Description

Specialties

Quartet Sabaku-an Arizona string quartet– brings concert artistry to performances and special events. We provide music for many types of functions including weddings, receptions, parties and religious services.

History

Established in 1997.

We started out reading quartets for fun once a week, and it just took! We were sent to the Sinaloa Festival de las Artes in Mexico and realized that if we could spend a week together in the same car without killing each other, we were gonna make it.

Meet the Manager

Katherine S.

Manager

As a self-managed group, we’re all co-owners.

Cynthia Baker, Leslie Turner, violins; Katherine Shields, viola and Yelper; Fred Chao, cello.

Cynthia and Leslie both grew up in Phoenix, Katie and Fred grew up in Chicago. We found ourselves in Phoenix and the rest is history.

«Sabaku» is Japanese for «desert.» We were going to call ourselves «Fred and the Horsehair Honeys» but it didn’t fit on the business card.

Katherine S. says,

«Duo Sabaku played a concert here in June 2008 for the Chaparral MusicFest. Great crowd, wonderful food and we loved the coffee. An original!»
