Destination Maternity

I’m not quite sure why this place only gets 3 stars, but I had a good experience here! I went in on a Saturday afternoon ready to shop!!! My little bump is slowly expanding and I can’t fit my skinnies anymore, so I was on the hunt for at least 1 pair of skinny jeans, some tops and maybe even a dress if I could find one.
I walked in and was greeted right away and was asked if I needed help. When I said no, I was left alone to do my shopping. The sales girl offered me water, but I didn’t need any. I picked up a few things here and there and when my arms started to get full another girl came over to ask if I wanted a dressing room started, which I did. I took my time looking around, it was fun shopping for my bump.
Once I was ready to try my stuff on I did so and was offered water again, to which I still didn’t need any… Pregnant women have to pee often, so I didn’t need any bathroom breaks in my way of shopping!
I found several great pieces here! A pair of skinnies that were on sale for 50 bucks, a cute throw on summer dress and 3 cute tops. They also have bras and other little things, but I found what I was looking for and had a good shopping experience!
they are a little on the pricey side, so I wouldn’t look to this place for every piece of maternity clothing you’re going to buy, but you deserve a few key pieces and a good pair of jeans for your pregnancy to make you feel pretty :)

My baby is three months old, but the hassle continues. Returns are a nightmare
This review is primarily for the online store, but the retail store certainly didn’t help the situation. I bought a blazer online. It was way too small and I tried to send it back via the post office. The postal clerk said the Destination Maternity address didn’t exist. So I went back home to double check the address. It was correct.
That evening (seriously) my daughter arrived. Needless to say, I got busy and the return floated around in my car for a few weeks until I finally had time to drive 30 minutes to this store. The associate explained since I was beyond the return policy, I could only get store credit. That’s fine. I was beyond the time frame. But, come on. You cater to pregnant women (who are BUSY!) and you only offer a 30 day return?! Even Macy’s offers an anytime return.
So even though I had already given birth, I agreed to take the store credit. I figured I could buy lotion or a night shirt I didn’t need. Oh, but the store was out of gift cards so they couldn’t do a store credit either. What? I’m here. I’m willing to do store credit, but you can’t do it because you don’t have gift cards? Every other store in the world is able to do this sans gift card except Destination Maternity. Where am I? I may still have pregnancy brain, but I can still tell this is utterly ridiculous. Did you know gift cards are re-​loadable? So, if I worked at Destination Maternity, and I knew we were running low on gift cards, I would order my associates to keep the gift cards that are zeroed out and put in the trash to have some on hand. All the associate could tell me to do was go to another store. Cuz I’m not busy or anything.
I got home and threw the thing back in the mail with a supposed non-​deliverable address in the hope that it would go through. This all happened in mid-​October. In December it dawned on me that I never heard from DM. I called them, they said they got the return and credited my account. But, my credit card never reflected the credit. See, in my world «crediting your account» means issuing a refund to the credit card that was originally used in the transaction. In DM’s world it means «sending a check.» Where am I??? After I talk to their billing dept. or whatever they tell me they can’t tell if the check cleared. You can’t tell? Search for the check number and see if it was paid? Every other company is able to do this. I’m able to do this in my personal banking account, how is a national retailer unable to do this?
So the lady over the phone emails me an affidavit to request a new check. An affidavit. That requires a witness signature. For a $ 24 return. Am I the only one who finds this whole process ridiculous???
My advice moms-​to-​be, go to the maternity section of Macy’s where they are happy to grant returns and you can actually buy merchandise you will use after your pregnancy.
Ain’t nobody got time for this!!!

I’m pregnant so I come here. The clothing styles are outdated and yucky. Did end up buying just one dress. I do come often to buy the Basq products which I find to work wonderful.
They offer you GMO juice or water in a plastic bottle. Neither are things pregnant women should have.
The staff is always on the phone especially when you want to check out!

