I originally started doing handyman work in 2009 when I was laid off from my previous career in Advertising Sales & Marketing, and was simply looking to supplement my income while I continued to seek employment in the same field. While I had no formal background in the trades, I had enjoyed home renovation work immensely over the years, and had taught myself everything I could from carpentry and tiling to electric and plumbing.

By month six, it became abundantly clear that my natural obsession with detail and friendly demeanor instantly made me stand out in the marketplace. Demand quickly increased well beyond what I could personally manage. So in 2010, I made the decision to abandon my previous «career» and to focus 110% on my passion, capitalizing on what I saw as an untapped business opportunity. The Home Hero Handyman Service was born.

When a handyman says «I hope this stays up after I leave» — that doesn’t make me feel very comfortable about their work. Now I’m just paranoid that a shelf will fall on my child!
Also, I wouldn’t say they are very quick so because of that I’d have to say that I think they’re pretty pricey.
May consider giving them another chance but I guess I’ll have to see how everything else holds up for the time being.

I am really pleased with how The Home Hero runs. Pete was at our house within 48 hours of an email for a quote. Leah runs a responsive and organized office and we just had Josh at our house to install several cabinets in our children’s room. Josh is skillful, methodical and quick. He solved the hanging arrangement of our shelves by a combination of brackets and making his own supports into the studs. We are having them back to install a fan and other shelves. I would recommend to family. Very pleased.
Note: People complain about prices alot on Unilocal.You get what you pay for. This group is superb as their craftsmanship shows. For their speed and quality, I think they are worth every penny they charge.

Leah is very bad at answering the phone. I WOULD like to request service as my home is near by but I cannot because their office manager is not reachable.
Update: 3 hours later Leah is not available haha, wonder how much lost business has been a result. Nevermind, I will try another company

So glad I found these guys! As any homeowner knows, getting someone out for small jobs is near impossible. To find an outfit that not only specializes in small projects but is also reliable, reasonably priced and does top-​quality work… honestly, I’m still in shock. I hired Home Hero to install an exterior mailbox and some bi-​fold doors on two odd-​sized closets. It required quite a bit of custom fiddling and Bruce did a truly excellent job. Start to finish, everyone was friendly and professional. Their office manager was super responsive when I had questions. And they send you your quotes and invoices online and accept online payments. I will be using them again for sure!

The Home Hero crew was great from start to finish! Scheduling was relatively easy, the estimate was reasonable, and the work was done in a timely manner with a solution– oriented handyman committed to getting the job done. Ken was awesome, found solution s to all my weird old-​house Philadelphia problems. Eli, the project manager came by to double check that everything was done properly. The only shortcoming was the finish work. I will have to paint over some of the patch work, and make a trip to the hardware store to cover over some of the unsightly work that was done to vent my dryer. Luckily I’m not too particular, and they did the tough work I could have never done myself with efficiency and creativity.

If you’re a single female looking for a rent a boyfriend, these are your guys. I’ve had furniture built, mirrors hung, and fans installed by these fine professionals. No issues at all. Gives me great comfort to know I have someone a phone call away to help.

The guys from the home hero were amazing and helped us out immensely. We had a small leak that created some problems in the house including need form some patch work on the ceilings and replacing some tiles in the bathroom. Fast work and very professionally done. With my wife working nights, they were even quiet and willing to take time to minimize noise to accommodate our very busy schedules. Highly recommend them for anyone.

They were very quick to respond to phone calls and email which was fantastic. And overall, they did great work. They left the home clean every day before they left and always were timely and polite. However, the one thing I’d say is that they were on the expensive side. However, I’m also not sure how much things in general should cost since I’m not a handyperson, so take what I say with a grain of salt. I would recommend the work that they provided.

If you have a never ending «honey do» list then you need to call The Home Hero. They are absolutely wonderful! Everyone is so friendly and professional. They were prompt and efficient. Josh explained everything to me prior to beginning the work and was able to fix all the stuff that my prior contractors messed up. I would recommend The Home Hero to anyone in need of a handyman. Their prices are excellent for the quality of work and expertise you receive. I will never use another company again.

