snow adventure.

This is a great place to stay when doing a weekend at Kirkwood. It’s 45 mins away, but you have a lot better options for eating in Pioneer or nearby Pine Grove than on the mountain. The rooms were clean and well kept. There was a microwave, fridge, and coffee pot with decent coffee. There was a pool and hot tub outside that were very inviting. I don’t usually pack a bathing suit for a ski trip — next time, when staying here, I will!

My annual riding trip spot to hang out. Rooms are well kept, staff was great and an ideal location to Pipi valley and Bear River riding areas, and OHV dream just after snow melt! The place is a little run down, thin walls and floors, but it has character. Pool and Hot tub are awesome after a day of riding too.
Rooms are equipped with everything you need. Coffee maker, mini Fridge, microwave, AC and nice decks for drinking a cold one.
Cons: No cell service for most carriers. Lucky to get one bar if any. This is actually a «Pro» for me. I’m on vacation and don’t want to be bothered by work.
Good little bar across the parking lot for pub grub and beers too.

Ok so this resort is re-​opening! Nestled in the pines just a short drive to Kirkwood, Lake Tahoe, Silver Lake and Mace Meadows Golf Course. Very clean rooms, TV, Coffeemaker, Mini Fridge, and Microwave.

Ok, do not look at past reviews and think this is a nice hotel. My guess is they changed ownership and have let this place get run down. The pool has algae. The grounds and parking lot needs cleaning and weeds pulled. Room 101 with the kitchenette— lights burned out in the kitchen, the florescent lights in the bathroom burned out, the cover for the lights is broken behind the tv.
Overall, everything needs a good wholesome, walls and outdoor equipment. The main sign is broken out.
This place needs new management. Pictures after trip is over.

so writing this review i would normally give a 3 star, however with the surrounding availability i want to note it’s not bad.
when looking for a place in the area for snow you need to realize that there isn’t much available unless you want to pay resort prices. for non-​resort prices this place is a good spot. we paid $ 80 a night (weekend of St. Patty’s). Another thing to consider are that these places are older and that you have people coming in and out with snow gear… so understand that as well. :)
1. NO CELL SERVICE — this is not the hotels fault, but a cell tower issue. closest cell phone access is pretty much Jackson
2. WIFI — for apple we got it outside of the room, but once in the room we couldn’t. this might be different for non-​apple but i’m not sure… they connect on different servers.
3. GUEST SERVICE: very nice, i had a few q’s for her and she never seemed bothered.
4. ROOM: we stayed in room 106.
— two doubles and they were pretty comfy. linens are out dated, but remember where you are.
— TV is also older, so if you have kids, bring something to entertain them other than computer in case the internet isn’t working. :)
— There is a microwave and small fridge! Small coffee pot. Our room provided styrophome cups (4) and a small bag of coffee stuff.
— there were TWO sinks! I’m a girl so that’s pretty awesome lol. One outside the bathroom and one inside witht he toilet and tub.
— The bathroom soaps seemed to be missing a few things, but I tend to bring my own anyway. There was a blow dryer there though.
— My mom wasn’t a fan of the blinds for the deck because they don’t close to well… and she was worried about privacy. The back decks are open and just seperated with side wall, nothing to keep them fully private. This was kinda creepy cause the night we stayed there was a guy making awkward sounds… but again, not the hotels fault.
Overall, it’s a great price for a snow stop… not something I would normally stay in if in a main city, but you need to be aware of whats available in the area. :) I’m not paying $ 200 for a one night stay, i’d rather spend my money on other stuff. lol

It is a Mom & Pop place. Very clean but a few quirks like window screens that are falling off. It is not a 5 star hotel but the price is right. The «marbel bathrooms» is a plastic imitation bathtub surround but it is super clean. Walt is right, the owner and staff are very friendly and helpful.
I stayed in the Kitchen unit which is closer to the highway. If you can do without the Kitchen ask for a room overlooking the pool (which is the nicest part of the place). It should be quieter. I am choosing to stay in the Kitchen unit again because it is a full size kitchen and I prefer to cook versus go out to eat. We are doing a multi week project up there. It is pretty well set with dishes and pots and pans although it would be nice to have a big mixing bowl and a bigger pot for pasta. It has a back patio which is perfect for running my little travel grill or you can do that on the pool deck. There is a BBQ back there too which I assume you can use.
Overall I like the place better than most standard business hotel type properties (like BW or Holiday Inn Express).

Very nice rooms. This hotel was a safe haven for us in the middle of a snow storm. We stopped on our way to Kirkwood and were pleasantly surprised at the clean rooms and comfortable beds. Great prices too!

I think outdoorsy Bay Area folks would love to know about this place. Took the kids to Iron Mountain Sno-​Park for the day. Pioneer Resort is about 20 m away from there and 45 m from Kirkwood on Route 88.
Pioneer was friendly, clean and very affordable.
I was delighted with their outdoor hot tub after the day in the snow. When the sun went down the frogs began to croak in the creek behind the hotel.
(There is also an attractive pool. We visited in January and the pool is closed for the winter.)
The place was simple and clean. I liked it didn’t have any cheezy art on the walls. Our room had a TV, iPhone dock, fridge, microwave and a coffee maker. There was also a small private patio right outside. Looks like all the rooms have their own patio.
Outdoor adventurers – this seems like the perfect place.

You may get lost coming here, watch out for that! Pioneer resort popped up on the right as I was heading east, about 0.7 miles before my Garmin said it would.

For only $ 87 a night, we stayed in their only room that’s a suite — meaning small kitchen (stocked well with plates, cups, forks, etc., electric stove, oven, microwave, full sized fridge/​freezer, coffee maker), peninsula with some bar seating, cable TV, free wi-​fi (spotty to no cellular reception, so this was very important), and it was *clean*. Being paranoid after reading many reports about bed bugs in hotels, the first thing I did was take apart the bed. Not only did I not find any bugs, but found that it was clean and there was a memory foam liner! Very comfortable. The couch was also a sleeper, so you could probably fit at least two more people in that room or more — depending how good of friends you are.
We did not try out the pool or the hot tub, but could see it from the Italian restaurant next door that served EXCELLENT pizza.
Some minuses are that it can be a bit noisy since it’s close to the road, and related to that is that rooms are accessed right off the parking lot, so you do hear people coming and going.
So why five stars? The proprietor is very nice (polite, easy conversation, thankful — which goes a *long* way with me, since I all too often pay people for goods or services and in response they’re surprisingly ungrateful and/​or rude), and it was easy to book online. I did not expect luxury accommodations and they were indeed basic, but for that much space at that price, I’d happily send other Unilocalers there, as I know where I’ll be staying the next time I’m in Pioneer.
ps. If you want the kitchenette room, the manager said to book about a month in advance. They have a AAA discount, but they had a better deal when we booked.

Stayed here 2 nights to bring my kids to the snow.
Cost about 60 bucks a night.
Staff was friendly and accommodating when I needed some silverware.
Beds were super soft almost like a water bed (little to soft for me)
TV, Coffeemaker, Mini Fridge, and microwave in every unit. (Kick Ass)
Bar across the street with a basic menu and cheap beer. I didn’t go over there cuz I was with my kids but it seemed like a decent place to kill time and get drunk.
There is also an Italian restaurant adjacent to the hotel but I checked out the paper menu and could tell right off the bat that this was another knock off Italian joint no doubt owned by people that have no Italian heritage. Didn’t waste my time.
I would totally stay here again, this was a great deal and other hotels with less amenities in the area go for 3 times the price.
