RJ Dog Park at Pecos Park

I wasn’t really impressed… It’s a big enough space for the dogs to run, but it’s just flat ground. I personally prefer the dog parks that have landscaping and other items in them. I heard while I was there that when it rains, the entire area fills with water, which after reading other reviews seems to happen once in a while.
Three stars because it’s always good to get the dogs out to socialize… the people at the park were friendly, and there were no issues with aggressive dogs.
I did have a problem though with one family who had two small children… one aged about 2 and the other 5. They were approaching dogs and hugging them around the neck… made me cringe every time I saw it. This was in the large dog area… while my dog is great with small children, not all dogs are. Please use common sense people! What would have happened if the littlest one was in the middle of a few dogs playing aggressively, or heaven forbid a dog fight.

The park is separated into a small dog park and a big dog park which is a good idea but inconvenient for me because I have both a small and big dog. Another thing I noticed when I was last there was that there was a group of people all with their huskies, id say at least 8 – 10 of them. I have nothing against huskies or any dog for that matter but they seemed to be very aggressive towards other new dogs whom they did not know. Im guessing that these dogs always hang out with each other and so kind of have some kind of park deal going on because they teamed up against this one dog that had come in and it got to the point where the dog was Unilocaling and the owner had to leave because the other dog owners weren’t doing anything and just laughing as their dogs bullied another dog. it was really sad. nothing against the park itself but this experience just turned me off from coming back.

This ones not our favorite. People seem to be a little more lax in their cleanup and the behavior of their dogs. Also, frequently we’ve been and there’s no one there. Tempe is the best!

My family and I take our two little dogs to this park. We absolutely love it and so do they. They have recently added some more shade structures and sweating which is nice. The separate space for small and large dogs works well. We’ve had good experiences each time we’ve gone. There is plenty of room for the dogs to run and play fetch. Everyone that I’ve come across there has been friendly and sociable. Around it makes for a nice family experience.

Brought my little 8lb 6 month old Otto here for the first time !! He loved it! All the owners were watching their dogs and their was a nice shady spot for me to hide from the sun. I will be coming back here often :) yay!!!

First time here at this dog park and I am happy to say that I’ll be back! I always see this dog park while passing by on the freeway but never ventured out to explore it. I took my Siberian husky here and she had an awesome time!
Pros:
1. Separated for small and large dogs — I love this because sometimes my dog won’t get along with small dogs. It really annoying to see people bring their small dogs into the larger dog section. It’s separated for a reason.
2. Trash bags are provided and some people brought grocery bags for others to use too — I feel that the bags that the park provides are way too big for such little poop. It makes me feel like I’m wasting the bag. I love how the trash cans are tilted up so that the dogs can’t get to it. Definitely something different compared to California. There was no poop lying around so that means people take responsible for their dog’s poops!
3. People here are nice, friendly, talkative, and are responsible for their own dogs — I really like that! The people here are super easy to talk to and they take responsibility when their dog is acting out (from what I witnessed tonight). Lots of people come here compared to the dog park in Maricopa.
4. Lots of benches, tables, and trees for shade — great for humans and dogs.
5. It’s spacious! Great big space for dogs to run and explore!
6. The small dog section is a little bit further way from the big dog section. I really like that! The small dogs can do their own thing without getting distracted by the big dogs and vice versa.
7. Lots of parking!
Cons:
1. The grass is dying but it’s also super cold and icy out. This park recently survived from the flood couple weeks back. It’s going to be awesome when the grass grows back! The dogs will love it!
2. Not too many water fountains around. I think I only saw 2 in the whole large dog section.
3. You have to drive around several loops before you get to the dog park. It’s not convenient where it’s just right there upon arrival. It also seems like there’s one way in and one way out. I feel like that can be dangerous.
More pros than cons! I recommend this dog park to anyone! :)

BF and I have taken our pup (German Shepherd) here a few times, we really like the convenience of the location and the fact that there are two separate parks for smaller and larger dogs.
That being said, the only thing that I don’t particularly care for, is the fact that some owners disregard the sign to the larger dog park that clearly states: No dogs under 20 lbs and no children under the age of 12. For safety reasons, I presume.
You must be careful where you step as well. Poop galore.
I do like the simplicity of this park, although they really should throw a couple signs up pointing out where it actually is.

Really disappointed with this bark park. Even through it has separate enclosures for large and small dogs, each space was lacking shade and multiple places to sit. Even worse, there was poop everywhere!!! Pick up your poop people! If you can, make the drive to the much more spacious and cleaner Paseo Vista Rcreational Park:

I love this dog park because it’s close to my house and there’s a separate part for smaller dogs 25 pounds and under and another enclosure for the larger dogs 25 pounds and above.
If you have a dog that is antisocial and does not get along well with others please do not bring it to this park so we don’t have to worry about our animals getting into a fight because your dog never had proper socialization skills. We all greatly appreciate it.
My only problem is that they turn off the lights too early for those of us who want to enjoy it in the very early morning or late in the evening Especially in the summer.
Lots of people come to this park in the morning before work and in the evening after they get home. Plan your playtime accordingly.

What a nice place, and I didn’t even know it existed! Over Fourth of July I babysat Dan H and Sarah H’s baby, Ildi, a gorgeous vizsla. Ildi is full of energy and I live in a townhouse and while I have a lovely grassy area out front, she’s not to be trusted so it was off to the dog park we went, as often as three times a day. I threw her ball until her cantor slowed to a trot then back home we went.

We always come here its a no frills park its got a small dark park for dogs under 20 lbs and one for dogs over 20 lbs. Water fountains are available for both sides. Water bowls seem to come and go.
Doggie bags are provided for pickup, park is generally clean.