The Motherhood/​Destination Maternity line of stores are a must-​stop for mamas-​to-​be. Since we live in a generation that lovingly shows off our baby bumps instead of covering them up with smocks like our mother’s did, we gotta dress in style and in clothes that fit! For both needs, Destination Maternity has the goods.
I walked in and was given a quick tour by a helpful employee. He explained the differences in their main brands, pointed out the sale they had going on and what was included, and introduced me to someone in the undergarments section who could measure me. I browsed the store for a while, drooling over some of the super cute clothes. I finally selected a few shirts from the clearance rack, and although they were still pricey even on clearance, I ended up wearing those things for the remaining 6 months of my pregnancy and even after. The material and style fit well on a slim frame and stretch all the way through the third trimester! I was so impressed, and those shirts were a staple in my wardrobe. I dressed them up with a blazer and heels in the beginning, and went casual at the end by pairing them with yoga pants and flip-​flops. Worth every penny.

This is my first pregnancy, I visited destination maternity for the first time and was welcomed and offered a water or juice. I wasn’t ready to buy cloths yet because I was only 8 weeks pregnant at the time but the lady still toured me around and gave me info on the yoga classes and spa she also said whenever I am ready and need help picking out a few essentials as my body changes she would be more than happy to help me. I also bought some «preggy drops» to help with my morning sickness which I love! I will be back for sure :)

Came here just before it opened on Sunday. Upon opening the doors, the employee greeted us and offered juice or water. She then asked if I was looking for anything in particular. I needed to look for pretty much everything for work and after so she showed me where all the career items were. She occasionally came to check on me and helped make suggestions, as well as starting a fitting room for me. She was very pleasant while helping me, which I appreciated because of how lost I was lol.
Prices are crazy, even if they have coupons. Even worse is all the soft and comfy items were $ 100+ I understand why of course, but just adding to warnings of coming financially prepared. The prices we pay for comfort!!! Having kids is definitely an investment, so if I weren’t planning on having another one I wouldn’t have spent that much (and nothing I bought was over $ 100).

Boy these stores love killing the wallet of the pregnant lady! Why aren’t there more maternity stores in the Valley?! Luckily a place like Motherhood exists! Now, the clothes are not cheap. They have three sections and one of the sections has brand name clothing but you’ll pay for it. I suggest shopping elsewhere for basic t-​shirts and lounge clothes but come here for stylish clothes. I splurged on pants that have gotten me through pregnant so far and on some fashionable tops that are versatile. They do have cute clothes here so if you need something stylish, come here! They also have a great section for undergarments and they even have a salon that offers pre-​natal massages. All in all, it’s a great option for the mother to be but you’ll leave broke as a joke. However we are a captive audience!

Jermaine, the gm of the store, worked with us personally. We had online orders to return and walked us through the complicated process by which pea in the pod takes discounts. Definitely put the customer first as there were some complex sales, where he interpreted through the eyes of a consumer.

My shopping experience here was similar to that of a used car dealership. It was obvious from the time I walked in that the employees work on commission. Fine — no big deal. However, I draw the line when I’m reminded of it for the entirety of my visit by probing questions, random salespeople checking on me in my dressing room (guy that works there — I don’t feel comfortable talking to you while I’m changing,) and the pièce de résistance; as I’m checking out, our original sales associates said to the cashier, «You made sure to put my numbers in for her, right?»
Really? The clothing here is high end and pricey. I don’t expect that kind of behavior when I’m thinking about buying a $ 200 pair of jeans. The best thing this store did for me was have enough selection so I could figure out what I liked and order it somewhere else. Pathetic.

