Taylor’s Certified Auto Service

I’ve been getting my car inspected by Jim for 3 years. He is friendly, knowledgeable and doesn’t invent extra BS to bill me for. He’s always been on schedule too (inspections take about 1 hour). My only complaint is that the waiting room is a bit run down. Recommended.

I took my car here for four times last year (state inspection, tire change, and minor repairs), but I was too lazy to write a review until today.
Jim (owner) is a nice guy. He only does the job you asks and the charge is fair. The only thing that bothers me is that he’s not good at picking up your call… I guess that’s because this is a one-​man shop and he’s always working in the garage.

Jim is the best. I took my car to PepBoys…(never ever take your car to Pepboys) Jim fixed everything that the clowns at PepBoys messed up. His wife picked me up from the CVS so I didnt have to walk down the dark road… they are a great team.

Excellent service. Jim was polite and helpful on the phone, friendly in person, and completed my inspection quickly. He let me know I’d need brake pads soon and gave me his card, but wasn’t pushy about trying to get me to fix them on the spot.
I don’t have much else to say because, really, this is all I need from a garage. I guess the waiting area chairs could have been more comfy, for for heaven’s sake, I’m not subtracting points for that.
It’s crazy hard to find. I recommend looking on Google Streetview to familiarize yourself with the area before you go. (Norwitch is the street directly behind the Philadelphia Auto Mall, if that helps.)

Taylor’s is a great little auto repair place in South Philly. I was originally towed here after my car wouldn’t start for some unknown reason. As soon as my car got off the trailer — it magically started and worked perfectly fine! Del (the manager/​owner), smiled and shrugged his shoulders… then he showed me his son’s new project Prelude with an newer H22 engine in it, which was really cool. I walked away from this incident surprised at how nice and personable Del was and impressed that he didn’t charge me anything for taking a look at my misbehaving car (but I did hand him 5 bucks for his trouble).
Anyway, I have since sold that troublesome vehicle and bought a newer and more reliable one. The inspection was nearly expired and I knew it needed new brake rotors. I was also concerned about the belts because they were making a whining noise upon start up. I took it down to Taylor’s Auto on a Sunday morning around 9 AM. I walked off to get a bite to eat (I was exhausted and pretty hung-over…serious drinking had been going on the night before)…I came back a few hours later and after a little more waiting, the car was finished at a very reasonable expense.
Here’s why I highly recommend Taylor’s:
— I told Del that I thought it needed new brakes, I did not actually need new brakes and he was honest about it. Grade = A+
— I told Del I thought I needed the belts replaced because they were whining upon start up. His employee discovered the alternator belt was a little loose, they tightened it for 25 dollars instead of telling me I needed to replace all the belts for 130 dollars. Grade = A+
— The soda machine jammed when I tried to buy a drink… Del tried to shake it loose for me. When that failed, he put in some of his own money and bought me another one. Grade = A+
While the work took a little longer than I expected, I can’t really down grade the place for that — for the price, the honestly and the quality of the work — it’s worth the wait.
If you need basically anything done to your car in the Philly area, go to Taylor’s…he’s a nice guy and does great work.
PS — I’m pretty sure he mentioned that he worked at a Honda dealership for 20-​some years… another plus if you’ve got a Honda/​Acura!

It’s Tuesday… I went to Taylor’s on Sunday. I have increased my rating from 4 stars to 5 stars. In today’s mail, a card came from Taylor’s thanking me for using their business and letting me know if I needed anything to contact them. A business card was included. I have never gotten anything like this from any type of business. This is true class and amazing customer service.
