I was returning to this location for a repeat of the best haircut I’ve had in Phoenix, but when I got here and looked in the windows I wasn’t sure I was at the right place as the interior was brighter, more open and modern than I remembered. It was however same location, nicely spruced up by new owners, stylist Daniela and her husband Francisco. There’s comfortable new seating and hair product display case up front, new flooring, fresh paint, and a still-comfortable and unpretentious but just«nicer» look and feel to the shop. The shop definitely feels more«salon» than«barber», but there’s nothing so overtly feminine in décor or furnishings that I think most men would feel uncomfortably out of place. Daniela is the sole stylist at this time. Husband Francisco manned the register, tended their beautiful and God-bless-him-quiet-and-well-behaved baby boy in the background and provided occasional translation while Daniela cut & combed. I think that officially makes it a(young) mom ‘n’ pop shop. Note: Surely no child can be that sweet tempered all the time, but you’ll hear no testimony to the contrary from me for today. Daniela is a lovely young woman who looks like she knows how to take care of herself and her fine looking husband and son as well. For me personally, this inspires more confidence than a Goth hair dresser of either gender with skinny jeans and more makeup than a kabuki dancer who makes me think«If he or she thinks that’s a good look, what are they going to do to me?» Meanwhile, as to the haircut, my lank straight hair shouldn’t be that much of a challenge: get it off the ears, make it a short business-like cut with no sidewalls(skin showing on the sides), yet that seems to be beyond the skills of many a professed professional scissor-hand turned mane-mangler the moment my fine posterior hits the chair. Thank you Daniela for giving me what the co-workers will call the«Nice», instead of the«What happened to your» hair cut? Full salon services available. Most men’s haircuts: $ 13. Hours 10 – 7, Monday through Saturday, located in small 4 unit strip on west side of 43rd Ave, just south of Indian School, sandwiched between a GT Smoke Shop and Carniceria. Easy entry to and exit from parking lot. Though there are credit-card logos on the door left over from previous tenants twice-removed, they accept only cash at this time, but expect to be able to accept cards within a few weeks.(Will update.) All that and you can get your hair done in English or Spanish. Francisco provided occasional translation but Daniela seemed to know what to do and gave me a good haircut without a lot of chit-chat, which is good, because my Spanish is not worth a chit and our chat would have been very limited. All in all nice folks, a good haircut at good price, and I would return.
