History

Established in 1880.

James A. Reed Funeral Home was started about 1880 by a furniture and cabinet maker, William H. Bowman. His home is still part of the funeral home today (house on the right). Mr. Bowman ran the funeral home until his death, when his grandson Marlin S. Reed took over.

It was in 1958 when the corner house was purchased and the two houses connected.

In 1969, ownership of the funeral home transferred to Marlin’s son, James «Jack» Reed after Marlin’s death in that same year.

In 1991, an expanded chapel area was added to the rear of the building, adding seating for 45, increasing the total seating to 100. This remains the current layout of our funeral home today.

Recently Jack’s son, William, entered into the business full time and is planning to become the 4th generation of family to own and operate the funeral home.
