Harris & Sons Tree Specialist

Great company! Two trees removed and two trees trimmed quickly and affordably. Beat my first estimate by $ 150 and I now have my «go to» tree specialists.

I had a huge tree in the front yard that needed to be removed. We called other tree trimming services for estimates. Harris and Sons had the best estimate by far. The guys came out when they said they would, did an amazing job and left my yard spotless. I would definitely use them again.

Never again. Never again. Never again.
I will preface this by saying of the four times they have been to our house to do work, they’ve done a great job of trimming and thinning (the RIGHT trees… more on that later) for a fair price. No complaints there. Crews have typically been fast, efficient and polite. I’d give them 4 stars seperately.
My issue with them and ultimate reason for resorting to writing this review is due to their consistent bad communication and listening skills. I think only half of my calls have ever made it to their office.
1. Half the time when you call during business hours the phone rings and rings eventually switching over to an answering service. It might not even be until the end of your conversation that they identify as such however.
2. We’ve had calls weeks after service requesting for payment when we’ve already paid. Harmless error but still makes you question them just a bit.
3. We scheduled a day to have a tree removed only to have them show up unannounced on another day. Luckily I work from home but not knowing a crew of men is going to come to your door when you’re sitting around in your pajamas is a bit uncomfortable. Furthermore during this visit I was told that we wouldn’t need stump grinding as they could get the stump down fairly low. Yup. It was fairly low and I was pleased. Next week… AGAIN someone shows up unannounced to grind down the stump. It ended up looking great and you would never know a tree was there. Everything was cleaned up afterwards like this tree never existed. Just a whole lot of confusion and miscommunication here. Should have been a red flag but the work was done well so I overlooked it.
4. The last straw though was our most recent problem with miscommunication. We called to have 4 trees trimmed — some Palo Verdes in our from yard and the large one in our backyard. All total 3 large trees and one smaller sized Palo Verde (it can be trimmed from the ground… just needs proper shaping). We identified the tree in the back to be serviced and were told there was no need for them to come out to give an estimate as they knew the yard and had been out two months previous to remove a tree of the same kind. Not a problem they said! We have that on file they said! Ok. Fantastic. We were happy. Until we came home that day and found our front trees done and the large tree in the back untouched. Instead they trimmed a very small tree in the back that we normally take care of ourselves. Obviously we weren’t very excited to see this since this tree is maybe ¼ the size of the one we needed done which was described in detail and over and over we were told it wasn’t a problem. They knew the one.
So we call… were apologized to profusely and they said they would send another crew out the following week to take care of it for free. As we didn’t feel this was right, we offer to pay for what the small tree would have cost but no… they wouldn’t accept. During the conversation (because our confidence in their listening skills and attention to detail at this point is waning)… the tree in question was described further… the location and THE FACT THAT THERE ARE BRANCHES THAT ARE OVERHANGING THE HOUSE. We figure with this little nugget of information they should be able to tell which tree to trim, thin and shape using that information. Apparently not. They came and went in about 5 minutes never even ringing the doorbell. By the time I realized what was going on and went to find some shoes to go outside they had already left. In the end they trimmed ONLY THE FOUR OR FIVE SMALL LIMBS THAT TOUCHED OUR HOUSE. We are now looking at a tree with one heavy side and it looks like ¼ of the tree is missing. As I look outside at this tree now I just see a misshapen mess with a few dead limbs exposed. Quite simply… a hot mess.
At this point we call back and lo and behold… again they aren’t answering and we get the answering service. A couple hours later (right before they were closing I’m guessing?) we get a call back and I explain the situation. The woman argues that this is all she has written down that we said we wanted done. REALLY? No, we were describing the tree we wanted to be done… not the work we wanted done to it. We called 2 weeks prior requesting this tree be trimmed, thinned, shaped, etc. It still hadn’t been done. At this point the woman begins to become argumentative and refuses to send anyone out to actually do the work we had already paid for claiming that they can’t afford to send another crew out a third time yet offers a partial refund. How does that make any sense? At this point I wouldn’t even know what the refund offer is since no one has returned my call after I had to discuss this with my boyfriend (who paid the bill on this job).
Shame they can’t see that sending another crew to fix their multiple screw up is cheaper than losing us as a customer. Oh well. Onto finding another company. Again.

