Dining in the bar is a wonderful experience due to the ambiance of this grand old institution. The meal service in the bar is outstanding. There is a separate bar menu with several offerings. I just had the best Reuben ever. My new favorite place to eat and have drinks.

Great enjoyable atmosphere. Very laid back and relaxing after a long day on the course. Sundays is 2.00 domestics and a free taco bar which was delicious. The staff is friendly and attentive. It was nice to socialize with locals at this gem stone. The history of the Inn is also super interesting.

This restaurant is simply surviving on its history. The only thing that is worth going for is the Pork Chop. The rest of the menu is uninventive and boring. My wife’s steak was poorly cooked. My scallops were tough and over cooked. The bartender did not know how make a Manhattan(you never shake brown whiskey). Our waiter was a wreck and very disruptive. For example he would ask questions about the menu and wine list and he had to go ask the bar tender multiple times.

Two stars for smiling and trying. Service was very, very slow taking nearly two hours for salad and entrée. Linguine and clam sauce was extremely creamy, as in classic white sauce and poorly cooked pasta. Lamb chops were good, but too much volume and not enough attention to presentation and prep of sides. If we return to the area the Pinecrest will not be on the list of repeats.

Most personable place in Pinehurst. Can’t comment on the hotel side of the business, as I have never been a guest, but I’ve never heard of any complaints other than you don’t want to have a room above or near the bar area if you’re planning on going to bed at 10PM. The food is absolutely great for the price. We’re not talking five star restaurant, but great choices under $ 30 a plate, and your drink is going to have some liquor. I have been going to this place for 30 years, and if you don’t like it, it’s because you were trying to find a reason not to… Steeped with history, good stories, GREATBARTENDERS, and an ample menu to suit all tastes. If you want five star though, go somewhere where you’re going to get just a slightly higher quality meal, and in some cases, lesser quality meal, and pay out the nose… or, go here, sit on the porch and relax while your table is being prepared, have a drink in the bar… watch whatever is on one of the three TV’s, and chill! Another great spot to go, on foot, in the Village. Carl’s the bartender, and he and Kevin, the other bartender, will definitely take care of you. Classy place. Good people. Early crowd can be a little older, but place gets rocking as the night progresses. Grab a table in the bar to eat if you have 3 – 4, and on most nights if you have larger parties they can find somewhere to seat you on walk in basis. I read some other reviews where people suggest times to be there, versus not, «as result of tourists», but truly, this is the melting pot of all locals and businesses from all over the world, so if you’re interested in meeting people, this is the place. And again, the food is REASONABLY priced, not chef priced… Not a place for whiners, and those who want to be pampered. I don’t get that at home, nor do you, so don’t expect it. Value, history, people who are nice. A-holes are quickly weeded out here.

Always get a good meal and the crowd is fun. You can’t take the PCI too seriously. I used to stay often but now just go for a meal or a smoke on the porch and to talk to people. A beloved Pinehurst tradition.

Massively overcooked food. Stay at the resort or try somewhere else. The pork chop was recommended at the specialty of the house, but was very disappointing.

If the salmon was any more overcooked it would be dust. I’ve had lava rock that tasted more like salmon.

If you dig golf history and good food you can’t miss Donald Ross’s historic inn. Been doing this several years now and I like the Iceberg Wedge(they should add candied pecans), the ribeye ‘mit bone, mashed spuds and daily veggies. It’s all good and reasonable. Spend the evening in the friendly bar where 90% of the stories are bogus and the balance are lies. Final coffee and cognac on the veranda. It’s why you go to Pinehurst. Cheers

First time here and it was Halloween. What a trip. Wifey has been here a lot and I understand this is the«It» place around here. We ate at the bar. It did not disappoint. Service, food and drinks were great. A real fun night!

Great place for the fun bar scene! Do not stay. Very pricey and very shabby rooms. Maybe it’s just a guys hangout, the bathroom and shower very sad, need two of the small towels to dry off! Come on no excuse for not having a Kleenex box in the room? The windows do open thank goodness because the cooking odors from the downstairs restaurant wake you up at 530! The staff is the only saving grace at the olé Pine Crest sweet kind helpful, why can’t they remodel the rooms?

