In May 2013 I hired McHandymanLLC to do a bathroom remodel in my rental home. Right on schedule he arrived to give me my estimate. I hired him and asked him to sign a contract stating the start and finish date. For everyday after the contract finish date I would deduct 10%of the remaining owed balance. No problem. Remodeling started right on time and he finished 2 days earlier than expected. Now here’s the problem. My tenant was being TOTALLY irrational– after we settled on the date to do the job she didn’t want him back in to finish it. «too much dust». Of course I had to have him finish the job I had paid him ½ of the $ 1,550.00 and tile was on the wall with no grout. The next day I met him at the rental property to assure there would be no trouble and he went about his work. When he neared the finish I asked him about some of the tiles– some seemed to have a bit more space than others but he said when the grout was on it would all come together. What do I know?. The trim he put on along the bathtub was not what we agreed on but it did the job. When I realized he wasn’t going to fill the nail holes I asked him to–(which he did). I quickly looked things over and found everything to be satisfactory, but being I don’t live there I would relay on the tenant to inform me of any problems. A few days later the tenant did contact me. While putting the bath-tub in he put a hole in the bathroom/bedroom wall. He repaired it with drywall mud and roughly sanded it,(that’s where all the dust was from) He did not find it to be his job to repair the wall and left it to me to sand and repaint. Also there were about 3 dents in the bedroom door(should have removed the door), and the tile behind the toilet was loose(he’s a tile guy by trade). I found all this out through my tenant via text message, who lives in the house(I forgot about the rough patch job-but I think he should have remembered it). I forward the text messages to McHandymanLLC with the tenant phone number and asked if he would call her to set up an appt. to address these issues. His responds was«I do not deal with tenants». Okay fair enough, I understand that so I asked him to meet me at his earliest convenience to make things right, I also asked that he bring me my receipts for my job as he had failed to leave them with me.- His respond– THERECEIPTSWEREHISBECAUSEHEBOUGHTTHEITEMSTHROUGHHISCOMPANYTHEREFORETHEYWEREFORHISWRITEOFF. I SIGNEDOFFONTHEJOB,(so too bad for me I guess). HEWOULDNOTBECOMINGBACKSOFINDSOMEONEELSE. So that is why I would not recommend McHandymanLLC. He is johnny-on-the-spot for an estimate, finishes the job before schedule– but don’t call him to come back and address any issues you may have with his work– he will tell you to call someone else. I do feel because I am a woman he could rush the job and didn’t quite care if his work was quality. I also believe the bathtub might not have been new(tenant said the bottom was rough– maybe that is why he did not want to give me a receipt?) I don’t think this guy is looking for repeat business.
