I know what you’re thinking: «I don’t eat Wonder bread.» or «I heard rumors about Twinkies.» or even«Ewww. Out of date baked goods.» I must have passed by this outlet store for 2 weeks before I decided to stop in. Today was my second trip, and I have to tell you, I am pleasantly surprised by all the Hostess brand encompasses. Sure, you can get your Wonder bread for your grilled cheese sandwiches. And you can get your boxes of Ding-Dongs and Suzy-Q’s. But did you know they also carry healthy breads? Nine and 12 grain wheats, oat, country potato, whole wheat and more. Plus you can get all types of buns, bagels, English muffins, and breakfast breads. Hostess also makes its own brand of cookies– duplex cremes, striped shortbread, plain shortbread, iced animal cookies, ginger snaps, fudge grahams, and many more. They also make their own brand of cereal– I have seen honey o’s, plain o’s, fruity o’s, crispy rice, corn flakes and frosted flakes. They also carry fancy flours, muesli, granola, flaxseed and baking mixes, some condiments, jams and peanut butter, Mrs. Cubbison’s bread crumbs and stuffing mixes, and the Bear Creek line of soup mixes. They also have some brands of chips and pretzels, including Cape Cod and Tom’s. The store itself is old, but clean, and is situated in front of a major distribution center for all of these products. Take a moment to check the dates and you’ll find some things that are close to their sell– or use-by date, but many items are months from their date, particularly the dry goods like cereals and cookies. You can save a good bit of money, too. There’s always a special deal by the door as well. If you buy over $ 7 worth of items, you can get something like a big box of donuts for $ 1. So far I have resisted the donuts, but I’m definitely hooked on this quirky little store with far more going for it than Wonder bread.