I first received a couple of clothing items from this store from my mom on my birthday. The location is close to my parents house and that is how I found out about them, through my mom.
One of the shirts she got me was a little small for me and so I made a trip out there one day to exchange.
Be warned, you will most likely end up with too many pieces and an empty wallet if you walk in there.
The sales person on the floor, although a very nice gentleman, will help you out and encourage you to buy some things you didn’t even know you needed. It’s like magic.
I originally went in to exchange that one shirt but ended up spending $ 200+ on so many other pieces, most of which he hang in my fitting room to try. On top of that they had a buy one get one 50% off dealgoing on, which you of course cannot say no to. So if you like one thing you better find something else to get ½ off. Before you know it you have spent way too much and there is no turning back.
Regardless of that, the store itself is very nice. They have divided the place by price range. I peaked into the $$$$ section and quickly walked out when I saw the first price tag.
At the register they offered me a free mini massage which I accepted but immediately regreted that I did. The lady was way too rough for my pregnant taste and not good advertising for their spa. I left in pain, hurting physically and financially.

I didn’t buy anything here but I thought the staff was very friendly and not pushy at all. He introduced himself and asked if I wanted a tour of the store which I declined but he still came by to check up on me after that. He wasn’t ever salesman-​y. I think it’s a combination of stores which others have mentioned. If you already have little ones, there’s also a little play area in the center of the room. Nice touch.

I absolutely love this store! My first experience was today and Karen helped me. I needed a pair of black slacks and she pulled out 8 pair in my size for me to try on. It was great! After my purchase she gave me tons of free goodies for the baby and a juice for the road. I highly recommend this place! Can’t wait to go back.

Their online store is a nightmare. They placed a $ 726 hold on my card for a $ 140 order because of how their billing and shipping works for orders that ship from multiple stores. I honestly thought my identity had been stolen. Then it took 4 phone calls and about an hour before we got a solid breakdown of the charges. If I could give less than 1 star I would. We will never purchase from this company again

I’ve spent way too much $$ at this Destination Maternity store as of late, but I’m grateful that it exists, as without them, I’d have nothing that fits this very pregnant belly of mine!
I was lucky enough to get by during my first pregnancy with a bunch of hand-​me-​downs from friends, a visit to a maternity boutique in Michigan that my mom took me to, a couple of online purchases (thanks
) and maybe just one visit to this DM. Unfortunately, most of those things were seasonal and wonderful for when I was super pregnant in the Summer. This time around, I’m super pregnant in the Winter, so what does that mean? Pretty much all new clothes!
Thank you Carrie and staff at this DM for all of your help these last couple of months. Thanks to you, I’ve purchased a ton of cute clothes including a formal dress, several sweaters, a couple of go-​to pairs of pants, leggings, long sleeve shirts (both casual and for work), a wonderful bra, some new underwear, and more! Whether you are looking for brand name designer labels (Splendid, BCBG, Joe’s Jeans, Jessica Simpson’s maternity line, etc…) or just something that fits, you’ll find pretty much anything you’re looking for here.
I’ve had to return a few things, and they’ve also been great about that… and the play area for toddlers comes in very handy too.
I haven’t used the spa, but I’ve heard good things about that as well.
Destination Maternity may be a chain, but it’s a wonderful one stop shop for all of your maternity /​nursing needs. Happy shopping prego friends!

I received a call from my wife who is nearly 10 months pregnant crying on the phone. She told me she was being stalked and had to get out of the store. She later told me she was being stalked by employees at destination maternity. She went there to purchase one thing, and before she could view the selection, the employee picked up the most expensive one (which was the one she did not want) and placed it by the cashier register for checkout. This made my wife feel as though she HAD to purchase the item. When trying on one thing, her fitting room was flooded with numerous things she did not want or need.
She ended up leaving without purchasing anything, due to the stress. She went home and purchased what she needed on Amazon for cheaper and free shipping. It appeared to her they most likely worked on commission. Although friendly and knowledgeable, the employees are obviously pressured to make sales and this burden is unfairly placed on the consumer.
No one should be stressed out when going shopping… especially when pregnant.

This was one of the most pleasant shopping experiences I’ve had since being pregnant. The service clerk was soo friendly and helped me find the perfect outfit for my baby shower. I was only in town for the weekend and she helped me with what was the perfect outfit, then piled me up with coupons to local stores and stores in my area in TX. I really loved working with her. Ask for Bernadette!

