History

Established in 1898.

The company was originally founded by Thomas Barwiss Hagstoz in 1898, and has been operating in the same location on Philadelphia’s Jeweler’s Row for over 115 years. It started as a refining business where all types of scrap metal, hand wash, polishing, and floor sweepings would be turned into pure metals. In the 1950s, it was taken over by George S. Hagstoz and the business expanded to include refining and assaying, and the sale of jewelry tools, equipment, and findings. Currently, it is owned and operated by TB Hagstoz’s 4^th generation descendants, Ross & Arthur Thomas Hagstoz.

One employee of note is John F. Glueck, who worked for four generations of the Hagstoz family. He started at 11 years old in 1913 and did not miss a paycheck for over 80 years, finally retiring at age 91 in 1993.

Ross Elliott Hagstoz Jr. began working at TB Hagstoz in 2007, under the supervision of his father, Ross & uncle, Arthur.

When not hard at work, he enjoys playing disc golf, watching the Phillies, Eagles, Flyers, and Union, or playing with his 3 young daughters.
