Phoenix Engine

Horrible customer service, I called multiple time to get a status update on my engine. I get a call back from them a month later. I order my engine early August they told me it would be done in October. October comes around they tell me November. November is done now they say December. I get a call from them at the end of December saying my engine will be done by mid January. It’s January 20^th while I write this and still no engine. I called them multiple times trying to get a hold of the guy who gives you an ETA on when it should be ready, but he hasn’t responded yet. I spent a lot of money on my engine and Phoenix Engine has given me nothing in return.

If I must I will give a 1 Star’(this place has the most shady owner Randy. He sells blocks that are under powered from what you pay for. Better get your Engine dynoed if you use them. Horrible place.

After paying over $ 6,300 in advance and 8 weeks later am now told that the 302 engine I ordered, (that was supposed to be 7 – 8 weeks out), was not ready and I would be lucky to get it in another 30 days but no promises. These folks are pathetic. If you do business with them after all the bad reviews then you get what you deserve.
My project is completely stalled and I’ve had to order another engine from another machine shop. I did business with them because they had a 100% satisfaction rating at E bay. What a scam.
Excuse after excuse of why they cant get it done. But up front before getting my money they of course promised 7 – 8 week delivery time just to get my money.
Randy is apparently the owner and also bait and switched on me adding extras after the sale, charging me more money and then not delivering as promised. They will mess up your timing on your jobs.
Randy tells me that most if not all of his clients «don’t care about timing, they want quality». Funny he didn’t mention that when he wanted my money.
After cancelling my order 2 weeks ago I’m still waiting for my refund to my account, which Randy assured me was credited back on November 6^th in 2 refunds of which only one deposit has been returned. I’m still waiting for the other $ 3,000 to be returned.
And after talking to Randy 3 times last week his story changed again and now he states that he did the refunds on Monday 11 – 9 and Tuesday 11−10−15, and then on a later conversation said that I haven’t received my refund because Wednesday, 11−11−15 was Veterans Day.
Randy is an outright liar, undependable, untruthful, will tell you whatever you want to hear to get your money and leave you to hang and dry. You cant expect to get any answers from his staff either. they know nothing and always steer you to Randy who never returns phone calls. I had to initiate all calls to Phoenix Engine and as of this morning, 11-​16-​2015 have had to get my Bank involved in the process of getting my money refunded due to Randy’s lack following thru with my refund.
As of today, 11−16−15 I’m still waiting for my refund and have spent countless hours on the phone between the Bank and Phoenix engine so that I could get my money back and be thru with this scamming outfit.

I have the worksheet by his employee, Larry, that states to call in 7 –8 weeks to pay prior to shipping. There has never been any mention of 12 weeks, nor did I even speak to Randy prior to the 7 – 8 weeks. I would never agreed to 12 weeks out, it doesn’t meet my deadline, speaking of which is now delayed due to Randy’s Phoenix engine.
Lets face it folks. Read the other reviews and see if you don’t read the same story from countless other people.
Randy even processed my final payment within that 7 – 8 weeks without my signature or approval since he kept my card # on file. I never authorized that payment. I have all the documents from the bank to prove what I’m saying. I had to get the bank involved just to get my money back since randy lied to me about when it would be processed.
Randy, lets face it. You have many folks who have complaints, not just a few.
Just don’t want to hear of another poor hard working person to get beat up by your tactics.
And lastly Randy. It isn’t «LIABLE» if its true, so get over it and clean up your act!

Sign on the wall said, «You are responsible to follow the building of your engine through our process» or words to that effect. That becomes difficult, however, when you call and are left to rot on the phone, or you are promised that Randy will call you back Real Soon Now — and of course you already know what happens (or doesn’t happen) then.
It took so long that they lost major parts to the engine and then — I am not making this up — charged me an hour of labor time to find those parts they had lost.
They screwed up the valve stem heights, and then charged me even more to fix them after making up some lame reason to blame me for it.
Do yourself a favor — don’t.

Can not recommend. Very poor customer service. Never get a call back. Once they have your money good luck to you. For the warranty; what you need to provide to them is ridiculous. Think twice before you choose them. I will be gracious with 1 star.

this shop screwed up my block so bad i had to trash it and get a new block. they would never call me back and took for ever just to clean a 350 i had to go down to the shop and just pick up my block. if i was not so mad i would of saw the chip in my cylinder wall. if you want to get the run around never get a phone call and never want to get your engine done then this is the place to go.

Full Disclosure; I bought my Ford 302 and had to delay my install ! My experience began with the owner Randy going over the needs of my project Type of Engine, Transmission, Vehicle it will be installed in, use etc. What I received was an engine with the Wrong Flex Plate, Wrong Oil Pan, Wrong Pulley Set And lastly what was nearly Bait & Switch Randy sends the engine without the Carburetor to offset my shipping costs. After reviving my project and learning the mistakes that were made on my engine build I made numerous calls to Phoenix Engine asking then to send the parts required to correct their mistakes. I’ve been passed back and forth between Randy and Larry. The end result Phoenix Engine has not corrected one of their mistakes and after close to $ 750 in replacement parts my engine is nearly installed but yet to run. Speaking of Run RUN FROM PHOENIX ENGINE REBUILDERS they lack integrity customer service and in my opinion your taking a huge risk doing business with them.

I am quite disappointed to say the least. I called regarding pricing for my project engine to be cleaned and check the first time I was told someone would call me back 3 days later no call. I called again today and was told that they wont do any work to my engine and no one in the valley would. The engine is a 400 sbc I than called another shop who was more than happy to do the work. I am severely disappointed especially since they claim to focus on customer satisfaction.

I’m not impressed with them at all.
Their website boasts, «We can rebuild a stock engine to suit your needs and your pocketbook.» However, they leave out the part about, «if we feel your project is worthy of our time».
After 2 minutes on the phone with their receptionist (a.k.a. call screener) I was told I would be speaking to Randy. 20 more minutes on hold and it was obvious they were not interested in working with me on my ’95 GM 350 (TBI) project. Didn’t matter that I wanted their expert advice for my truck. It seems if it’s not 350 to 1500 horses, it’s not worth their time. I’d be OK with being told, «we’re not really the kind of shop that can help you.» That kind of advice is beyond their level of customer service though.
These guys are only interested in building high performance engines for muscle cars or the track, regardless of what they advertise on their site. Don’t bother calling them for custom machine work on anything that’s not up to their lofty standards.

Have to add a quick update, Phoenix Engine has redeemed themselves to me. I had since moved out of state and had some issues with my engine that I had to have a local mechanic fix for me. I contacted Randy and told him the problems and it being under warranty asked him to reimburse me for the repair. He immediately sent me a check for the amount of the repair and told me they had received a bad batch of parts and have since switched vendors. Since the last repair the motor runs like a dream, good job guys. Thanks again!