Thanks again home hero! Quote, job done, job perfected. We are ready for our next project. I highly recommend this service. We’ve used this service in the past and recently had some water damage. Home hero had it cleaned up perfectly. Now we are planning on doing some more cosmetic type of work and looking forward to using the home hero.

I have used Home Hero a few times since my last review and my experience has been A++. I’ve requested the same contractor and each time he has met all of my expectations. He arrived on time, was very quick in understanding what was being asked, executed perfectly and completed all the tasks in the time allotted. Gold star for Home Hero!

here is what I was just told by Bridget: Pete’s hours are 9 to 3p.m. Mon to Fri so I couldn’t even get him to come for an estimate when i am not at work. Despite the reviews, unless no one works, how would you get an estimate with those hours? They do not seem too interested in getting business.

I’ve used The Home Hero’s services two times now (once for baby-​proofing and once to install a new toilet) and I can confidently say they are the best.
Contractors always show up on time are courteous and willing to explain anything they have to do.
I’m not sure what else to say other than The Home Hero is an incredible company and I will recommend them to anyone I know from now on.

I used the Home Hero for a day’s worth of IKEA assembly. The pricing was $ 450 for a 7-​hour package (I basically furnished my entire 1-​BR apartment and am too incompetent to put stuff together). Nino was my assigned handyman — he was prompt and helpful, and very careful to remove all the boxes and cardboard when he finished. The owner, Pete stopped by too to make sure that everything was going as planned — customer service is definitely their priority. They all seemed to have a good understanding of which parts did what. Impressively, Nino also did eight hours’ worth of work without eating nor peeing — definitely superhero levels of impressive (or I hope their health insurance covers UTIs, haha).
Would definitely recommend!

Where do I start? I have had a series of «visions» since I bought my home seven years ago and while some became reality shortly after settlement, many remained just that, a vision. After sporadic phone calls and meetings with various contractors over the years I just never got a good vibe.
but then… FINALLY… I found Home Hero. Completely different experience.
Pete and Jeff are fantastic. Why? Where do I start? They are patient, dependable, extremely courteous, efficient, neat, great sense of humor, do amazing work, flexible with my ideas, accommodating, trustworthy, clear and fair invoicing practices. This is a business I really do trust. Pete and his staff are friendly, helpful, and punctual. I’ve used The Home Hero for a few odd jobs already and they are always such a pleasure to work with.
But what really sets them apart is that if for some reason they cannot help you with something, they have no problem helping you find someone who can. I called recently and Pete was more than willing to suggest a window business to me and even told me to call back if I need any other references. Amazing!

Home Hero is Faaaaaan-​freaking-​tastic!!!
OK so I had another contractor do some work in my house & majorly C#cked it up. That same contractor wanted to charge me hundreds more to fix HIS mistakes — are you kidding me…
So I did what I should have done in the first place checked Unilocal,I always trust Unilocal and lessoned learned.
I got the half day handy man package with Home Hero and I have to say sheeez the guy that came out Chris was amazing… fixed the mess the previous contractor made & did a waaaaaaay better job, he then put together a basketball hoop for my 7 year old son in my backyard & also did an amazing job installing a swinging chair that hangs from the ceiling for my son.
There were absolutely NO corners cut with Home Hero and it seemed like no job was too big or too small for Home Hero. If I ever need work around the house again I WILL be calling home hero again, even the office staff were friendly and helpful over the phone and unlike other contractors they didnt expect all the money upfront. I paid half when I booked & half upon completion…
All other contractors need to take a lesson from Home Hero — YOU GUYS ROCK!!!

I got the 2 hour handyman package to buy a bathroom fan, install it, and touch up my leaky tub. They completed all within the two hours with time to spare and they were the easiest people to work with. I was in D.C. the whole time and I did not have a problem with anything.
