It’s great to be able to get some free mulch /​compost but we took 2 trash cans full of brush that we cut from our yard and the gum chomping eye rolling bureaucrat charged us $ 10 to dump it there. I’m just trying keep to it out of the landfill. Thanks next time I’ll just let the sanitation department pick it up for free. Not very environmentally friendly of you ask me. It’s not like I’m a big landscaper trying to get rid of stuff from a job.

The Organic Recycling Center in Fairmount Park is a godsend to any Philadelphia gardener. As a resident you are entitled to free compost and mulch. I have used this service a few times now and it is great for those of us that don’t have the room in our city apartment to compost a lot. I am so thankful for the ability to enhance the soil at my community garden plot. Even if you just need a little bit, it’s nice to have a free place to get it. The one downside they are only open until 3 pm on weekdays and 7:30 — 11:30am on Saturdays.
