Suddath Relocation Systems

We have been customers of Horizon Moving for a very long time and have made many moves with them, at least 4 home moves and over 8 annual shipments, shipped around the world.
We are seasoned movers with 35 plus moves including local, domestic and International. We have never had any issues with them up until now.
This company was great when it was Horizon, but now that it’s Suddath… Buyer Beware this Crew Leader was horrible. Now that they are Suddath, they assign out the work to 3^rd parties. On April 26 – 29, 2016 We must have drawn the short stick this time around.
The crew leader, Tim, was disrespectful, and unprofessional. He kept creating issues and problems that were unnecessary. When Tim arrived to our home and was told that this international move included full unpack service, he said if he had known that he would not have taken this job and that he did not want to be there. Tim spent the whole time Tuesday trying to get someone else to work for him the rest of the week. (That was the clue of how the week would turn out). On Tuesday he only showed up with two workers and it was obvious that he thought this was a simple unload job and told us he planned to do this job in 2 days (this was 2 – 40′ containers and over 30,000lbs!). His total focus was to get everything off his truck as soon as possible.
We also sent at least a third of the boxes that were delivered to our home to our personal storage. My husband and son had to do all that work. The crew was not even allowed to place these items into a U-​Haul truck we had at our house. The crew leader said this was «extra work» even though it was actually less work than having to take these items into the house and unpack them. Some of the items were staged in our garage, but they left this an unsafe mess with no columns and it was just a big pile of boxes and bags.
The crew (Leo, Nick, & Charlie) did their job, or as much as they could, because Tim had other ideas of how things should be done to minimize his cost and time. They arrived with no working tools, no cutters, no packing tape, and not enough check off sheets to cover the range of numbers we had been given (what they call the bingo sheets). We let them use 3 cutters (2 yellow cutters walked off, they never bothered to return to my husband or replace the tape).
One month ago, in March, we used this same company with a different crew leader and they were amazing, I even posted a great review (Team Leader Joe, Crew: Leo, Mike S. and Charlie). Two of the crew members from that job were here for this job as well and were hard working and respectful on both jobs. All we got was a lot of attitude from Tim the crew leader.
On Thursday, Tim and his crew left my house before 1:00pm even though there was still over 100 boxes in my house that needed to be unpacked. About an hour later, two of his crew returned (Charlie and Nick) to collect the rubber matting they had laid down, the 3 dollies, two 4-​wheelers and ramp that they had been leaving at my house overnight for the pass week. They never bothered to take the plastic off our staircase or get paperwork signed. We weren’t sure if we would see anyone come back on Friday.

We were very disappointed this time around. After this experience, we could never recommend them to others moving. Most traumatizing experience.
Friday morning we had two different crew members arrive to our house (Chris and Adrian). They told us they were there to finish unpacking boxes. These two were great. They were very polite and very efficient. When they saw how the garage had been left, they agreed that, this should never have been left that way and in less than 20 minutes, they had it organized and arranged neatly (that is all I had asked the other crew to do, but Tim would not allow them to do it). It was a shame that we didn’t have the Friday crew assigned to us from the beginning. I have no doubt that none of our problems would have happened. What is important to every move is the crew leader. They can make or break a successful move.

The movers were great. No problems there. Be aware that they make you pay up-​front for your move. They estimated by move to take 9 hours. I told them that my last move was 6.5 and I had even less furniture on this move. They told me that my driveway had a slope and so it might take longer. Guess what? It took 6.75 hours and now I’m stuck calling to get my refund. Real hassle factor considering I just moved.

Just completed a move with Suddath from San Tan Valley to Tempe. Could not have been a better experience. Rich who provided the quote and the crew that moved my things were fantastic. Nothing was damaged and they were prompt and finished quickly. Moving is stressful enough, thanks for making the move go so smooth!

I would like to thank driver Joe S. and his crews in Gilbert AZ and San Diego CA for the wonderful job they did during my family’s recent relocation. From the packing in Gilbert to the unloading in San Diego, our move was handled in a very professional manner. All staff members were very efficient, polite, and friendly during all phases of the move. Thanks again for everything!

Awful. Our stuff was due to arrive today and has not. Today was the last day within the five-​day window we were given. They are attempting to have us change our flights so we will be there to meet their late driver. I hope I can repost and say that they did solve this problem.

We were moved locally on Oct 15. We were estimated at 4 hours and the movers finished in that time. I would like to compliment Marcel and his partner for doing a great job. They were very careful with our belongings and set up all the bedroom furniture and washer & dryer. They even took the empty cardboard boxes we had in the garage. I can highly recommend Suddath because they did an excellent job from start to finish

I hired Suddath because I knew the United Van Lines name and had heard horror stories of smaller moving companies from friends. Suddath did not disappoint. I had a great experience with their team. The quote (although not cheap at all) was reasonable for my move from PHX to LA. The packing team was early, nice, and worked very quickly. The team that delivered in LA was also pretty good. I have 0 complaints for the Suddath team.
i see various ratings below of people who were unhappy/​not satisfied with the move. I can honestly say that they might have expected more from a moving company/​did not want to pay for full services but expected them anyways. Furthermore, I am sure the people below might not have done their share of their work in terms of follow-​ups, being ready for the move, and being detailed regarding instructions.
Lastly, I did not have any damages nor missing items. Again, the ratings below do not make sense to me. And to anyone reading this, I am a medical student who had to move from PHX to LA for clinical work. I am not some paid person who is here to bash other ratings. I am just giving my two cents of a recent experience. Big Thank you to the Suddath team for making my life so easy.

