Arvin Prasad Sewing Shop & Alterations

Uuuuummmm. Let’s just say I am never going back to this tailor for anything. He was recommended to me by a co-​worker, who, I shall question from now on. Worst. Tailor. Ever. I should have known since he asks you to pay up front first before anything gets done– that’s never a good sign. He is also expensive for the quality of work you get.
I brought two of my husband’s designer jeans to him, one of which was brand new, both of which needed hemming, and I asked him if he knew how to do original hems on jeans, to which the tailor replied «yes, yes, it’s very easy.» Apparently not that easy for him, because we got it back 1 – 2 weeks later and they looked horrible– you could see where he cut the material and stitched the hem which was crooked and not seamless. I probably could have done as good of a job and I suck at sewing. No point in arguing with him, money was already paid.
I also took some indian outfits to him to have alterations done and thought that maybe he would do a good job since he was indian and would be familiar with the material and styles. These were also done poorly. He did manage to fix my skirt so that it would fit a little better. However, the top that went with the skirt was no better fitting than before I brought it to him. He can do very simple things like hem up an unlined dress pant and blouse, but I can do that myself, but thought since I was bringing in other things I might as well have that done too.
In the end, I brought most of these same clothes to another tailor to fix his mistakes, Tailoring by Joanna, next to Scottsdale Fashion Square (a bit further for me to travel, but worth it to find a tailor that knows what she’s doing). She fixed my husband’s jeans with nice original hems and she’s cheaper too! I am also having her fix my indian outfit.
In my opinion, Arvin Prasad is overpriced and not worth the time and money for substandard tailoring, even if it is conveniently located in the Desert Ridge Plaza. Stay away if you have complicated tailoring. He is okay for simple alterations.