I’m sad to see all the negative reviews! I went on a Saturday afternoon a couple weeks ago and really enjoyed my experience. The staff was very friendly and helpful, but didn’t pressure me at all (I didn’t even know they had a spa!). One saleswoman in particular paid close attention to my style and price range and suggested several lovely outfits (I even bought one of the skirt/​shirt combos she suggested). I found everything I was looking for (a dress for an upcoming wedding) and way more.
My husband also really appreciated the seating area where he could watch the basketball game while I shopped (and I appreciated that he was less bored…). ;)
To address an earlier review, I generally wear a size 12 – 14 and had no problem finding plenty of clothes to try on (generally the L-​XL size at DM). However, warning: they had a very minimal selection if you wear larger than a 16 – 18 or so (oh, North Scottsdale…).
In sum, I really enjoyed my experience at DM, so please don’t let all the bad reviews scare you away. ;)

Went to DM a few weeks ago with my mom. I was kinda of excited… I mean… a WHOLE STORE dedicated to the preggos!?! Where can you go wrong?
I’ll tell you where you can go wrong… if you’re a plus size preggo. Forget it. For being a plus size gal, I’m very proportionate. And all of my weight has shifted. Where there wasn’t much of a tummy before with a small waist… HELLO BABY BUMP!
This stores Plus Size section is a joke. Here’s a rack about 5ft long, in total, for you to find clothes from. And forget about them being cute. I should have known MY clothes selection would be anorexic especially seeing the location — N. Scottsdale (haha…that was kinda funny… anorexic…n.scottsdale…teehee). Anywho.
Can you say — Catering to the demographics? All together now…
The only positive thing to come about was Edamame Spa — The spa place tucked in the corner. Found out lots of information on what to use on my skin and about getting prenatal massages.

I was driving around with my 5 month old who was getting cranky. So I thought she might want to nurse. I pulled over and was excited to see a maternity store. I asked the sales woman if I could nurse in the fitting room. She said she had to ask the manager who said I was welcomed to nurse in the chairs on the show room floor IF I had my cover up. They said I couldn’t use the fitting room because they might have to kick me out if other people needed it to try on clothes. I take issue with this because:
1. There was only one other shopper in the store and ALL of the fitting rooms were empty. It was not bloody well likely that all the fitting rooms would suddenly become occupied.
2. This is a store for women who are becoming mothers. What? They only care about pregnant moms, not moms that have already given birth?
3. Arizona law allows me to breast feed anywhere I am allowed to be legally without requiring me to have a cover up.
4. I have ALWAYS been welcomed to nurse my baby in fitting rooms at places like White House Black Market and Target. But not at this place specifically for MOTHERS? Oh wait, it is for mothers to be. Once you become a mother you are on your own.

This location is at Chauncey Ranch, just south of the 101, in the new Whole Foods plaza. It has not only the Destination Maternity, it has a higher end Mimi Maternity and luxury brand Pea in the Pod at the same location, along with an Edamame Spa.
With that out of the way — I REALLY wanted to like this place. I went to the old location at Desert Ridge and was pleased with the low cost, big selection and service. The atmosphere was laid back and casual.
Unfortunately, at this location, you will be immediately attacked by salespeople at every turn. In my first visit, I was stopped at least seven or eight times by people asking if I wanted help or wanted to visit the spa. Since it was close to the grand opening, I let it go at overzealousness. However, a few months later I got the same experience. I appreciate the helpfulness, and I understand what it’s like to work on commission, but they stick to you like white on rice and make the experience really annoying. I’ve started either shopping at their online store, visiting other locations or going to different stores. Other than that, the prices are pretty OK as long as you stick to the clearance section at Destination — the other two places are ridiculously priced considering how long you WON’T be wearing the clothes.
