Proteus West; architecture, planning, human factors, has a fundamental view that, as designers, we advance ideas; ideas that redefine interactions, that reflect new technologies and new ways of living and working, and that enrich human activities rather than simply contain them. We recognize that our environment shapes our activities, so we give particular attention both to the nature of those activities and to the design that advances them.

We believe that artistry is a basic quality to which all humans respond and, as such, view it as an essential element in every project. We do not view good design as an added expense to the project. Budget constraints do not inhibit good design, rather they drive the search for creative solutions — working with less simply requires greater ingenuity on the part of the designer. The best design has the power to enhance the activities it serves and the environment in which it is situated.

History

Established in 1980.

In 1980, we started as paul george bakalis architecture and interior design providing sustainable design to the commercial, wellness and residential markets later changing our name to designworks indicating that responsible design works in a relationship with individual and environment.

designworks’ expansion into the Southwest happened in 1995 with a recent name change to Proteus West that represents the evolution in approach, process and passion to the culture in which we are engaged in the shared responsible creation of space and environment that enhances life and shared existence.

Mr. Bakalis is a highly skilled leader in the design and construction environment with experience in Life Sciences, Healthcare, Higher Education, and Research and Development. The skill he brings to a project focuses on strategic planning and development, construction and design services, and organizational tactics to identify our client’s needs and expectations. His broad knowledge and skills in the industry have afforded him the opportunity to serve his clients in many different capacities; as designer, contractor and strategic partner, all with a high level of customer service. Having this extensive knowledge and insight to the construction and design industry, is an added benefit to any team he is on.
