History

Established in 1968.

GateWay was originally located in downtown Phoenix, named Maricopa Technical College, which became the first technical college to be established in Arizona. On May 1, 1987 Maricopa Tech became GateWay Community College, adopting the name commonly used to describe the surrounding area. The Automotive Center was added to the campus in 1989, followed by the Child Care Center and Central Plant in 1998, and Center for Health Careers Education in 1999.

Accreditation

GateWay Community College received its NCA accreditation on July 30, 1971. In February of 2010, GateWay was recommended for a ten-​year accreditation renewal by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, the maximum renewal offered.

I’m writing this review in response to H. G’s incorrect review. I was disappointed to see a classmate disrespecting a former teacher of mine that I really enjoyed. I am currently in the HVAC program and doing well. This program is well thought out and all the teachers are great guys. There is a ton of equipment to work on and a lot of theory based learning that will be crucial for trouble shooting in the field.

it’s over all a good school with good teachers i like it and the enrollment staff is helpful the math tutor Garvin is super helpful and helps you understand everything def go to him, the campus is clean and security is super cool about helping you get the keys out of your car if you lock them inside (not saying this happened to me, but they are helpful (;)

This place is NOT military friendly. The new people they put in Veterans services in April 2015 suck they have no idea what they are doing and half the time they sit around and stare at you instead of help you. I have to go to the dean of the school just to help me get everything straight and still cant get it straight because he doesnt even know what to do, for gods sake we had to call VA and spend 3 hours on the phone on how to certifiy classes! Are you for real?!? Bring back the people that knew what they were doing, please!!! If you are a Veteran i highly advise you to seek another school or dont use your benefits here. they have been dinged 4 times by the VA for not certifying classes correctly and messing up Veteran benefits!!! If you want to go through HELL to get your classes certified then GateWay is the place for you! If you dont, seek another school.

The campus at gateway is very nice for a community college. The only problem I had was with the financial aid office. Don’t expect to have anything processed by the office on time. I submitted a maximum appeal form and it took them 2 months to give a decision on the form. Normally it should take no more than two weeks. I ended up getting my funds for financial aid way too late because of it and was dropped from my nursing courses, and forced to use my credit card for tuition and books until the financial aid went through. I feel like I have done my part of turning things in way in advance– however, they don’t seem to care one bit about processing times. Good luck.
I recommended going to Scottsdale C.C. instead. They are very passionate about their students.

Yes, I love Gateway community college. I first received college credits from here while I was in high school. The set buildings are indoors so if you are taking general classes the main building is an indoor facility, and that is where the cafeteria and main computer labs are. The health programs building is indoors as well so it is a much welcome relief in the summer here in sweltering Arizona.
The teachers here are great, I received my Health Unit Coordinating certificate from here. All of the health programs are extensive but you learn a lot and there is a sense of community at this school. They offer a lot of lucrative programs here such as x-​ray technician programs, nursing, respiratory ect.

Received a Certificate in Electroneurodiagnostics from GateWay. I had awesome teachers who worked in the field and did everything possible to provide the best education experience for us! I feel blessed to have gotten to experience my education with them!
Knocked off a star because they started construction and knocked off the overflow parking lot with no notice of where to detour to. It took a couple days to figure out where the new parking overflow was moved to. I don’t know if it was notified to students and I missed it or if there was a lack of communication on their end.

I went here for a tour and saw some cool stuff. The staff was friendly and helpful and the facility is newer and in good shape. Seems like they have some good programs such as respiratory therapy, physical therapy, nursing, auto, and some mechanical programs as well. If you are interested take a tour and decide for yourself if it is right for you.
