C & R Tires

C & R Tire was close to us, had great reviews, and had a great coupon. My wife’s Saturn needed an oil change so I found a coupon for first time customers and sent her here. During the oil change it became apparent that a new battery was needed. So the wife calls while I’m at work asking if they can replace it at a cost of $ 256.12. Now, we have a Saturn Vue Hybrid, so the first question I asked was if it was the hybrid battery due to the seemingly high cost. She assured me it was not and that the bill was divided as follows: $ 87 for the battery and $ 130 for the labor with the rest of the cost composed of taxes and fees. Again, that is $ 130 for the labor to install a battery! A regular 12v car battery! A service that Autozone and O’Reilly’s typically do for free.
They told her that because it is a hybrid there was a lot more labor involved due to the extra wiring placed on top of the battery. He also said the battery was a bottom shelf model that was of poor quality. Luckily the battery had enough juice in it to start the car once more and get out of the shop in order to get a second opinion. When I arrived home to check under the hood it did appear that the battery was under a good amount of plastic and wiring. Upon further inspection the plastic part pops right off. It’s simply there for aesthetic purposes as is the case with most newer engine compartments. There were some wires and other electrical connections on the battery.
Fortunately, one of my clients from my job operates a garage the specializes in GM vehicles. I asked him for his opinion and he said the cost we were quoted regarding the labor seemed pretty high. He explained to me that almost every auto garage and dealership out there use a particular computer program to asses how many service hours any given repair takes after inputting make, model, part that needs replacing, etc. This explains how, after diagnosing the problem, a service center is able to give you a quote on the repair with labor included before they even start the work. Well, he said that the computer program said that replacing the battery is a ½ hour service. So a dealer/​service center should charge .5 their hourly labor rate in addition to the cost of the battery. In his case he would charge $ 43.50 to install the battery as his labor rate is $ 77/​hr.
Now, C & R Tire might not use this model to asses the cost of their work, but if they did that would mean that they charge $ 260/​hr service. That is almost twice as much as the dealerships charge! Obviously, I took the Vue to his shop to have a new battery installed. They installed it with an AC Delco battery that is authorized by GM and has a great warranty. Guess what the old battery was? An AC Delco that survived nearly 5 Arizona summers before it finally crapped out. Not the piece of crap the C & R said was in there. The tech at the new place also explained to me that I could have easily done the battery replacement at home as all the wiring on top of the battery was attached to a plate that was held in place by three bolts. Not quite the labor intensive job that C & R made it out to be.
It appears that at the end of the day the C & R Tire on Cave Creek Rd was simply pulling an old garage trick by trying to profit off a customer’s ignorance. I respect every business’s right to make money for the work that they do but this was nothing more than taking advantage of the trust that many customers put into places like this because they lack the resources, knowledge, or ability to do the work themselves. Shame on you, C & R Tire!

I visited the 17 434 N Cave Creek location to have a tire replaced. I’ve always had a wonderful experience with C & R I take all 3 of my vehicles here for maintenance, well I guess this morning 04÷22÷15 customer service is a thing of the past. Granted I arrived about 10 minutes before opening no worries totally ok with waiting, the door was open so I walked in and sat down. As I watch several employees arrive to work and walk pass me no one bother to speak or asked if I been helped including the so called «manager» who walked right passed me to go make his morning coffee. It wasn’t until Rick arrived that I had even been acknowledged, Rick was able to help me and get me in and out. He apologized for the wait excellent customer service from Rick. I explained to Rick (while the manager sat in his office clearly able to hear me) that I was a little distraught by the fact no one wanted to help and that I’m not sure if I felt comfortable enough to continue to come up here the manager Brian I’m assuming still didn’t lift a finger or even acknowledge my words of concern. This lack of customer enganment is not normal I will definitely be going to a different location or possibly taking my business else where.

