Camelback Health Care

I have gone to this office for almost three years and always had a positive experience until just recently. I am giving them 1 star because of their cancellation policy. I called in March when I had a horrible flu and made an appointment for the next day. When I called I asked, «If I feel better tomorrow can I call and cancel the appointment?» and was told that would be fine. I left a voicemail first thing the next morning that I was canceling the appointment, then received a call later that day that I had been a «no show» and this would be marked on my file. I called back and spoke to someone that said it was a misunderstanding and that the note would be removed from my file.
I just called to make an appointment for tomorrow and was told that because I had been a «no show» I had to pay a nonrefundable $ 35 fee to book an appointment. I told her the situation and she said that they considered cancellations within 24 hours of the appointment time a «no show» as well.
I did not keep my appointment out of principle– I have never been late or missed an appointment before and feel I deserved one warning (I had no idea they had this policy!) — and also because I think $ 35 is unreasonable. I am a teacher that does her best to conserve money and having to pay $ 35 for nothing means I have to find a new doctor.
I recommended this office to friends before and their opinion was this office is just looking for money. When you walk in they are advertising skin care products, weight loss services, and aesthetic services which are all very expensive.
Erin and a lot of the staff are great, but sadly I won’t be back.

Zero stars actually. I just called in to have my asthma inhaler refilled as I had misplaced it. I called in early in the morning was told it would not be a problem. I never heard back so at 3:15 I called again. After sitting on hold for 15 minutes the office manager picked up and gave me a very hard time about this saying that they may not get this out today. But she will call me with an update and told me I should go to an urgent care if I need my inhaler. What the heck is the point of having you as my Doctor if I have to go to an urgent care. How about do your job lady!!! Well you guessed it. No call back and now I have to go through a weekend with no inhaler. Oh and this office bribes people with a $ 30.00 incentive for positive reviews pretty pathetic, that they still have more poor reviews.

From the first call; I was greeted with professionalism & helpful knowledge to my questions before deciding to make this office my PCP w/​my insurance. Their name & website displays they are into pro-​active & preventive ‘Complete Care for your Well-​Being’.
It’s great that they are up to date with modern technology in a helpful way: great website content with healthy living articles & links to make your experience at their office more fluid, text & email reminders of appointment, immediate follow-​up to meds questions w/​my pharmacy, specialists referrals to help me further & etc.
The office is located straight back from main entrance of business building. They have many diverse services available to their patients/​clientele.
The staff have been warm, personable, professional, helpful with surprisingly fast follow-​up & keeping me informed: from the front desk (Ariel & Lanae) to my nurse practitioner (Jena) & her ass’t (Kaity) to Nichelle (referrals). All have been great in not creating additional stress to my well-​being. Truly making me feel that I am a person not just a file. Thank you.

I would not recommend this place. While the office is asthetically pleasing, they really are there strictly for profit. I signed documents saying that they can provide results within a voicemail for my annual pap, but they called shortly after saying I needed to come in for a follow up to go over the results. They said the nurses «do not take phone calls», so I had to fork out $$ just for a 5 minute appointment that could have totally been explained in a 30 second phone call. I WILL NOT be coming back and I highly recommend you to find someone else to see.
Their bedside manner sucks too. Just don’t waste your money here.

«Do no harm» is an oath medical personnel take, but it certainly doesn’t apply to the care providers here. Dr. Anne Marie Reed used to own an office that took their time and listened to you, but now they don’t even care.
In January I went in to have them check out a mild inflammation in my ears and eyes. The Nurse Practitioner prescribed Clobestasol Propionate. I reviewed the side-​effects online and found out it was an extremely strong corticosteroid. Thinking it was more than what I needed, I contacted a dermatologist for a second opinion. When I told him what I had it prescribed for he said he was shocked it would have ever been prescribed for my condition, and he certainly wouldn’t have prescribed it himself.
The medication website clearly states, «should not be used on the face», which is one of the areas I advised the NP I was having inflammation.
I called the office and the Office Manager apologized, then advised she would give me an office credit of $ 50. I thought this seemed reasonable as I had paid just over $ 50 for this medicine.
Amazingly a week later she stated she couldn’t do this and felt the NP had prescribed the medicine properly. I advised her I would be contacting the state medical board. Like others who’ve complained, I received a nice form letter stating they would no longer be my Primary Care office.
I’m not suing or want anything, I wasn’t harmed because I did my homework and didn’t take the medicine they prescribed, but I want others to know about their horrible practice.
All they really care about is profit — not customer care.
I’ve filed a complaint with the AZ Medical Board.

