Primp and Blow – A Blow Dry Bar

I was able to get a last minute appointment for a blow out last Saturday. It was busy in the salon and it’s a very small space but well used. They offer a drink to start– soda, water, etc– and I always enjoy the warm towel during the wash. Great magazines to read and my gal wasn’t chatty so I could just relax with my session. Overall a really good experience and a great blowout!

My daughter wanted her hair «blown out»… and I have to admit, I was skeptical. But this spot had a great online appointment registration, was very clean, and we had a very timely hair do! The young man who helped us was friendly, did a great job with her hair, and it was all painless :-)

I just received a shampoo and blowout by Vincent and absolutely loved it! I get my hair blown out a few times a month and I’ve tried a few different places but this is my favorite. He was super nice and I will definitely be back to see him again! My hair is smooth, nicely curled and looks really healthy! Thanks Vincent!

I came to have my hair done for my brother’s wedding. I scheduled an appointment for myself and my daughter. I would’ve loved to have sat next to each other & had our hair done @the same time. Shampoo was nice & I did enjoy the warm towels. The stylist who did my hair was professional. Just extremely disappointed that our hairstyles didn’t last until the end of the night. Not sure if I’ll be back?

This review is pretty much for the gentleman who did my service, he was amazing and deserves 5 stars. Everything else was a bit off.
I purchased a Groupon months before and decided to use it the day before we flew to HI on vacation. With a 6 AM flight, no one wants to be awake let alone get up and do their hair. I booked my appt through their online booking system and away we went.
That evening, ALL streets in PHX headed that directions had major accidents and were slow moving. I called ahead at 5:20 (my service was at 6:00) to give them a heads up I might be late and the lady who answered the phone was rude. She acted put out that I was calling, had no sympathy for traffic and barked «So will you be here by 6:10?» I said I couldn’t be sure but I was going to try. I later found out if you are more than 10 min late, they cancel your service and charge you full price.
I get there with 3 min to spare and am greeted by the gentleman who is going to do my style (sorry I cant remember his name). He gave me a bottle of water and did a great job on my style. He was very friendly and was sure to ask how I liked my hair styled (product vs no, how I part my hair).
The retail cost of my services was $ 60 which is a lot considering I pay $ 55 to have my hair cut and styled at the Aveda place across the parking lot. I may come here again for a special occasion but the price and the nickle and dime of the cancellation policy rubbed me the wrong way.

Aubrey did a good job on my romantic curls. They lasted all day and all night! Also, thank you for taking my appointment the day before!

I don’t like to write bad business reviews ~ however, I’ve always felt like you’re doing NO ONE any favors when you say NOTHING about bad, or non existent service ~ esp. when something BETTER comes about bc of it!
I went into Primp & Blow at 7:30pm on Saturday night ~ it was my birthday & the friends we were going to meet for dinner cancelled ~ so we had extra time & I’ve always wanted to go to one of these Blow Dry Bars since hearing about the concept.
I’ve got long, thick, fine, stick straight hair and it tangles easily. When I walked into Primp & Blow, my hair was freshly washed & in a knot at the back of my head. All I wanted was a blow dry.
Oh BTW –I’m sure appointments are encouraged, however I did not have one. We were just driving by, I saw it & asked my husband to stop so I could run in really quick.
It looked like there were at least FOUR women working there. When I saw that they were open for another half hour, I thought I had gotten lucky! WRONG.
Only ONE of the FOUR women was actually blow drying someone’s hair & it looked like she was almost done. One woman was sweeping the floor and there were two women behind the desk. One of the women behind the desk talked to a friend? the entire time I was there & the other woman seemed very nice, she was all smiles.
When I asked her if it was possible to get a quick blow dry, she smiled and said: «No I’m sorry we don’t have any stylists available to do your hair.» I asked her if she was sure as I looked around again to be sure I had counted FOUR women working there at the time… (or so I thought). The woman smiled at me again and said yes, she was sure, no one was available to do my hair. I was not angry about it ~ I knew when I walked in that I did not have an apt & it was possible they wouldn’t be able to do it. I think I was more surprised than anything else.
FYI– I never mentioned that it was my birthday because the LAST thing I want is a hair stylist doing my hair who does NOT WANT TO DO MY HAIR.
I asked her one last time, I said: out of all the people here right now~ NO ONE can do my hair? She smiled and said no, I’m sorry. (mind you there still had been no discussion about exactly what I wanted done)
Still smiling, she told me what time it was (7:30pm) and she told me what time they closed (8pm).
So, I said: okay, thank you. I walked out, got back into the car & I asked my husband to drive me across the street to Ulta at Collonade Mall. (it was the only place I could think of nearby)
And… this is the part of the story where everything turns around! :)
When I walked into Ulta, there was ONE girl working in the salon~ by herself. She had NO customers at the time and when I asked her if she could possibly blow out my hair ~ she smiled & said YES, she would be happy to do my hair! I asked her name and with a big smile, she said her name was Jinny. (BTW– I found out that the salon in Ulta is open until 9pm on Saturdays) I couldn’t believe my luck! I liked her very much. Jinny was very sweet and she was actually pretty good! I didn’t ask her but I could tell that Jinny’s been doing hair for years. I’m going back to Jinny for a cut in the near future. :=)