My husband brought our car into C&R about three weeks ago. We asked for an oil change and mentioned our check engine light had been coming on and also asked for a full inspection. When they called us to tell us what was needed my husband walked over to talk in person since we live super close. We needed a premium oil change because there was oil gunk that needed to be removed, timing belt was going bad, our spark plugs needed changed, new back tires, and we had a cracked radiator. We were told see you Monday and our bill would be (gulp) $ 2000. Thankfully I just got a new job that gave me more than 12 hours a week and we just got our taxes too.
Anyways Monday comes and thankfully I had the day off. I had to call them around 430 because I hadn’t heard anything yet. I was told that they received a damaged radiator and had to order a new one, but still hoping they could finish the car by end of business. At 545 I get a call that the courier was stuck in traffic and they wouldn’t be able to finish our car until Tuesday morning. I was assured this time that part was in good condition AND correct…
Tuesday: the part isn’t in!!? Where is this courier coming from? Is he still stuck in traffic? Or is this actually just a line I was fed? My husband has to go to work and we need our car for him to go! When they finally call they tell him that the part that came in is wrong and the hoses do not match up, but don’t worry it’s only going to cost you another $ 200.
So now my husband has to call in since we have no one to take him to work, c&r doesn’t offer rentals or to take him to get one, and a bus is out of the question.
Wednesday: finally our car is ready! Yay! Everything looks great, sorry we took so long, and this car will give you at least another 100,000 miles…
Since that day our check engine light has come on AGAIN! We called c&r and are told that they have another idea of what the actual issue might «really be» and to go ahead and bring it in, not to worry this should only cost $ 100, or so…
Our power steering belt came loose… they did fix that for free (that’s the 1 star)
Oh and our car died last weekend!

I’ve had a positive experience with them. I have an old car. A 1997 Honda Civic. It’s got issues — any car that old will. And when they inspected the car, sure enough, they found plenty of things that needed fixing.
But here’s where they stand apart from many other places I’ve been to. I was able to talk with them about what’s important and urgent to be fixed… and not be pressured to do anything. They told me what they found, and let me decide what, if anything, I wanted to take care of at that time. Other places will put so much pressure to make a sale. These guys simply helped me make an informed decision.
I also got my tires through them, which includes free rotations. I came in today for an oil change and asked to rotate my tires at the same time. They’ve got other deals that include free maintenance and other deals, when you purchase from them.
The staff I’ve dealt with have always been friendly. Mike in particular is a great guy. He’s friendly, informative, and makes you feel welcome. He even offered me a bottle of water while I waited in the lobby.
I noticed they offer free WiFi in their lobby too. I used it to help pass the time on my smartphone while my car got worked on. It’s little things like that that set them apart from the competition.
Some reviews here complain about expensive repairs or bad service. That’s never been my experience. I have never felt pressured, cheated, lied to, or manipulated by these guys at all. Finding an honest auto mechanic is hard. These guys are thorough, yes, and I’m sure they’ll find all sorts of issues that can and/​or should be repaired at some point — especially when your car’s old. But there’s never been any pressure or exaggerations or deceit on their part. You can tell them you’re on a budget, and talk about what (if anything) needs to be taken care of immediately, and what can wait until later. They might even be able to dig up a coupon for you, to help you out.
I’ve always received good service from them. They review my invoice before charging me. If during a repair it looks like service will cost more than the original estimate, they’ll let me know first. I have absolutely no complaints about these guys. I’ve dealt with shady and scammy/​high pressure mechanics before. But the people at C & R Tires have been honest, straightforward, and sincere as far as I can tell. If you’re looking for a mechanic near you, give these guys a try. They’re one of the good ones.

I like the service the tech did. I did get the bait and switch on the pricing. Told me one price then billed a higher one. They told me they said the higher price on the verbal quote. Then they didn’t give me the advertised special price. I complained and They gave me a coupon for a free oil change. I figured that’s fair. I got home started putting my paperwork away and realized the coupon was for first time customers only.
This is really my fault. When he told me the final price, I thought it was high. He went right to taking the payment and did not review the bill with me first. If you go there for service, ask for a written quote and then review the bill before paying.

Been coming here for 20 years. Owners have always hired great people. Honest shop. Never been disappointed.

Saved me money tons of times when I bring my car in and it doesn’t need the parts I think that it needs. Very honest shop and awesome people. Brought my car in many times and never had a bad experience.