Not all good service is about doing it right the first time — but sometimes the BEST service is making it right when things didn’t initially turn out as planned. Harris & Sons exemplifies what it means to have strong business ethics, read on! I retained the services of Harris & Sons in November 2014 to trim 5 large trees at my rental property. I live approximately an hour away and don’t visit the property often. The trees were trimmed and my tenant told me they all looked great. (She didn’t know the scope of the services for which i had contracted). I visited the property for the first time since the trimming in June 2015. One of the trees, a Queen Palm, showed no signs of trimming. In fact, I contacted 3 other tree companies who told me the tree probably had not been trimmed in 2 years. I reviewed the invoice and receipt and confirmed I had contracted for trimming of this particular tree. So I gave the company a call — inquiring about this particular tree and if it had been trimmed in November 2014. Joyce in the office was extremely upbeat and helpful. She gave me Jerry’s number and told me he would be happy to look into it. After a bit of phone tag — and some exchanges of pictures of the tree in its current condition — I received a note from Jerry. He and his crew would be back to the property and trim that tree up — and apologies for the oversight. Folks — these are the kind of business ethics and personal morals we just do not see anymore. Mistakes happen — who cares. It is how we deal with them that define us. I would absolutely recommend Harris & Sons for all my tree trimming needs. I cannot express enough my gratitude for them stepping up to the plate — admitting an oversight — offering a correction — and we all go about our day. Third time out used this company to trim our trees. Only had them cut a Palo Verde this time. Called in and they were out the next day to trim the tree. They are really fast and clean up is good.

The team showed up at 7 am ready to go! Great service, fast and very affordable.
We had a somewhat complicated pine trees that needed removed and they accepted the challenge. No hesitation and the job was completed within just a few hours. The team was very polite, and cleaned up everything from our yard and the neighbors. I would highly recommend this company for any tree removal.

I was very impressed with my entire interaction with Harris & Sons. Upon calling for a quote they were able to come out and assess my trees within a few hours. We scheduled a date to remove my two juniper trees and grind the stumps and they completed the job within a few days of the initial contact. I was not home when the work was completed, but everything was cleaned up afterwards so that I would have never known they were there (except for two missing trees). Everyone I spoke to at Harris and Sons was extremely helpful, I would absolutely use them again and recommend them to others.

We had three trees removed recently from a property we purchased. We received many bids and decided to go with Harris & Sons, as our local nursery also recommended them to me. They were competitive in their prices, and their representative, Jason, was very knowledgeable and helpful. He showed up for his appointment and spent time answering all our questions. They performed a very involved removal requiring a crane and stump grinder. Harris and Sons was extremely timely on their arrival and they left the premises as clean as they found it. I was shocked how quickly and efficiently they removed three very old trees with no damage to our house or property. I highly recommend them.

I called and spoke to office in regards to a trimming estimate. The office said they would be out the next week. After not hearing back from them, I sent an email requesting an estimate. Again, no reply.

Spoke with Joy about having a very dirty mesquite tree taken down in my backyard. She sent a crew out that day to give me an estimate. They called and gave me the estimate which, in my opinion, seemed excellent. I told her to schedule it. Four days later, they arrived to cut the tree down. Now this is a 18 – 20′ tree with a big canopy. It was down in 10 minutes! They cut it all the way to the ground and said the stump grinder crew would be right behind. I didn’t know there was a separate crew for that, but within 20 minutes or so, another team showed up. They got the root out in less than 15 minutes! Both crews cleaned up after each job and it looked as though there was never a tree there to begin with. From dealing with Joy on the phone (who is very pleasant, by the way) to how fast and efficient their crew was, I would highly recommend them. In fact, I am recommending them to someone today who has a similar dirty mesquite tree.