Fun experience! This was my first time at a «Blowout Bar» and everything went great. I had a wedding to attend in Sedona that night and thought it would be way easier to have my hair done than haul all my styling products, irons and dryer up to the hotel. I had purchased a Groupon for a shampoo, scalp massage and style. My stylist was Jace who was very nice. He asked me what I wanted, I asked what my options were and he gave me several suggestions. I decided on beach waves which required a curling iron and cost an extra $ 10 which was well worth it. Jace gave me a ton of volume, styled my bangs perfectly and finished the look with even wavy curls. This style which would have taken me hours had I done it myself and would have never looked as good, took Jace 30 minutes to complete. I will definitely return as this was very convenient, reasonably priced, quick, and my hair looked great!

I love getting blow outs when I’m out of town on vacation. It feels great to be pampered. Saw this place on Unilocal and made my appointment on Unilocal.The place is inside a nondescript strip mall next to a Dunkin donuts. The décor is very cute with tall ceilings. The place was clean which is very important when you have hair being tamed everywhere. The guy who did my blow out was friendly and conversational. I have really long hair so I’m sure it wasn’t a walk in the park for him. They offer a variety of soft beverages, coffee, tea etc.

Came to Primp and blow about 2 months ago for a blow out and a braid before my birthday dinner in old town. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. My hair turned out great but wasn’t quite what I had asked for. The braid she made was a fishtail when I had asked for a french braid. I ended up loving it anyway, but still was a little taken aback when it was so different than I was expecting.

Apparently didn’t want any new business. When we were asked if we had an appointment and said no the girl at the front desk simply stated that she had an appointment at 3:45 and walked away

I needed a place to do my hair for my engagement photos. I check on Unilocal and found this place close to home. Here is my problem: I have lots and lots of hair so I am a little hesitant to have anyone do my hair and sometimes, I feel like I get charged much more because I have too much hair. It’s like a punishment to have more hair than the average head.
I call them and asked if I will get charged more for my thick hair. They told me «no» so I was good with that. When I get to the place, they ask me if I was someone else. I say, «no». I tell them who I am, they tell me to have a seat, and ignored me after that.
The girl they were looking for gets there and they treat her great! They ask if she wants fruit infused water, coffee, tea, maybe a «massage». I’m kidding about the massage part but damn… she gets great service.
No one asks me if I want some damn fruit infused water, tea, or coffee! It would of been nice to be asked if I wanted that crap! Even my stylist doesn’t ask me. He just starts working on my hair. I tell him I want beach waves. He starts shampooing my hair and digging his nails and fingers in my hair that it hurt!!! Was he trying to kill the invisible lice in my head?! Then he starts blowing out my hair. The blowdryer got close to my head sometimes that my scalp felt like it was burning. Then here comes the curling iron. That went well… phew.
It took only thirty minutes and I wished he was more gentle, careful and took his time. The total bill = $ 45 + tip! To me, I think that’s insane for someone who only took thirty minutes!
Overall, I give this place three stars because my hair turned out fabulous and my pictures looked amazing! If it didn’t turn out great, I would give this place one star.