Really bad serivce getting my oil changed recently. I called prior to dropping my car off for an oil change and I asked if I needed an appointment. The person on the phone so no not if you leave the car no appointment needed. I get there and the person at the counter says I need an appointment. This got me so mad and frustrated. They did take my car after much complaining. And then it was a hassle to pick up my car. Only one person at the counter. Took 15 mins to check out. Come on its Sunday I need to go back home and watch my football game. Even tho this place is a mile fr my house. I won’t return. Bad service.

Scott runs a great shop and does what he says. He doesn’t try to sell you things you don’t need and thoroughly explains the options available. I have been a customer of the Tatum location for about 14 years and several vehicles but have found this Cave Creek location to be a little better. It’s worth driving the extra distance to me to come here specifically to work with Scott and his team.

The manager Scott is super helpful. You can tell he knows his car repairs. I take all three of my cars here. Honest and affordable. Doesn’t force any repairs on you, gives you estimates on how much time you have left before the repair is needed. Hard to find a good mechanic you can trust, but I trust the guys at C & R tire.

do not go here, they rip you off. not even funny. took my old car in there awhile back and my clutch went out because it would go into gear so they replaced the clutch, about 2 weeks goes by and the same thing started happening, I took it back in they said my engine and tranny were coming apart and was missing the bolts… hmmmmmm, so they didnt notice that before? or did they do this on purpose I willnever ever trust this place, also they wanted another 1200 dollars at that time, bunch of scammers.

Just got back from having 2 front tires mounted & balenced. C & R is a new installer for
, which I ordered my tires from. Prices were exactly what was listed on TireRack. Scott was great to deal with, and as it turns out I will bypass Tirerack when I get my other pair of tire’s as C & R can beat the price ! I had an issue from a couple of years ago, just as he had started managing the store, that I expained to him and he actually listened and assured me that many changes have been made. I have played with cars for 40+ yrs and had my own shop for a couple years, so I can pick out BS pretty fast. I have been outright lied to at one time or another from 3 different places over the past few years in the Valley. from now on I will be going to C&R for any work I can’t/don’t want to do on my own from now on.

This place… Oh man… I dont write many reviews but thought I needed to write one about this place. Only because my roommate (female as well) had the same issues with these guys.
A few months ago I took my car in because It was making a loud sound. And I needed two new tires…
I brought my car in at 7am. They told me it would be done around noon to 1pm (Lies) I walked home… I called at 1. I talked to two different people before I could figure out what needed to be done to my car and when I could get it back. They told me it was my left ball barring that was making noise and that it had been worn down so much and it was something that I needed to get done ASAP. They gave me my estimate. They said they would call me back when it was ready. I ended up calling out of work. Finally around 4 I was getting fed up. Headed down there (by foot) My car was still not done. About 530 it was «done» I went up and those guys gave me a bill for over 900 $! Way above the estimate they gave me! You gotta be kidding! They charged me for things they didn’t even ASK me if I wanted to be replaced. Come on. New windshield wipers?! In the fall?! It doesn’t even rain here in AZ!!! Air filter? (Put my old one back in!!!) They tacked on other charges that no one had even talked to me about. (oh but they were «nice“and gave me the windshield wipers for «free». In the end. Yea OK!) just wait for it… ON TOP of that the guy who «fixed» my car told me I still might here some road noise because my new tires need to be broken in (wtf? New tires should have zero road noise.) I got in my car and it was till loud as before… a bunch of b.s. I would have taken my car back but when I opened my glove compartment the next day my car manual packet had been opened and thrown back in all disorganized. Did they even know what they were doing??? Took my car to Toyota eventually and needed my right ball barring replaced (they did it for free).
My roommate just had the same thing happen to her at C&R Tire… I do NOT recommend getting anything done on your car here.
These types of places are scams. They wheel you in (no pun intended) tell you your car is broken then you have no choice but to just get it fixed right?

Great service, great people! They don’t yank you chain and try to sell you what you don’t need. The family style approach goes a long way. All the guys there are awesome!
