«Nora Volkow, Director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse, states successfully treating addiction will require a combination of behavioral and cognitive counseling with the prescription of multiple medicines tailored to the phase of recovery and targeting both the light and dark sides of dependence.» Wall Street Journal 12/24/2013

Assisted Recovery utilzes Medication Assisted Treatment in combination with cognitive therapy. Assisted Recovery addresses the Biological, Psychological and Social components of the recovery process. We are a pioneer in the use of anti alcohol medications, for example naltrexone. Assisted Recovery utilizes suboxone for opiate detox and the opiate antagonist Vivitrol, which blocks all opiate activity in the brain.

History

Established in 1997.

Assisted Recovery was the first program in the US to adopt the research and work of the University of Pennsylvania and in particular Dr. Joseph Volpicelli, MD, PhD. Dependence on alcohol and drugs is viewed as an acute disorder of the pleasure center of the brain. In this model, dependence is treated as a biological, psychological and social condition rather than as a lack of character or as a spiritual disease.

Assisted Recovery is a recognized leader in the use of Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT). We pioneered the use of naltrexone and other medications in an outpatient environment.

We have had the previlege to help people from all walks of life; from a CEO of a Fortune 500 company to a struggling student.