Very disappointed in your in the reservation system. I had purchased a groupon for the Tatum location. When I called at 4:30, I asked if I could get in the same night. They said they didn’t have anything available until 6:15. So I made the appointment and asked where on Tatum they were located. I was told Tatum & Shea. Yeah, a Primp & Blow on my way home from work. So I went home did a few things and headed for my appointment at 6:15. It was closed!!! Called the scheduling and Brianna finally found my reservation, she said at the Camelback location. Very disappointed… I ‘m not sure how they could screw up the location when I said I bought a Groupon for this location and asked exactly where on Tatum it was. Just frustrating…
I hope the service is better when I finally do get a reservation at the Tatum location.

Not impressed. My stylist did an OK job in drying and styling my hair, but having to listen to her belt out Mariah Carey for the first half of my appointment and then listen to her and another stylist rap obscenities along to a radio station that I’m almost positive is not on the approved playlist, I will go elsewhere.
I’m here to relax, not listen to you audition for American Idol.

Recently I went to Primp and Blow to have my hair and make up done for engagement photos. I had great customer service by all staff. Stephanie was my stylist and she did a fabulous job, and listened to what I wanted. My engagement pictures went smoothly and I felt great about the way I looked.

I had done quite of bit of research on both Unilocal and The Knot before I decided to book Most-​Important-​Day-​of-​My-​Life-​Hair at Primp and Blow. After giggling at the name like a 12-​year-​old, I picked the Town & Country location instead of Scottsdale Waterfront location (which is actually closer) based solely on reviews about the great customer service at Town & Country. I know what you’re thinking, «Snooty ladies in Scottsdale?! NO WAY!» I’m sure I could have just steeled my nerves, pulled on my big girl panties, and saved myself a bit of a drive, but this was gonna be MY day. I’d rather not waste the energy going all Bride-​zilla while the citizens of Tokyo flee for their lives.
Booked a run-​thru with Vanessa two-​weeks before the Big Day. She’s a no-​nonsense, tell you how it is, Dear Lord is that another Pinterest board, kind of gal… and I absolutely loved her! I sheepishly showed her pictures of what I was hoping for (yes, on Pinterest… stop with the judgment) and I could immediately see the wheels turning. She recommended clip-​in extensions* and found a set that matched my own hair color perfectly. I was amazed at how quickly she worked and when she handed me a mirror and spun me around, I was thrilled with what she had accomplished — a beautiful half-​up/​half-​down with height and curls. I felt like a damn Disney Princess. I had Vanessa UN-​do my hair so there would be some surprises on the Big Day. She did a lovely job on the make-​up as well and when I got home that night, my betrothed smiled big and said, «You look like you!» Pretty sure he was concerned I’d come home looking like a contestant from RuPaul’s Drag Race (no T, no shade).
Two weeks later I brought my mom and two step-​daughters for our official Big Day Hair Dids. The 11-year-old’s hair is a short bob, so I was concerned that she might walk out of their looking like a TV News Anchor, but Stephanie flat-​ironed out the «poofiness» my girl hates and did a sweet waterfall braid around crown of her head. Courtney took the 12-year-old’s shoulder-​length wavy mane, played up the curls and pulled twisted pieces from the sides around to the back. Both Courtney and Stephanie did a great job with the girls’ make-​up. They looked polished and sweet and NOT a day older than their real ages, which is exactly what I wanted. I was so pleased with what Tiara was able to do with my mom’s short hair and for her make-​up. Mom smiled and said, «It’s me… only better!» Vanessa somehow out-​did her run-​thru hair and I could not have been happier with the result.
If you’ve read this far, hang with me now for the break-​down:
— The entire team at Primp & Blow were courteous and helpful. It was a Saturday afternoon so of course is was very busy, but not chaotic.
— Ask for Vanessa, Courtney, Stephanie, and Tiara.
— The price for all of us (not including my extensions) was VERY reasonable and MUCH better than most of the places I had researched.
— They don’t provide water-​proof mascara, so I brought my own – didn’t want Vanessa’s hard work to go to waste when the inevitable happy tears would fall.
— I really need an excuse to go for a blow-​out (out! I said «out!» Get your mind out of the gutter)
* Want some justification for dropping money on extensions? Sure you do!
1) A human person grew this hair out of their head for years and probably got paid good money for it = be a Job-​Creator!
2) They are reusable and easy to care for (already popped those bad boys in for another event to wow my friends and colleagues).
3) If someone asks, «Is that your hair?» you reply with, «I paid for it, so yes, it is my hair.»

