They are knowledgable about their art and artists. I go for the cool jewels. Is a fun place to stop in and look around when walking the Rittenhouse area.

This is a great shop for local, handmade items! Some of the artists are a little pricey, but that isn’t the fault of the store. A little difficult to find things for men. It is mostly women’s accessories. I would like to see more artists making baby and kid stuff (besides onesies and tees); toys would be great. Also, more stuff for the home would be nice. I do a lot of holiday and other gift shopping here.

Great store, friendly staff, and unique collection of tshirts, jewlery, cards, accessories, and tons of other things. Their selection of items is great (stuff for the ‘girly-​girl’ and ‘not so girly-​girl’).

Finally stopped in after meaning to for months– couldn’t believe I hadn’t been here before. Great collection of jewelry and art appropriate for a variety of ages and interests. Came looking for something for mother’s day and happily found a perfect card and some great little items to send my mom– could have spent more on myself if I let myself, and will definitely be back. I was given time and space to browse, and did so happily. Check it out!

Refreshingly nice, helpful and friendly staff for Rittenhouse Square area. This place has a great selection of ecclectic and unique items that make great gifts! I saw at least 3 pieces of jewelry I wanted to buy for myself but ended up buying the cutest ballerina pendant necklace for a friend’s daughter. I thought the prices were extremely reasonable given that everything is handmade and eye-​catching. I intend to stop in frequently now that I know it exists. I would definitely recommend checking this place out, especially if you want something a little different than other stores in this location.

Its a great place for buying local gifts. I bought a wool cowl for myself there that I essentially haven’t taken off since. I bought a great pair of glass earrings for my mom as well that I know she’ll love. The employees are very nice and helpful if you ask for assistance.

square peg definitely has Unilocal to thank for the $ 200+ i dropped there yesterday (not all on presents for me, sheesh!). until a few days ago, i had never heard of the shop but i saw them mentioned in the most recent weekly Unilocal round-​up. i was instantly intrigued and a bit… embarrassed maybe (rueful? regretful?)? as a kid growing up in philly i knew all the cool shopping spots, but as i got older (and busier) so much cool shit just doesn’t hit my radar…
but thankfully, places like square peg get the attention they deserve. it took be about ten minutes to get past the first six feet of the shop. i wanted to touch (and buy) everything i saw and was barely successful in buying more for those on my shopping list than i was for myself. i am not going to list my specific purchases (since the recipients may read this review), but to give you an idea of what the shop has… leather cuffs, awesome jewelry (including fresh fruit earrings. intrigued? go check em out. :D and cool pendants, buttons and bracelets/​necklaces), small crafted keepsakes and magnets, knitted bits of prettiness, pleasantly pungent soy candles (i have never smelled candles this fragrant, in a good way for sure. and yes, the alliteration is a oblique reference to penny pingleton is permanently punished in case you were wondering…), bags/​purses, baby onesies and assorted prints… i am sure there are tons of other perfect presents there, and i was able to finish up two people on my list and make headway on a third (and find something a little extra for my sister). i LOVE places like this, perfect for presents and goodies (or when you want to indulge yourself)…thank you Unilocal for the word…

Cool little place with a variety of items. I really liked that they carried handmade leather cuff bracelets. They also had a nice selection of seasonal (halloween themed) items when I was there, from earrings to greetings cards. The owner is nice, I LOVE the fact that she lets you browse and doesnt hang over you like white on rice.

I was walking back to my car after dropping a friend off, and the sign on this store caught my eye. That, and the window painting that was happening as I walked by. I stopped in for a few minutes, and was amazed– how had I never heard of this place before?! I saw a tile that caught my eye, and asked the woman (who I later found out was the owner) if she had it in a pendant. She said no, but she would be happy to order it for me. She took my name and email, and didn’t make me leave her money. I really appreciated the no-​pressure environment. I ended up walking out with the cutest pair of rainbow crocheted earrings. If the money hadn’t been running out of my parking meter, I would have stayed a lot longer. I will DEFINITELY be back, especially for gifts. I thought the prices were way better than the average art store.

