Did a little shopping for meat. Even though the pork and steak was ok at a decent price, the chicken was BAD! Even though the«sell by» date wasn’t for another week. I’ll never buy meat here again!

Check your receipt, this place is know for over charging. One time I argued with the Manager over the overcharge of produce but wasn’t given the price indicated because the discription was different in small writing. It was even listed as number 2 in LA county for overcharging with weights and measures. They take advantage of the Latino community.

This review is for their bakery section only. The first thing I noticed was three of the doors that are suppose to be shut to keep the sweet bread fresh were flung wide open. Okay, no big deal. I go to grab a tray and tongs to start selecting my bread only to realize there are no tongs. They provided customers with sheets of wax paper so we could all stick our hands, and in some cases arms, inside in order to grab the bread; this should have been my red sign to run. However, I really wanted bread so I grabbed a few pieces and proceeded to pay. When I was walking home, me and the hubby each grabbed a cheese roll only to find the cheese inside had mold! I am soo glad I decided to cut it in half before eating it. Will not be returning for bread, ever!

Its a grocery store. A Latino grocery store so be very aware on Wednesday. The AD breaks on Wednesday so it gets jam packed. These kinds of markets are known for their produce.

Come early to get the best selection of veggies. The meat is always cheap and make sure you grab a number and shop because if you wait for them to call your number it’s going to be quite some time.

Love this store. Shop here often. They have a big variety of Meats and run some good sales on them. I stock up on marinated chicken and Beef Flap Meat(Carne Asada). I like the produce dept as well, they always have fresh fruits and veggies and the prices are great…

Very clean and well-kept store with incredible produce deals midweek. The store is also the center of that area for a sense on intercultural Community. Superior stocks regular groceries but where they excel is in carrying a myriad of Central American food traditions in addition to a decent array of Japanese and Korean fare. I specifically stop off here every Wed since I am in the Whittier area on business. On the big Produce days, Which are Wed& Thurs I believe or maybe Tues & Wed — sorry I’m not sure — there are ALWAYS several Brand Representatives cooking up sample dishes with their products and offering very good deals on Yakult, a new Korean brand like Pocky(99 cents and just as good!), Instant Masa, New and healthier cooking oils, ethnic foods cooked in new ways and so forth. Around the Christmas Holidays the Big Latino brands go all out and have giveaways, gifts w/purchase, freebies, coupons, recipe books and more. In fact, they have a lot of that year round. I find Wed to be the best day at around 11:30AM. The main reason I go there is to get the freshest regional cheeses from Mexico and USA produced cheeses in the style of El Salvador, Guatemala etc. When on sale, the prices are HALF what you’d see elsewhere. They also have a HUGE selection of the Malto-Meal taste-alike brands of the BIGNAME Cereals now in boxes. My family is addicted to the Blueberry muffin cereal that looks like Cinnamon Toast Crunch but is blueberry instead. When On sale, you pay $ 1.99 or $ 1.50 for what would cost you $ 5 in the brand and you cannot tell the difference. Sometimes Malto-Meal is better. I buy my Traditional Oats there(not instant although they have them too) since they are $ 1 cheaper a round tall box than Ralph’s. A DOLLAR! if you cook with oats or have kids that’s $ 3 a month in found money right there. The OTHER big reason is the Produce. Never have I seen better prices on the basics: Celery, Carrots, Green, Red & Bok Choy Cabbage, Apples, Roma tomatoes, Squashes of every color, green beans, greens of all varieties, Lettuce of all varieties, Cilantro, Flat leaf Parsley, Purslane(!!), onions of every color, potatoes, etc and so forth. Not ALL the produce is a good buy. Stay AWAY from the BANANAS. They never ripen properly. But so what? Buy your Nanners at Trader Joe’s and run to a Superior Grocery for all of the above. Today Fiji apples were 2 pounds for 99 Cents! The meats and fish are very VERY fresh but because they have a large display, you will smell it in that area because they are displaying fermented cheeses as well. The packaged meats are often much higher in quality than Ralph’s but you often have to buy a family pack to get an incredible deal. Their Hot dogs — when on sale the price is unbelievably low; same with packages cold cuts. I don’t like manufactured Chorizo since it’s made from icky parts of the pig but Superior carries a soy based Chorizo that is cheaper than the real thing and taste BETTER. It’s a win in every department … EXCEPT: Don’t go looking for Laundry and home cleaning buys here. the prices are HIGH. Same for Health and Beauty although\… I was THRILLED to see that they carried Gentian Violet, a thousands of years old mineral based antibacterial agent my Irish grandmother used to paint my throat with when I had Coxsackie Fever(sores in the mouth, common and related to Chicken Pox). Gentian Violet is used for many ailments by those of us from other cultures who never forgot about it. So other than that SMALL issue, this is a REAL Money-saving FIND! Get there soon!