I agree with another reviewer who called this business manipulative & exploitative.
They tried to charge me $ 92 for an office visit because I haven’t met my deductible… then blamed it on healthcare reform &
— But I’m insured and have been my whole life, never used government healthcare. After a discussion with my insurance company, there’s no discernible reason I would need to have met my deductible before office visits are covered…
They said they needed my picture just in case someone tried to steal my identity… (why would someone steal your identity to go to the doctor? And shouldn’t my driver’s license be enough verification?)
Bottom line: By the time I actually got to see Dr. Saunders, I didn’t trust her or anyone else in that office or the integrity of their practices and policies. On a positive note: The money that they bully & bamboozle out of their patients goes towards creating a really beautiful office. Very comfortable chairs.

This place used to be better. The people here look confused about how the computers/​printers work. We got a new employee who was an hour late. Her excuse is that she is new. Most of the people in the waiting room seemed annoyed with the service.

As a healthcare provider (RN/​BSN) who has worked in five different hospitals across the United States (VA, CO, and AZ), I would vehemently recommend avoiding this For-​Profit practice at all cost. If you are not interested in reading the details to follow, here is my main point: they use emotional manipulation and mind games to exploit worried patients.
If you are interested in details, here goes… I went into Camelback Health Care for my annual gyn appointment. They performed an STD blood test and a pap smear. They called me a few days later and told me that they would recommend a follow up appointment, but could not tell me whether I had abnormal or normal results (I realize some people believe this is a HIPAA issue, but it wasn’t as I signed waivers allowing detailed info over the phone). I told them I am not interested in coming in if my results are normal, yet they still wouldn’t tell me.
Fast forward after a few more phone calls and me finally requesting to speak with a manager. After getting a bit more adamant and explaining that I got tested for all sorts of STDs, including HIV, and I am very concerned about my health, she told me that my STD test was completely normal, but could not confirm or deny that my pap was normal. I told her I will not be scheduling a follow up appointment until I get my pap results.
Fast forward a week, they called and told me that my pap was abnormal, but wouldn’t tell me what type of abnormality I had. I told them that I am a nurse and I would like to know more details. Finally, I went in to the clinic and demanded my lab results, which they did print out for me without a fuss (although on the phone they told me that they wouldn’t).
My personal opinion is that they are using these tactics, knowing full well that vast majority of patients will be scared and will come in and spend more money on follow up appointments. I will be taking my lab results to a new healthcare provider and ask them for their opinion. I won’t be donating another dime to Camelback Health Care.

I do NOT recommend this place… I went in just to get a shot and have seek some counsel regarding my acne. Well the doctor decides to run over $ 1,000 worth of tests, $ 274 of which I’m still paying for! I understand she may not know right off the bat what my insurance covers. Fair. So for my next appointment, I ask them if they could check what my insurance will cover for my well woman exam. Then they tell me I need to call my insurance and find that out. Because I obviously look like a doctor and know what kind of tests they run for something like that. Yeah, ok. I cancelled my appointment and I will not be going back. If you do end up going, make sure you read the fine print, they have some pretty sketchy contract guidelines…

Lovely office. Actually quiet and never a long wait
The MA that takes your vitals could use an improvement in her bedside manner. The midlevel practitioners I’ve seen have been friendly and quick to get to the point. I have had issues with getting messages through, but that’s something that happens at almost every clinic.

What a refreshing experience. This was my first time at Camelback Health Care, and it was probably one of my best doctor appt. experiences to date. The ladies that checked me in were super nice and quick. They welcomed me as a new patient, offered water, so not what I am used to (sadly). I was in my appointment exactly on time if not a couple minutes early. The lady that took my blood pressure and weight was so nice and personable, not to mention quick and officiant. Then once in the room I only waited maybe 2 minutes for the nurse practitioner to come in, who was also very nice and personable. She genuinely cared about my well being. I was super excited to find out they do women’s wellness there as well. I made an appointment to come back next month and I hope this will now be a one stop shop for me. I really loved this place!

I had an appointment last Friday at 3 pm. I show up at 245 and get called back to do vitals and such. The lady who called me back didn’t greet me or anything. She seemed really unfriendly. That was the first bad sign. They put us in a room at 255 and at 347 my husband goes to ask if they forgot about us because no one has come in to see us yet. We wait until 4 pm (an hour later then our appointment) when the dr shows up. She comes in and doesn’t introduce herself just says are you trying to be pregnant and we answe yes she says well sorry your not! She then starts asking questions and just shouts out that I need to lose weight. Seemed rude just to randomly say and not give advice or anything for the comment. They did blood work and told me results would be ready Monday and they would call. I called Tuesday and results aren’t in. I then called Wednesday at 12 and still no results. Their response was blood work can take 10 – 12 days to get back and they would call me when it’s ready! I do t recommend this office!
****update**** it’s been 7 days and I still have no results!