I saw Angie on Sunday and man she was awesome. I’m a hair stylist and was lazy that day. I was nervous to go in. I have curly hair and I wanted it straight with a bend on the ends. She did it perfectly, better then I could do to myself. I will definitely see her again! Oh and BTW it’s Thursday and I haven’t washed my hair since she did it. It’s still perfect. I’m not gross, I’ll wash today. Lol

Went here for a blowout today for the first time and couldn’t be happier. The service and the quality of the job was beautiful. I have no idea how i was out in less than 40 minutes… as promised. I will definitely be back. Thank you Primp and Blow!

I am a huge, huge fan of blow dry bars and with DryBar being added to central Phx, I was glad to see Primp and Blow join the fray. This place is located in the shopping center by the new Nordstrom Rack. It is decorated bright, modern, and comfortable. I have come to this location twice with very inconsistent results.
Both times, the girls didn’t realize I had added a deep-​conditioning treatment to my blow dry reservation (when reserving online). I don’t know if this oversight lies with the front desk or what but it is annoying to have to tell the girls doing my hair when they are done washing it.
I always choose the straight style (since I have curly hair). The first time I came, my hair was straight but it looked really fried when we were done. I was really puzzled because usually my hair looks amazing when I leave those places. This last time, I chose the same service and my hair looked really great. I was very pleased.
You can also enjoy a glass of wine, mimosa, or water while having your hair done. Overall, I would try it again but gave 3 stars because of the first poor experience and second really good experience.

What is it about a good hair day that can change you from a grumpy introvert to beaming beacon of confidence and sass? I can’t explain it, but I don’t need to. I’m sure we’ve all experienced it.
You can walk into Primp and Blow in a two day old ponytail and walk out with a red-​carpet ready, voluminous mane. I know– It happened to me!
When you first enter this dry bar, you are transported into a land of style and luxury. The décor is impeccable, and the retail is top notch. After my check in, I was introduced to my stylist Roman for a quick consult. I told him I like big volume, soft waves and I hate pomade– I have to be able to run my fingers through it! He said no problem at all, and took me back to the shampoo area.
That’s where things got real.
I then had the best shampoo/​scalp massage I have ever experienced, and I’m not even exaggerating. It was nothing short of heavenly. It must have lasted at least 10 minutes, and I’m pretty sure I dozed off.
Afterwards, he showed me some products he was going to use. He didn’t go overboard at my request. They use Bumble and Bumble which is really top of the line stuff.
He styled my hair to perfection and I was super happy with the result. He listened to what I wanted and totally delivered. Not to mention being super fun to talk to.
One of the girls in the chair next to me had enviable cascades of beautiful blonde hair that looked breathtaking when she left. Roman was great, and it looks like the other stylists are awesome too.
I loved my hair– even the next day. I can’t wait to go back!