Initially, I had a great experience with this company. My contact person was friendly, explained the process, and was quick to get me a quote. The movers who moved me out of my house were friendly and efficient. However, once I actually got moved out of my house, things went downhill. My belongings arrived 5 days after the 10 day window they provided me. I would call to ask where my belongings were, only to be told they couldn’t reach the driver.
Then, when I arrived to meet the driver, he was in a screaming match with the manager of my storage facility. He was rude the entire time. He was swearing, rude, and almost got my kicked out. Three weeks after my move, the driver who insisted that I had all of my boxes when I had several that were not checked off (he said he remembered moving them in and I must not have heard him call at the number), called to tell me he had several items of mine on his truck, including my mother’s wedding dress.
The week after my belongings arrived, they told me I still owed $ 47 because I moved into a storage facility instead of a house, despite the fact that I told them from day one that I was moving into storage. My contact at the company admitted it was her mistake for not including that in the quote and said she would get the charge removed. I heard nothing for weeks and assumed it was taken care of. Then, I got a bill sent to my employer asking for payment of this fee. I wrote back to the company explaining why I wasn’t paying, and assumed this was the end of it, as I never heard back.
Now, over a month after my move, after I received an invoice saying all was paid except for the ridiculous fee I was fighting, my employer was sent a bill saying that no portion of the cost had been paid. When I called to ask why, I was told the billing department couldn’t answer that question without calling the people who directly handled my move but that nothing had been paid… despite the invoice I had from two weeks earlier saying I had paid and the charge for nearly $ 3000 that I paid off on my credit card last month!
When I started this move, I thought I would use the company again when I move into my house. However, first impressions were definitely wrong, and I would never work with them again. It would seem that they are trying to double bill myself and my employer (we split the cost of the move), and no one seems to know what is happening.

Well, here it is – July 27^th and they still are slow rolling me on my insurance claim. What a crappy company.

The most unprofessional moving company we have ever come in contact with. If I could rate them negative stars, I would! We didn’t even make it past the phone calls for the estimate when we realized these people were going to be a nightmare. I will keep saying «them», «he» and «people» throughout this review, but in all honesty we only spoke with one man, David Johnson.
Round One: We had an appointment for an estimate and on that same day, just an hour before, he called to cancel. We understand life happens and a sick child is unpredictable, therefore we rescheduled. This wouldn’t even be a negative comment if what followed this didn’t happen.
Round Two: My boyfriend literally works across the street from our apartment and it takes 2 minutes (if that) to get home on foot. When he rescheduled he specifically requested that they call him right before they arrive so he could meet them at our apartment. He didn’t want to leave work in case they were going to cancel again. 4:30 comes around, our appointment time, and no call. When my boyfriend got home a little after 5 he called them, and wow was someone having a bad day. David snapped at him because we weren’t here at 4:30 and that he had waited 20 minutes for him. When asked why he didn’t call when he arrived… Wow again! He said he’s been doing this for 27 years and it wasn’t his job to call beforehand, and that he had an appointment at 4:30 that we should have been here for. My boyfriend tried explaining to him that if he would have called like we were told he was going to, then my boyfriend would have been here in 2 minutes or less to meet him.
Round Three: HE HUNG UP!!! Don’t even get me started on this… I couldn’t believe it. He also did not answer when we tried calling him back.
***FYI*** Because you do not know us… I want you to know that we are laid back, nice people. Even if we were jerks, hanging up on a client/​customer is unacceptable and disgusting.
Round Four: We called the customer service phone number and left a message for someone to call us back about what happened, and guess what? No one called us back!
Thank God we did not give this company ALL of our belongings. Could you imagine? I strongly suggest you not trusting your belongings with people like this either.
This is for the company: We will be moving half a dozen times in the years to come as my boyfriend’s job requires it, so you didn’t just lose out one job here, you lost out on many!
For the readers: if you have a company that you recommend for out of state moves, please let us know! We are looking for someone we can rely on and use repeatedly.

Although I moved on 12÷20÷13, they didn’t charge my credit card until 01÷04÷14, even though I had called them on 12÷30÷13 and was told that it would be processed that day!!! As a result, I can’t claim the charge on my 2013 taxes. I won’t be able to charge the moving expense on my 2014 taxes either since the single charge is not enough to exceed 2% of my AGI. The move itself was fine, just the billing sucks!

This company may have been great when they were Horizon, but now that they are Suddath buyer beware. They are horrible. Did not live up to one promise. This was the most stressful move we have ever had. Do not believe the story about the move coordinator, as the are just sales people, and are not available nor answer emails.
Very sorry that we made them our movers and would never use them again. This is with reference to the Tucson office,

We used Horizon for a two part local move (some goods moved into a temporary apartment and most goods stored, then the apartment and stored goods moved to a new home).
They managed to damage two refrigerators and a dryer and completely ruin a washing machine. We were eventually compensated for those losses, but we are now (after the deadline for claims is past) finding hidden damage that was known to the moving crew but hidden from us so that they are just now being found.
Needless to say, we are disappointed.

Until Horizon, I had never before hired a moving service. I was convinced they would 1) break my stuff 2) molest my stuff and/​or 3) charge a premium for breaking and molesting my stuff.
Horizon changed my attitude about the moving industry and about the ease of trusting a conscientious, hard-​working local company with the valuable material aspects of my existence.
Booking the move was completely painless. I never got that «what did I sign up for?» feeling because I knew exactly what I was getting. The crew was dedicated and friendly. They quickly and efficiently moved all my stuff, none of which was broken, molested, or suffered a single scratch. This is especially impressive considering my penchant for hoarding delicate, antique lamps.
I’m glad Horizon changed my mind. It costs way more (physically, spiritually, emotionally, monetarily) to rent a truck and do it yourself. I’ll miss the back strain and attendant excuse to lay around for days watching three seasons of Damages. Other than that, I’m a convert.