I wish I could give this place no stars. I was 3 minutes late to my appointment and they told me they couldn’t take me anymore; the doctor had to «move on». I AM NOT FEELING WELL OBVIOUSLY THE POINT OF MY VISIT. It’s hard enough being a 21 year old self conscious female to work the courage to make a doctors appointment over personal issues but then to be not only turned down of my medical needs but also humiliated. The lady behind the desk even felt remorse for me because she KNOWS how fucked up that is. I AM IN NEED OF MEDICAL ATTENTION AND THEY DENIED ME FOR BEING 3 MINUTES LATE FUCK THIS PLACE

I don’t get all these 1 star reviews. I really don’t. This place is by far the best dr/​obgyn ive ever been to. There is never a wait. Erin the NP is the best best best. She is easy, non-​judgemental, funny and knowledgable. I always go here for my annual and any other time I may get sick. It’s also easy to make an appointment on zoc doc. Just awesome.

Do not recommend!!! I called to let them know I was running late because I was coming in from Happy Valley. The receptionist said it was fine but once I arrived she said they could not see me and that I «should’ve called» I explained that I did and she said okay well I’ll ask the nurse which is my provider and she also refused to see me! It was really an inconvenience for me because I drove really far, I finally had availability to see my provider, and now I have to find a doctor to start fresh because I feel uncomfortable going back to them!

Sent here for a test. Treated well. Staff was nice and I didn’t wait too long. They gave me good news. So no problem.

This practice does NOT care about their patients. I had a mistreatment occur during a routine office visit. They were negligent and failed to follow up with me after the incident. Instead they sent me a certified letter dropping me as a patient. I do NOT recommend anyone selecting them as a pcp!

I recently had to look for a new PCP and was recommended to this office by a coworker. I have to say, I absolutely love them!
They got me in super quickly and were so nice! I saw one of their nurse practitioners and I was able to get established, get back on medication from years prior and get blood work done all in just a few minutes.
I am the kind of person that hates going to the doctor and they made it super easy. I was able to do everything I needed to all in one office and being a single mom, it’s important to me that people value my time and use it wisely. Super impressed!!!

It saddens me to write this review. I started to going to Camelback Health Care when they first broke out on their own – they had an office on 40^th St. around the corner from where they are now. In the early years – the office was clearly patient focus. there was even one occasion when Dr. Reed called me after hours to check on me. I thought that this was going to be my health care home for a long time. Unfortunately things changed. They moved onto Camelback into a much more expensive office and started offering botox, juviderm, etc. Initially I didn’t think much about that – I actually thought how cool – they have established a cash flow to support the practice – so those who are providing primary care can really focus on that. How wrong – over several years things have deteriorated. It is not about the actual health care which is okay – it is about the patient/​physician relationship and the staff at the office. the tenor of the office is one of the fact that they have forgotten who pays the bill. In my case that is mostly me because of high deductible insurance. I have seen the front office treat other patients terribly including me. Now with your appointment the eyes are focused on the electronic health record and not building patient rapport – I had taken to making notes so I could get everything covered in my 15 minutes. One of the things that they have really let go of is managing patient expectations. i had several occasions where I made appointments with specific needs only to get there to find out that what I had scheduled for could not be accommodated. If the folks on the phone had provided better information, perhaps I would not have been so frustrated. – Clearly they have no respect for the patient ‘s time.
I am not naïve about the nature of health care today. In fact I manage a case management program that helps keep patients informed about the care they are getting – we are successful because we treat our patients with a great deal of respect and we keep them informed about what to expect. Camelback Health Care has lost all of that caring environment that was so evident – When I would go, all I could see is get on with-don’t bother us with your concerns because we need to make our quota of patients so we can bill, bill, bill!
I wrote two snail mail letters over the past three years to the office – there was no response to the first one and for the second one I got a CYA letter that I had voluntarily terminated from them and to call 911 if I had an emergency. It pains me to have switch physicians — even now – I think if someone had reached out to me to discuss my issues that I would not have terminated the relationship. Clearly though there was no concern that a patient was leaving under a negative situation.
I know the world of health care is changing – but I think through my experience – there can be a balance for the need for the physician to produce in order to encounter and get paid and still have some concern about what is really going on with the patient.
I knew I had made the right decision today when I walked in to get my medical record. there are now blue flyers on the counter that gives patients a whopping $ 30 incentive if the patient posts a positive review at a variety of websites including Unilocal.The flyer ends with a statement that feedback helps them provide better service and keeps them viable and ends with «we love out patients». The fact that the office is now offering incentives concerning reviews speaks volumes to me.
I for one felt that love a long time ago, but the love has been replaced with a production oriented medical office. If you want to be a part of a production line –this place is for you – the health care will be fine – but if you actually want a health care home and a meaningful relationship with your primary care provider – for me at least Camelback Health Care is no longer that place.

I can’t speak to any of the other medical services, but the medically supervised weight loss program is TOP NOTCH.
Dr. Brandon Kim is the absolute best! He’s helped me lose 37 pounds in just 3 months on Ideal Protein — best of all, I learned to lose it the HEALTHY WAY, without starving myself, back-​breaking exercise, invasive surgery, or dangerous narcotics. I went from a size 16 to a size 8, and I will reach my goal in (hopefully) less than two months!
