The Whirly Pig

Stood in line for ten minutes to be told the person in front of me was the last customer – 3 hours before they were scheduled to close.

I waited in line an hour and 15 minutes at The Promenade in Marlton, NJ, expecting this to be the food experience of a lifetime. There was hardly any meat on the sandwich, which was dry and the mac & cheese was WARM, at best. After all that time in line, the LEAST I expected was hot food. Their entire operation seemed extremely unorganized. All the reviews I read were great — maybe they’re better in other places but today was NOT a very good performance.

«The Simple Man» and the black bean chili were both super delicious. The pulled pork tasted very fresh, cooked to perfection. The toasted bun added to the flavor in just the right way. The black bean chili in a tortilla shell was nice. Nice chunks of meat, beans were great, and the dollop of sour cream with cheese topped it off. Only complaint is the chili could’ve been warmed up a little more. The have a small menu, not really for the picky.

My husband and I were at a food truck festival that The Whirly Pig was at, and I saw two men walk away from their truck with their fried mashed potatoes in hand and knew that needed to be in my future.
We got in line and were pleased that the wait wasn’t long at all.
We got 3 balls of fried mashed potatoes the size of a medium meatball for $ 8. The mashed potatoes were served with a drizzle of a sauce and I believe chives were on it as well. We grabbed a fork and dug in and we were not disappointed!
The breading was great and the potatoes were moist and flavorful.
I would happily eat many, many more of these!

Good pork sandwiches, the power wrap was fresh and summery, and the swine had delicious pork belly, but both sandwiches felt slightly incomplete. The power wrap might have benefited from cheese or ranch. The swine needed more counter-​texture, like a crunchy roll or crispy lettuce.

Got their potato wedges. Sauce was super yummy but I was a little disappointed at the amount you get. Thought it would be more like a French fries platter. But all in all, super tasty.

The Whirly Pig Truck showed up at the Malvern Blooms Festival. I shared a sandwich called the Whole Hog with friend. 6 primal cuts cooked separately and then chopped together on a sandwich with a green apple slaw and pickles. I could identify the cuts when lifted the lid. Great flavor and a well balanced, well constructed sandwich. I would not hesitate to order that again. Perfect!

The Whirly Pig catered a party that I attended and the food was phenomenal. The Whole Hog sandwich, mac and cheese with bacon, beans and fries were amazing. The rolls used. l the house-​made ketchup and bbq sauce were both excellent. I highly recommend the Whirly Pig if you love pork or just enjoy fantastic food :)

Just had the pork belly sandwich… Delicious!!! Best pork belly I’ve ever had. The ingredients were really fresh and everything was cooked really nice. Best food truck I’ve eaten at in along time.

One of the best pieces of pig sandwiches I’ve ever had. From a very cold and blustery day I ventured to the City Hall Courtyard and was thankful there was only one person in line who got an awesome looking chili in a bread bowl. I was tempted to go the Cubano, but since this was my first time at this truck, I went with their signature sandwich, the Hog. Onion brioche bun, chunks of very flavorful meat (including some «burnt» ends!) apple slivers (?), and a nice slice of bacon with their homemade BBQ sauce was so good. I also got a side of beans, but I was not a fan of them as they were too sweet and not enough BBQ/​meat in there.
Service was very friendly, and I have to find this food truck when it’s in my area again. Well worth the $ 8 sandwich.

We stopped by here during the Chinatown Food Truck Fest, and it was the best food we had all night. The line was one of the longest of the fest, but they moved through really efficiently. When it was finally our turn, we got The Hog and The Smoked Duck, and both were fantastic
The Hog contained peppered tender pork as the base with a crisp apple slaw for some nice crunchy contrast. It was also topped with fresh pickles for a little sour tang and one slice of thick-​cut bacon. I wish the bacon was a little crispier as it was more of a soggy piece of meat, but hey, it was bacon, so it was still pretty good. The housemade barbeque sauce was also a nice treat and made it a pretty good pork sandwich
The Smoked Duck was also delicious as you immediately picked up the smoke flavor from the duck. It was topped with pickled daikon, bibb lettuce, and the pistachio butter was the highlight of the sandwich with a rich, nutty flavor. The duck was a little dry and lukewarm which definitely detracted from the sandwich, but I’m sure it’s much better when they aren’t mass producing the sandwiches in a short time period.
I would definitely check this place out again. Good work, guys!

Enjoyed the most delicious duck confit on brioche while the Whirly Pig as at the Laurita Food Truck event last weekend. The pears were crisp, the duck melted in my mouth. Certainly one of the most interesting and tasty food trucks at the event!

We had The Whirly Pig come to our house for my husband’s 40^th Birthday Party with 90 guests. All I have to say was it was the best pork dishes that I have had in a long time! His Hog roast slider with pickles, apple slaw, and real hand cut bacon was a crowd pleaser and the the braised pork cheek lettuce wrap was to die for. My husband and guests were raving about how great the food was. They were very professional and even created a special Birthday menu that he designed that went great with our beer tasting theme. When Zach chef/​owner met with me prior to discuss the menu he was planning He was very professional and also made sure that I was happy with the menu he was creating. I had two guests who had gluten allergies and he made sure to have all courses gluten free so my guests could all enjoy every dish. Family business and they sure treated us like family. This is not your average food truck it is above all the rest.

Recently on Thursdays, my friends and I gather for the Great Boar Hunt, i.e., trying to find this elusive lunch truck! It’s well-​worth the effort, for they have some of the best pork I have ever tasted. I have had two kinds of pork belly sandwiches and have tasted my friends’ sandwiches. All have great flavor. The meat is savory and tender. The other ingredients are fresh and of high quality. Plus, their name and logo (a pig wearing a propeller beanie) are amusing. The only reason I did not give them the full five stars is due to their elusiveness. I wish they had a predictable schedule. Whirly Pig, take my money … for your delicious pork sandwiches!

What are the chances of eating pork in three different eateries in the same week and having them all be exceptional? Sazon, Rosa Blanca, and now The Whirly Pig. That’s right, The Whirly Pig, artisan porkmongers. There’s a cartoon logo of a pig wearing a propeller cap on the side of the truck. The moment I saw the man slice the monstrous slab of pork belly inside the truck, I knew I had to try it. «If the pork belly tastes half as good as it looks, I’ll be satisfied,» I told my friend Robert. Indeed, the pork belly sandwich exceeded all of my expectations and then some. The honey-​topped bun was buttered and toasted. The slaw added a nice tang to the tender roasted pork belly. It reminded me of a high-​quality char siu bao (Chinese roast pork bun). On a second visit, I got the Hog Roast Sandwich. Apple slaw and pickles topped six different cuts of meat — pork belly, pork loin, pork butt, pig cheeks, rib meat, and bacon — all inside an onion brioche bun. It was delicious! There are only a handful of sandwiches on the menu and they all look good. You can bet that I’m going to try every one of them over time. It is imperative that you try this truck now. You’ll be glad you did! *** May 22, 2014 UPDATE *** Today I bought the Duck Roast sandwich which includes duck confit in pork fat, gala apple slaw, pickle, and bacon in an onion brioche bun. My first bite elicited the words, «This is frickin’ delicious!» from my mouth. This sandwich is another winner and raises my overall review to a well-​deserved 5 stars. I urge you to try the Hog Roast or Duck Roast sandwiches. These are gourmet restaurant quality sandwiches that will put a smile on your face.