Reason for visit: U.S. Open and night on the town with my lady friend. We come here quite often. We try to avoid the weekends because there’s a different crowd. During the week you can have a nice casual drink On the patio and enjoy locals. On the weekends or during special events the place is usually crowded with tourists or middle-aged women looking for their second or third husbands. If you have a sense of humor or if you’re looking for a favorite local spot this is where you should go.

This review is for dinner — not an overnight stay, and I have to say the food was wonderful! I had the filet and it was cooked medium as requested and was tender and flavorful. It was accompanied by mashed potatoes and mixed veggies. The crisp wedge salad, prior to the entrée had a generous supply of blue cheese and bacon. I’m a dessert person and find it can make or break a restaurant in my opinion and they aced it! Blueberry bread pudding — who know such a thing even existed? Warm, loaded with blueberries, topped with ice cream and with a helping of whipped cream– and then I waddled out the door. Great 100 year old building seeped in history added to the experience. And a special«thanks» to our waiter Sammy who made our evening even better with his service.

Best breakfast value in the county! Whenever we have weekend guests, we always bring them out for breakfast. Staff is professional and kid friendly. White tablecloth service, good food, good variety, great value. Rooms completely redone thhis winter in advance of the US Opens.

We’ve been coming to this place annually for the last 10 years, sometimes twice a year. In the last 5 years, we have seen gradual regression. To start, losing Mr B was a big loss, not only for the inn, but for the community that frequented this place. The recent talent is inconsistent and not talent. The Inn should resolve its personal issues and bring Mr B back. The restaurant standard is failing. Not sure who the chef is, but he needs to go. The food is bland, unimaginative, soggy and boring. The specials… well…there is nothing special. We spent Thanksgiving here and even tho we requested the main dining room, we were seated in the banquet room. By the time our small plate of food arrived(it had to travel 100 ft from the kitchen and through the bar) is was cold and sparse, swimming in a sea of gravy. If I were paying $ 28 for my meal(it was included in my room rate), I would have had a fit. Definitely not the standard 5 years ago. House guests should have preferential treatment, and be seated where they request, btw. The rooms are rustic and weathered. I agree there is some degree of charm to this place, but we always came back because of the meals and Mr B. The meals used to be plentiful and creative it and we looked forward to our visit, especially in the past few years. The rooms are OK… definitely nothing special. Sadly, this place is losing its edge. The people that work here are nice, but don’t understand that you should never say NO to the customer. I’m sure we won’t be back until reviews dictate something better.

The Pine Crest Inn is like coming home. If you’re looking for a Ritz Carlton, this is not the place for you. This is a true southern experience for golfers. This is not Disney. Leave the kids at home unless they play golf. Andi takes care of your tee times. Weekday Linda takes care of all you need during the week. This is a true guys golf trip location and don’t miss the opportunity to stay at the Pine Crest Inn

Terrible Christmas dinner. Alfredo was a tasteless bland soup of yuck. Had to load with salt and pepper to choke down. Shrimp was good though; all 3 pieces. Peach cobbler replaced with apple. Terrible mess. Strawberry crape when tiny and not tasty. Pecan pie was good. Hard to believe this is a premium place.

Whether it’s Pinehurst residents coming together to discuss politics over gin and tonics, golfers recounting stories of birdies lost to undulating greens, or tourists planning out their Pinehurst vacation, the Pinecrest Inn acts as the central meeting spot for this idyllic golf village. Located in the heart of the Pinehurst village, it is easy walking distance to the main hotel, as well as the golf clubhouse. Situated in what appears to be an old residence, the Pinecrest features several dining areas, as well as it’s central, dark bar area. If you do go, don’t forget to get some saltines and the port cheese. Nothing goes better with booze than spreadable cheese. The staff seems friendly, and when you walk in, there is a real sense of camraderie with everyone. Highly recommended. It’s a place that really celebrates civility, harnessing the spirit of sadly departed local legend, political titan and Pinecrest regular Ed Kennedy — the Pinecrest was a place that even mortal political enemies could shake hands and share a drink at the aged and timeless bar. There are far too few places like the Pinecrest left, so be sure to stop in on your next time in the Pinehurst village.

The friendliest place in Pinehurst. Awesome staff that organizes you golfing adventures. A great bar that is a wonderful mix of old and young, local and traveling golfer. And a wonderful dinner. Get the pork chops. 2+ inches thick, slow cooked for hours to be fork tender.(And easy enough to make at home if you have a great butcher that can get you the right cut of pork.)