We recently discovered that the VERY large carob tree in our backyard was rotten so we began getting estimates for its removal, as it was hanging over our house. 7 estimates… prices varied more than I could fathom. Our 2^nd estimate was from Jason at this company. This young man was very knowledgable and professional. He clearly knew what he was talking about far better than the other 6 people who gave estimates. We hired them at a price nobody else could touch. When the day came for the tree removal, we were blown away at how efficient his crew performed this task. It was like poetry. Tree was down, removed and cleaned up in about 2 ½ hours. I highly recommend them to everyone who needs this service.
Jason and his Dad are the nicest people we’ve met in a very long time and I’m sure they’ll be in business for many years.

Do not use these guys if you want your trees to look beautiful. They cut ALL the main branches off of my immature dessert trees. So, all my new growth will be in weak, 90 degree angles from the main branches that have been topped. They will grow up to look like this:

On the positive side, the company was easy to work with, responded quickly to my call, and was reasonably priced. So, if you want your trees trimmed so that they don’t need much maintenance, then Harris & Sons may be the company for you. Also, they helped my neighbor when a huge tree fell on his house during a storm. It was a very tough job, and they worked through a very hot day to get it all done.

Contacted these guys about having work done. They came out quickly to give a quote, prices were average and we then gave the go ahead on a Friday.
I had to question them with any sort of time frame of when they would be coming out. The response I received was «Sometime next week, Tuesday or Wednesday, I’ll call you before were coming out.» Still a vague appointment, but manageable.
Wednesday afternoon rolled around and I hadn’t received a phone call. Called the guy I previously spoke with and wanted to touch base on when they would be coming out. He responded with «Uhhh I’m on a motorcycle right now I’ll have to call you next week.» I questioned the next week and was very confused, it was only Wednesday and he basically responded with some «we got pushed behind» generic response. I expressed I was very disappointed considering we needed this work done before the following Monday, and now they obviously wouldn’t be making that deadline. Waiting a week just to get another possible phone call is very unprofessional business.
They were hardly apologetic, didn’t even offer to confirm an appointment for next week, it was just another «ill call you». After I explained we were on a deadline he finally apologized and I declined having them call next week to then set an appointment.
Anyway, whether it be the case or not with them getting behind, I’m very disappointed with the lack of communication. Please call your clients and update their status. I shouldn’t have to call and retrieve updates, and sit here wondering when this company is going to come do my yard. Horrible follow through, and I’ll be finding another company that can do the work they commit to, when they say they will. Freeing up your schedule and willing to spend a lot of money for a company that stiffs you is ridiculous.

Had a scheduled morning appointment for some tree work. Stayed home from work to wait for them. They never showed up or called. After 2 hours of waiting, I finally called the office to find out if they were coming. Lady in office was nice and everything but she informed me that they couldn’t make it to my scheduled appointment. I don’t understand that at all. I had a scheduled appointment and they couldn’t make it? I went with another company who actually showed up when they said they would.

Outstanding job. Responded quickly and the job was completed within 2 days! I was satisfied with the work he did and it was done at a fair price! I will hire him again in the future for any tree needs that arise!

Overall, the work performed was stellar and the price I paid is very competitive. I have upgraded my rating from 3 stars to 4 now that the work is done but I am still hot over the lack of communication.
My first review outlines my experience starting with the quote on Thursday ⁴⁄₂₄ (that I wanted to accept for the Friday availability I was offered) to Monday ⁴⁄₂₈ when they actually removed the trees but not the stumps.
The workers who removed the trees said someone else would be coming with the stump grinder but the stumps were still there when I got home from work on Monday; they were still there on Tuesday too. So I called Jeremy to see what was going on, and again I left a voicemail. Once again I was not given the courtesy of a call back. I decided to wait for someone to call me for payment so I could ask them to finish the job before I gave them my credit card info since I expected that would be the only way to get their attention. Money talks.
Finally, a week after the trees were removed (10 days after they originally said the job could be done), I came home on Monday ⁵⁄₅ to a yard free of stumps! I was very impressed with the care they took to protect our vehicle and how well they cleaned up after themselves.
I got a call from accounts receivable (Jason?) the next morning and he said he had been notified the work was completed and he mentioned their stump grinder had broken down and they had to wait for parts. It would have been nice if someone had called me to update me on this when the grinder broke or even when I called confused as to what was going on. He asked if I’d like a bill mailed to me or if I’d like to pay over the phone. I was ready to be done with this project sooner than later so I whipped out my card and paid over the phone which was quite convenient.
Perhaps they should upgrade their business phones so they can see they have a new voicemail… Until then, expect fantastic workmanship with spotty communication.