As of now I may be the only man to review this place. But I’m happy to step it up and give credit when acknowledging such good service, and so many incredible items is due!
When your mom has as much of an eclectic and artistic taste as mine does, you need to find a store that has just the right amount of both for that perfect Mothers Day gift. Fortunately I remembered how many incredible bags and hand crafted jewelry pieces I had the chance to bask in when I visited Square peg to checkout the art that my friend Jane had up on Easter weekend. and my remembering might of just made Mothers Day, as well as a few gifts to impress easy for many years to come!
From the moment I walked in it was pretty self evident that I was clueless guy looking for the last minute gift to surprise my mom with. But the staff was extra accommodating, explaining the incredible sell that they had for the holiday (15% off), and giving me my space to search for my inspiration. And in the end I found it by giving my mom the key to my appreciation, which was attached to a handcrafted necklace that also had several fantastic baubles attached. I also added a magnet that gave modern family a Victorian edge, and a local art card with a peacock on the front for good measure. Upon paying the amazing woman working the register even provided one of their amazing boxes, and an amazing bag that was made out of pink ribbon and the arts page of the New York Times! with service, merchandise, and presentation this good I know I’m destined to be back!

Interesting and eclectic mix of items that are given a second life. I have been to Square Peg a handful of times and about 50% of the time I walk out with something. Usually, it is a few nice bars of soap or a cute pair of funky (and inexpensive) earrings but the art pieces usually catch my eye and I’m hoping at some point to find the right item to bring home.
This is a great spot to find gifts for that friend of yours that drags you to punk rallies or «gently» reminds you you’re a bad person for eating meat. You know, the person who would appreciate bottle caps turned into a necklace or hand-​sewn mittens by a local artist. Good people and a great little store.

Wonderful artists’ consignment shop that’s almost too cool to be in Rittenhouse. Although I’m glad it is, because I can always find a gift for my loved ones (and myself) within this multifarious little shop. Need oven mitts with human organs printed on them? Check. I might go back for the burlap-​colored dishtowels with the red brains printed on them for myself. But that’s just one artist. There is also beautiful jewelry that’s reasonably priced. I love the one-​of-​a-​kind hand blown glass drop earrings for under 30 bucks. I loved them so much I would’ve also bought a pair for myself, but am happy to know that they are as lovely and unique as my bff and have a good home with her. Sarah Kratzer’s glass jewelry is also some of my favorite stuff that has me buying one as a gift and one for myself — with unique, quality necklaces ranging in the $ 25-​$ 50 range. There is also slightly more expensive jewelry and other cool crafts and housewares that would be reasonably priced for someone who gets paid in dollars and not prestige but, alas, someone has to sit in an ivory tower.
Stop in and give this combo gallery and shop some love. The monthly new artist reception (on the first Saturday of every month from 6 – 9) would be a good time to check it out if you’ve been walking by and haven’t made it in yet.

Prices are really reasonable, merch is creative, the guy working when I went in had floppy hair and looked like a cross between young Elvis Costello (complete with glasses!) and John Cusack with a little greasy Jack White thrown into the mix.
Apparently, there is a gallery showing some time soon and I’m told it won’t be a bland time.

I was excited by the window displays, but was slightly disappointed by what I found inside. The stuff they have inside is interesting and fun, but the prices really are somewhat prohibitive. I guess I can’t really expect much cheaper from handmade stuff, but just once I’d like to find one of these cool little stores where I can actually afford something.
I wound up buying a tiny bar of olive oil soap encased in a sort-​of cute hastily sewn together pouch for $ 2.50. Also, the reason I give them four stars instead of three is this little box they have near the register with free cloth and canvas for people to take home to make their own projects. I got a fairly sizable length of canvas and hope to make my own tote bag, inspired by the $ 20 bags on display in the store.

I had walked past this place thousands of times on my way to work and never had a chance to stop in. I finally did. I loved the place except for the incense burning.
Lots of really different items. Everything is handmade and consigned. Really neat and worth choking from incense.