This park is nice in that there’s a large dog area and a small dog area. The enclosures are big plots of grass with some trees, some small shaded benches and a large shaded bench area. My dog had fun running around and rolling around in the grass. While for the most part he gets along with the larger dogs at the mixed-​size Tempe Sports Complex dog park, he can get bullied and intimidated by some of them. So, it was nice for him to hang out with only smaller dogs that didn’t make him feel as nervous.
There’s a spartan water fountain at dog level for thirsty pups, and a non-​functioning fire hydrant for dogs that need their fire hydrant fix! There’s no path for people to walk around like at Tempe Sports Complex, and parking can be very difficult if you go at a time when there are kids sports teams on the field, but it’s still a nice enough park that I would go here if I’m in the Chandler area with my dog and he needs some exercise and more social doggie interaction.

This is a no-​frills dog park. It’s great for dogs who like to run.
No agility course, water provided, or anything like that. Just a big empty space with a fence. We like it, but if you «need» the obstacles check out Cosmo.

My friends and I recently brought our dogs to this park.
It was difficult to find and I think they could have had some water buckets/​dishes. Aside from those two complaints, I have to say it is not a bad venue. My greyhound had a blast and ran around every where.
The double gates are always a good idea. They have two gated dog parks– one for larger dogs and one for the smaller dogs. Since my dog is mid-​sized but very mellow– she got to go to both parks.
Only one dog owner scared me by saying that her dog often ‘played’ with other dogs by biting their necks– um actually that’s a dominance thing.
Anyhow-​my friends and I had a good time and I know the dogs did as well!

There are two large enclosures here: one for larger dogs and another for smaller ones. Although I have no dogs of my own, I had a chance to experience using them both during my swim team’s «Dog Day at the Park» last weekend. My teammates and I were in the «big dogs» enclosure, playing with the big critters they brought when one of my teammates arrived with his dachshund and his chocolate lab. Since he couldn’t have both animals in one enclosure, I volunteered to bring the little wiener dawg into the enclosure for smaller (below 20 lbs) dogs. Both enclosures were very spacious and clean, and the pet owners who we met were very friendly and shared plastic bags and even water for other dogs if needed. Lots of parking, and the whole park complex itself was quite nice — well-​maintained and very spacious.

for any newbies like me, this place is located on the FARRRR north (i think) corner of pecos park. you will go through 2 roundabouts — go straight through the first one, and L at the last one, and keep going to the end of the parking lot.
it’s pretty big with some soccer fields adjacent to them. the large dog park (greater than 20lbs) is closer to the lot, which actually doesn’t make much sense to me. we’ve only been in the big dog side, since there were barely any people there on the mid-​week morning i took my pup.
from what i can tell… dog owners seem to be a little more responsible here! the 3 – 5 that were there at the same time as me were attentive to their pups. they have a collection of plastic bags going on… and the mutt mitt station bags are HUGE, so if your dog is uh, large like a horse, perfect! (seriously, they looked like they were poop bags for horses, they were huuuuuge).
there’s nothing special about this place. mostly dead grass and dirt. 1 bench/​table. 1 – 2 trees. it’s pretty bad. they do have garbage cans everywhere, which is nice, annnnd a fire hydrant. yay? i didn’t really see the dog fountains, but maybe that is just me? prob a place you would only take your pup during the colder months in az.

This dog park is just okay. Lots of room for the dogs to run and play however it seems that there are people there who do not watch their dogs thus creating some chaos. Would be better if the owners were more aware and responsible for their own animal! My dogs seem to enjoy playing there though!

There are two large doggy play yards — one for dogs under 20 pounds and one for dogs over 20 pounds. Sometimes, people don’t know what a little tiny purse size dog weighs, and they bring them in the wrong yard. It is always fun to watch a lab try to wrestle with a chihuahua.
Some people also feel it is necessary to keep their dog on a leash even though there are large gates protecting the dogs from escaping. My friends, if your dog does not behave off the leash, it does not belong in a dog park with other dogs. :)
These two issues — dog size and leash/​no-​leash — exist at dog parks near and far — I just like to help gently guide those new to the scene.
Also, never wear clothes you love to a dog park. You may be confused for a lamp post or fire hydrant, and become a conduit for pee-​mail. Watching spaced out dog owners get sniffed and peed on is funny no matter how many times you see it happen.
Bring water for yourself — there is one covered picnic table in each fenced off area. And bring a leash — you have to have your dog on t he leash until you get inside the gated area. Great park. Big enough for the big dogs to run a lot and get tired. Because of the separate yards, little dogs can have fun too.

I am currently dog sitting for a girlfriend of mine here in awatukee. I’ve known about this park for a while, and took the dog to check it out for the first time.
I really wavered between 3 and 4 stars on this. I’m giving the park the benefit of the doubt, since it is a park, and I wish all neighborhoods could have a dog park available to them. Where I grew up, we had parks for kids, but there was no designated dog park area. Having an accessable dog park in the area is such a luxury to me, and I think its amazing and wonderful.
Anyways, the park is simple. Fenced grassy area, stinky water area, one bench area for shade and thats it. Heres where my disappointment sets in. I have been to other dog parks in the city of Phoenix, and seen a lot bigger and better jobs having been done. I think they should have had a better water area for starters. It was a spicket with a pool of water around it. Dogs were drinking and wading in it like a bunch of wild animals. It looked like a scene out of National Geographic. At other city dog parks, Ive seen actual spickets that you turn on that do not fester water pools. I also think they could have provided a better shade area, with more coverage.
All I can say is that the dog had an amazing time regardless, and that was the point of all this. Dog was tired for the rest of the day and now thinks Im the queen since I took his furry butt to the park!
