This place, though it is big inside, was a disappointment. I got the charbroiled beef and it was very dry and over garnished. I had that over broken rice and it made my mouth and throat very dry. The service wasn’t too great either for a bigger Asian restaurant and the food wasn’t too great to rave about. We came here on a whim and left disappointed and still hungry. Probably won’t be back here until 2017.

After my parents running errands with my parents, we decided that we wanted some Vietnamese comfort food and family style so we went to Loon Fong. I am attempting to go on a low carb diet(which is the hardest thing ever!!) so we decided to pick some dishes that you can eat without rice. We started with the salt and pepper shrimp which had decent seasoning but was not crispy at all and was more soggy. Next we ordered«shaken» beef, which means you have to shake the skillet. It was made perfectly but was a little too salty for my liking. Next up was roasted quail, which was really good with good seasoning. Lastly, we had Vietnamese style sweet and sour soup(canh cua) with fish, okra, and lots of other vegetables. This one was one of the best canh cua I have had in the area. It had the right amount of sourness and the fish was cooked perfectly. If you are looking for good family style Vietnamese good, you should definitely check this place out!

first off the genre of food is wrong it’s Vietnamese and Chinese. we went got the viet food. my parents have been going here for a while and never try anything but the lau, and last night the whole family went. we had a large lau for the 5 of us, the one with shrimp, 2 pots of hot tea, each of us got a DELICIOUS fresh spring roll, and we ordered a green papaya salad. you HAVE to order that salad. everything in this restaurant is fresh tasting. they put a lot of greens in everything that add perfect flavor. lau is a hot pot soup that you put either rice or noodles at the bottom of your bowl, and scoop in the broth and vegetables. my parents told me the place was normally empty, but it had quite a few patrons when we went. the woman who served us, who I think is the owner, was extremely friendly and attentive. the food came out quickly. we all left with very round, full bellies, and leftovers! I will definitely be looking to go to this place for lunch sometime because it’s pretty cheap!

The only reason I went to this place tonight was because I had a ‘Buy One Entrée, Get One Free’ coupon, which I got from the Enjoy The City coupon book. It clearly stated the expiration date of 12/31/2014, and was good for any entrée(up to $ 25.00 value). After my girlfriend and I ate our Wonton Soup, and an entrée each($ 16.95 a piece), it came time to pay the bill, at which point I presented my coupon. The waitress told me they«don’t accept it anymore». She gave me some story about how they’ve tried to contact the coupon book, and get their coupon removed, with no success. Why is that MY problem? I ended up paying the full check, even though in hindsight, I should have refused to pay for the 2nd entrée. This is an extremely bad business practice, and I will NEVER return to Loon Fong. To top it all off, my card was charged twice. Looks like I will be calling them tomorrow, and keeping my fingers crossed for some sort of resolution.

First time here with my bf and his family. They are Cambodian, so I figured they would know where to get great Vietnamese food. First impression from the outside, not so great. Very rundown looking. Inside, yikes the carpet was filthy. Couldn’t believe a restaurant not only had carpet, but yikes. Bathroom floor was so sticky i cleaned off my shoes when I walked into hall. So by now you can understand I was very hesitant to eat here. Apparently my dining companions frequent this place enough that everyone knew them by name. I let them order all the food, family style, so I could try a lot of things. We started with some type of soup filled with veggies, shrimp and pineapple. Apparently this one is a big deal to make. Takes hours to cook. The broth was outstanding. I could have had a gallon of this, it was so light and full of flavor. The other steak and chicken dishes were also quite tasty. Can’t for the life of me begin to remember the names of the dishes, but it was all quite yummy. I also had an iced French drip coffee with condensed milk that was so insanely delicious and potent that it put starbucks to shame! As for other people complaining about service, I don’t know, maybe it was because my dinner companions were regulars that we received great service. But I was happy with the food. They really need to work on cleaning the place up though.