This was a great price and they were finished in less than one hour. They brought the right equipment and several guys to trim my palm tree, which must have been the worst and most neglected palm tree in all of Phoenix. Now it is trimmed and clean. Go Harris and Sons !

We moved to Phoenix from New York. Because the trees and pricing may be different out here we went online to ask for tree removal/​trimming quotes. Four places called us to set up quote appointments. Harris was not the first place to call us, but was the first company to actually drive by and quote us (within one day). When Jerry called with his quote I was very clear about the fact that we wanted other quotes, and the guy was understanding and very nice. I said that another company was already scheduled out a few days later and that he’d have to wait to hear back from us. Again – he totally understood and was appreciative of my communication of that.
Jerry called back the next day to tell me that they had two other jobs scheduled near my house the following day, and would I consider having them come out and do the job? Jerry came down more on the quote, and it was too good to turn down. We asked how long it would take to remove one giant, overgrown and double twisted palo verde tree, grind out the stump and also to trim back the mesquite tree, which probably had never been professionally trimmed + all debris removal. (It was a big job). Jerry said that it would take two hours, and said that his guys would be there at 11am, if that was okay with me. He said that he didn’t want to be pushy, but he wanted the job and knew we’d all save money. (we did).
I called my husband to confer and he agreed we should go ahead and do it, because at that time, one of the other companies had already driven by and given us a written a quote that was $ 100 higher than Jerry’s. It was a no-​brainer so I called Jerry right back and we scheduled for the next morning.
Jerry’s guys showed up two minutes early (yay!) and the job was finished in ONE hour, on the dot. Unbelievable. You’d never have known that the palo verde tree had been there. The mesquite tree looked amazing, and the yard was spotless — no debris. I could hardly believe it. We LOVE it! Payment was so casual – I simply called Jerry to tell him the job was done, and I gave him my payment over the phone. It was that simple. Jerry answered some questions we had about drip/​irrigation tubing, and then he also recommended Whittier Tree Farm over on Southern in case we wanted to replace the tree we had removed. He told us that we’d get a discount there for mentioning his name.
We will call back next year to have them do all of our trees. GREAT EXPERIENCE.

After calling 8 companies for estimates, Harris & Sons was by far the lowest. I didn’t want to go with just the least expensive either, so I did my research first. I only called companies with excellent BBB ratings which would also ensure that they were licensed and insured too!
I wanted estimates on the removal and stump grinding of a 60+ ft pine tree, 50 inches in diameter whose roots had cracked the corner of our perimeter wall. It was also leaning over our neighbor’s house. You wouldn’t believe the difference in pricing! I actually got an estimate for twice the amount that Harris & Sons offered. What I liked about them was that they didn’t start off with a high price and then try to negotiate it down to get my business, they were low from the start!
I spoke to Jerry, who was very pleasant over the phone. A few months later, (my research took some time) I called them to schedule the service. I didn’t even need to be there. Yeah. it made me little nervous, but these guys are professionals. They came out October 18^th, 2013 in the morning while I was at work. NOT ONLY did they do an EXCELLENT job removing our tree, but they even cleaned up the area and took branches lying around that my husband had cut off another tree.
I’m so HAPPY with their service. I would definitely recommend them and use them in the future.
