My kid and I visited WSC today and I single handedly debunked the theory that being a good roller skater makes one a good ice skater. Although the kid is a good roller blader and a good ice skater too(1 out of two of us ain’t bad), I seriously needed one of the helmets I saw the little kids wearing. Anyway, WSC is a nice indoor ice rink. It costs $ 9 for admission $ 1 for a temporary membership card and $ 3 for skates. We paid $ 26 for two. Some of the skates look better than others; a few pairs of skates have seen better days that’s for sure but the staff do not mind if you ask to switch. The facility is pretty basic with a couple of party rooms(that double as locker rooms), snack bar, pro shop and skate rental. My son had his birthday party here. It was a no frills party meaning they show you where the party room is and check in again when it’s time to pay. We decorated the party room ourselves and brought in desserts(it had to be a dessert party at the only time they offer, 8 pm). The party was a blast and pretty painless on my wallet compared to other venues. I didn’t have to pay for 2 of his guests because they were taking classes prior to the party and automatically welcome to skate at the public skate for free(let me just say that those girls are excellent skaters). The snack bar has a good selection of pretzels, candy, drinks and pizza. We had a pretty good time at the MLK day afternoon skate, which was a bit crowded. Public sessions are normally Friday nights 8:30 — 10:30. Friendly staff and clean facilities make WSC a solid 4⁄5 ice rink.

The ice rink has the best ice in the area and that’s because the staff cares. The pro shop also offers consistently excellent skate sharpenings. There’s public hockey on Saturday nights, public skating on Fridays and the zaniest men’s league each spring.