Not too shabby, honestly. I came here as a result of a circular I got in the mail. I’m usually loyal to Food 4 Less, Stater Bros, and Smart & Final but the prices on produce and meat brought me in. Ironically, there is a F4L directly across the street. I’ll tie that in later. This place is CLEAN and organized. You can tell management takes pride in the store’s appearance, both exterior & interior(Food 4 Less on Imperial Hwy in Norwalk — TAKENOTE!). This was my first time at Superior and I will admit, I was pretty impressed. The store doesn’t smell like there’s a meat market on site, which is awesome. One thing I despise is walking into a grocery store and the first thing I smell is fish/meat/poultry. I don’t have that experience with Stater Bros and it was pleased that I didn’t have that experience at Superior. That said, because they don’t carry generic brands, such as Kroger, Springfield, etc., their prices on other grocery items do tend to run a bit higher than F4L. In fact, most things, with exception to produce and meat, are about a dollar higher than F4L. That was disappointing BUT not to fear — I just purchased what I found in the circular and ended up heading to F4L across the street. Overall, I like this place. I can see myself returning because they have great deals on produce and their selection is fresh and vast. I came from Norwalk to Pico for this and didn’t regret the trip.

This market needs a mexican deli section and fresh salsa. Upgrade this store with better rotisserie chicken and carnitas(pork and turkey) and it will definitely do better. Vegetable and meat section is pretty good.

We were heading over to another grocery store on the next block, but decided to give Superior a look-see. Walked right in to the produce section, looked around, and sent the hubby back to the car to get some reusable bags. Fruits & veggies were to be my main purchase, but I ended up filling up 5 bags. The veggies were pretty good and well-priced. I was happy to pick up enough veggies for the upcoming week. The fruit quality was so-so, so I just bought a little bit. Lots of bin items for Mexican cuisine. Dried chiles, beans and even snack mixes. The hubby wandered away and I found him filling a bag with pan dulce. 3 for 99 cents. There’s a good assortment of muffins & empanadas in that case too. He says that they’re pretty good. Soft, but not as fluffy as his usual place. Picked up some fresh corn tortillas. The bag was still hot! They have a tortilleria right on site. We love that. Good prices in the meat department! It’s pretty big. There’s the butchers’ counter and further on the side a long case with all the pre-packaged meats. I liked the cuts and bought some beef, pork & chicken. I wish they had a hot deli counter. Overall, this is a pretty good Hispanic store! It’s huge and very clean. It’s a good option for us. We’ll definitely add it on to our grocery shopping spots!

I haven’t been in a Superior in years. I just never really was a fan. I was in the area so even if I liked it this wouldn’t be my regular location but I could get a heads up about the chain. I was actually on my way to F4L in the plaza next door when I thought WTH, let me check them out. I didn’t get a cart because I wasn’t planning to get anything. First off, I like that they have really good deals on the basic grocery items(snacks, drinks, breakfast cereals, ect.) I browsed around and saw things priced at same as Walmart. The produce section is alright. I really like their spices/tea area next to produce. So many spices and teas for just about everything. You can buy the little bagged spices instead of those expensive bottled ones spending. After picking up a few impulse buys LOL I ventured over to the meats. I was so shoked at the prices and the quantity you get. They had lean ground beef for less than $ 3 pkg. And they had great deals on shortribs(which is what I was looking for). I was excited and chose a pkg. Then as I went further down the meats section I noticed they had even more shortribs so I looked and inspected as usual and I saw somethign so disgusting I got that nervous knot feeling. There was a dead/possibly still alive fly in one of the packages. It was so sick it just ruined it for me. So I suggest you check your packages in the meat aisle. I just can’t believe whoever stocked that couldn’t see it in there. It was smack dab right there. The BP location is closest to me so I’ll check them out, as of right now they are alright to shop at but keeping my eyes way open.

Interesting Place… If your looking to cook authentic Mexican food such as Enchilladas, chile Reyenos or anything, Latin this is the grocery place to go to… But this place is no longer called Gigante, it is now El Superior… They have a fully stock bakery, hand made tortilla area and also a fresh cut carneceria… This place has the freshest vegetables and fruits at a great price, compared to Ralphs and Albertsons… However, if your looking to purchase name brand names this place is over price, however you should expect this because it is not a big chain restaurants…

I need things to make some chile. Where do I go? Gigante! :) The one thing that I hate about this store is the layout. It appears to be the same layout in most of the other Hispanic stores as well. You walk in to where the produce is and if all you need is some produce, you have to walk all the way to the back of the store and then down the aisle to get to the registers. PITA! On a brighter note, if you ever need lard, look no more. *LOL*