DONOTGOTOTHISPLACE. Let me put it to you this way, I do not write a review unless I’m extremely please or upset with a place. I have been to so many Vietnamese places in Orlando, Tampa, and St. Pete, the food at this place is so-so but everything else is TERRIBLE. The older looking woman with black hair was our waitress. This women RANAFTERUSANDDEMANDEDMORETIPSMONEY. I couldn’t believe what was happening… Go to this place at your own risk, I hope you have better waitress. I am grateful that I was here at least once and learned about this ridiculous behavior so I WILLNEVERGOBACK.

About a year ago, I would have good things to say about this place but as of my last 2 – 3 trips, it’s been nothing but downhill with the quality of their food. And it’s not just me, it shows with their business as I barely see anyone there anymore. I’ve had Vietnamese food for over 5 years now and know a thing or two about authentic Vietnamese food and this place puts it to shame.

As far as Vietnamese food in the Bay Area goes this is one of the top 5 for sure. They are particularly good at the typical wedding/celebration fare. Lobster is somewhat salty tonight, but still pretty good, steak is good, fried rice is good, plenty of generous chunks of pork and shrimp.

We tried to use our coupon from the book and they REFUSED to take it!!! And the owner argued with us about it! We brought the book and the coupon in and they yelled at us… last time for us at this place!

I have lived in some of the the best food cities in the country from Chicago to the South Bay and have had plenty of Vietnamese food. Loon Fong is hands down the best Vietnamese food I have had. The Phở, Egg Drop, Bahn Mi Sandwich and the Stir Fried Beef Tenderloin are the best. What I like most about this place is the consistency of the food, cleanliness and reasonably priced. If you haven’t tried this place please do, it is so worth it.

I had to finally write a review because this place is great! I just wish I lived closer. Other Vietnamese rest. In Tampa are not nearly as good. The Vietnamese egg rolls are entirely worth the trip, but use the fish sauce as your sauce… they come with it. Try some of the drinks: we even tried the sweetened cond. milk w/the egg yolk & soda water — it was really good. I always get the pork bun minus the peanuts, cilantro and mint. The best pork… period!

This is a pretty good Vietnamese place, not known for the Chinese food(it’s average) but the Vietnamese food is really good. Start out with some Vietnamese spring rolls(cold noodles, shrimp, meat, bean sprouts wrapped with rice paper, you dip it in a peanut sauce), I normally get the phở(hot noodle soup with either beef or beef balls), add the lime, bean sprouts, and the hot sauce! Yum! Or on a hot day(which is all the time ;p) I like the cold noodle, I think it’s number 42, cold noodle with BBQ pork and shrimp on top! You can add the sauce that comes with it or you can request the special soy sauce from the kitchen :) Service is a hit or a miss, it’s never crowded in there but the Vietnamese food is terrific!

I was introduced to this restaurant when my girlfriends mother took us here for lunch. I’ve been to Loon Fong a few times prior to this review, but I have not been disappointed so far. It’s a quiet restaurant with your typical Vietnamese and Chinese food at good prices. The soup is delicious and their mussels are also very tasty. The interior is quite large but I never see more than a few customers at a time, and most of the time it seems like they’re all regulars or friends/family — which is a shame because I think this restaurant deserves more customers. Unfortunately, because Loon Fong is along 49th, all of the Viet places on Park Blvd takes it away from the limelight.

I usually won’t hit up a place without a Unilocal review, but figured I’d take one for the team. Plus I was in the mood for Chinese and this place appeared in front of me. Went in on a Tuesday. It was about 1 or 1:30pm — and all of maybe 3 people were having lunch. Lunch specials are super cheap. My sweet & sour chicken with rice was $ 5.95. The rice was white(menu said you have a choice, being an American — I assumed they’d just give me fried… nope). The chicken was just regular fried chicken chunks. About 3 or 4 minutes later the waitress came over with sweet and sour sauce. The food wasn’t anything special. It wasn’t bad. It wasn’t great. It was cheap.
