I’ve been there twice now and Steve’s wife Nellie cuts my hair, one chair over from Steve. I get the scissor and clipper conservative look. Besides a great cut she treats me like royalty. I walk out looking and feeling much better than other places I’ve been to. Steve has always come across as a nice guy in my presence and conversationally, as has their son who is one of the two 20 somethings who do the great«custom pro cuts» I guess you’d call them. It’s a fine family business that serves you far better for a tad more money than the franchised chop shops. Even though appointments aren’t necessary, I always call Nellie and ask for one.

What a Great! family run business. I have been going to Steve’s now for over 5 years. No fluff just a great cut without all of the upsizing!

Haven’t posted a review in quite a while, but this merits one. I’m a former Phoenix resident who moved back to SF a few years ago. However, I’m in Phoenix regularly for work, and decided to take chance on Steve’s Barbershop last week on my way to airport. Asking for a bald/skin fade from a brand new barber is quite a risk, but Steve gave me one of the best I’ve ever had. That, plus hot towel, shoulder massage machine, and a REALLY great value for the price(especially compared to prices in SF!). Kicking myself for not knowing about this place before — I never truly liked any of my barbers when I lived in Phoenix but I’d have been a regular here. Will recommend it to others.

I’m was on the look for a good barber here in Phoenix since I move from California, I got on Unilocal and looked for barber shops with good reviews and this place didn’t disappointed. I got a hair cut with Steven’s son and very pleased that way he did my fade and taper. So if your looking for a good barber here’s the place to go.

I would be giving zero stars if my second experience was my only experience. On this second occasion I had barely walked in when told«the guy that cuts your kind of hair isn’t here, come back tomorrow.» My haircut is so simple that any barber can do it. Any. Same length all the way around with a little extra left on the front top. No fades, no special shapes cut into the side of my head. Real simple. The heavyset man there didn’t ask what style I wanted, just presumed black guy wants a black guy haircut. I was coming here because it was closer to my place than my regular place, Nate’s Barber Shop on 7th Ave. Thank you for reminding me why it’s worth it to me to go to my regular place and stay the loyal customer I am. I’ll never go back to Steve’s Barber Shop. Lest anyone think I’m implying racism, I’m not. You can come to your own conclusions. I’m invoking Hanlon’s Razor: never presume malice where stupidity is more likely.

My old barber happened to go out of town and I needed a fresh line up for the weekend, and I never thought to use Unilocal to find a barber, but I am thankful I did. Jeff was a magician with the blade, he gave me a fresh shave and trim and went all out. The barbershop is clean, the tools are well maintained and he is an expert at his craft. I don’t even feel bad that I left my barber of two years to start coming to him, he is cheaper and without a doubt much better. If you’re looking for a great bread line up or anything, he is the man. As he says, he’s a white guy with black hands when it comes to hair. You will not be disappointed.

I’ve been cutting my own hair for about 11 years until I decided to grow it out(I don’t touch long hair). As a born and raised New Yorker, I’m very picky on barbers especially for low fades, skin fades, line ups, etc. I highly recommend Jeff and Joe as they are perfectionists and can fade to very high standards. From what I have seen, I would go as far as calling them the best in Phoenix. There is a great barber shop closer to where I live but I take the extra 3 – 5 minute drive to head to Steve’s. The owner, Steve and his wife are very good as well but for skin fades I recommend the younger barbers Joe and Jeff. They work quick and cut for a great price although I have a set price with tip usually(by choice) as I get my hair cut weekly. Again, their flat rate and ambience is great and I gladly tip these perfectionists. Best in town and maybe best in Phoenix.

Steve is spot on. His craftsmanship is top notch. He takes the time to cut every hair perfectly. In a nut shell his service exceeds expectations. Haircut, style, hot towel, neck and sideburns shave and a shoulder massage for a very reasonable price. Try it, you’ll like it.

I’ve had a good haircut here and two bad ones. When they put the«We Buy Gold» sign in the window I knew it was time to look for a different barber.

I came in for a walk-in today and to say I was pleasantly surprised would be a drastic understatement. Jeff gave me the best haircut of my life and I’d recommend him to anyone. It’s a good friendly atmosphere in the store, and the employees are fun and polite. The cost was surprisingly low for how much attention he paid to my hair, and I really appreciated that he took his time to make it perfect, even though the cut was done quickly and professionally. I would recommend this venue to anyone looking for a great men’s haircut at an awesome price.

Steve is one of the few shops that can still do a decent flat top. He is in my neighborhood, so it is great for me — convenient. Steve is personable and the shop is inviting. I love the hot towel and back-vibrator massage. I have been going to Steve for years, great service product!

My co-worker referred me here to get my weeds chopped! Reasonable rates, very fast service. The barber used a blade to cut the hair on the back of my neck, puts a hot towel over my face & uses a massage machine on my shoulders! I will be returning!

I go to Steve(Slava) quite frequently(as in, whenever the hair gets long) and the fact that I drive all the way to his location from my castle in Tempe should tell you that it’s for a good reason. His rates are good, the quality of haircuts is very consistent and you can even ask for a neck shave with an actual straight blade. He is careful, yet efficient and quick. Don’t forget to tip well!
