Was I skeptical even after reading all the glowing reviews? Yes. Was I slightly stunned and unsure about my new cut upon leaving the salon? Yup. But sometimes you need someone else to be the change, it can’t ALWAYS be you.
Backstory: In less time than it might take a procrastinator to graduate college (6 years, ahem), I went from being a somewhat crazy party girl to a slightly unkempt mom of 3. How exactly this happened is something I’m still trying to figure out. I think it may involve ornithology & beekeeping or possibly cabbage patches and storks? Most likely poor planning but I digress.
Anyway… from reading reviews, Jenni the co-​owner obviously has an incredibly loyal following. If you book with her, be prepared to wait for an appointment if you want a prime time. The salon itself is hidden inside a converted rowhome on S Broad & retains an elegant but welcoming feel to the place. Jenni herself is incredibly outgoing, opinionated & personable. She gave me tips on styling my hair (I’m a strict ponytail gal) that I at least tried to follow for a few weeks! My cut itself was a little more severe than I would have gone without her guidance. I was on the fence to be honest. But it has grown in lovely & it’s the first cut in years where I haven’t touched the front layers myself– at home– with nail scissors –over the sink (I know, wtf). So go forth with confidence & try a new look. This place will suit you too I bet.

I don’t know why I have been neglecting to write a review. I have been going to Prep and Foxx for about a year and a half. I started going there when I found out that Jenni had left her previous salon to open her own spot in South Philly. I have always loved the way she cut my hair and I was so happy to hear she had her own spot. She and Taylor, co-​owner and nail artist extrodinaire, are quite the pair. The salon is always clean, comfortable, and a fun place to be. I am obsessed with the magic that Taylor works on my nails. My manicures are the envy of many a colleague and friend. They take their time to treat you well, educate you on products and the best way to care for your hair and nails, and their prices are incredibly reasonable. I got married a few weeks ago and I bought out the salon for the day for all of my girls and I to get our hair and make up for the wedding. They treated us incredibly well and we had so much fun. Everyone looked gorgeous. I have never walked out of here not happy with a haircut or manicure. I highly recommend this salon!

This is my go to for Blow outs. $ 20 a blow out if you buy 5 package. The service & the ambience is wonderful. Excellent customer service!

Love everything about this place! Great manicures and pedicures. Haven’t gotten my hair cut there but from the looks of women I see walking out of there their hair stylists are great too.

I started seeing Jenni in 2009 at her former salon. At the time, I lived local and went on the recommendation of a friend. I am very picky, and I bleach my hair to the whitest possible level. Jenni met and exceeded my expectations as to color, and impressed me with her focus on the health of my hair. I kept seeing her and within months the condition of my hair drastically improved. I was able to maintain a platinum blond level and the breakage/​frizzies stopped. I didn’t think that was possible before I met Jenni.
Haircuts are amazing! It never made sense to me why hair dressers cut wet when hair looks and styles completely different after it’s dry. It doesn’t make sense to Jenni either. She cuts dry, and the result is that when I do my hair, it looks the same as when I left the salon. After a Jenni-​cut, my hair is straight instead of being crooked after a wet cut :)
Prices are more than reasonable. I lived in North Jersey for 25 years and routinely paid hundreds for mediocre highlights and a cut. I was never happy with the results and often returned for «corrections». (I actually met Jenni when I got sick of making the trek for a «correction» and went to see her instead). The prices at Prep & Foxx are more than reasonable, especially considering the level of attention to detail, amount of time dedicated to each client, and the fact that they are able to maintain (and improve) the integrity of your hair. Jenni and the staff at Prep & Foxx are dedicated to hair education, and they routinely attend courses and events to continue to improve at their craft while their peers continue to work from existing knowledge only.
Before my first visit to Prep & Foxx, I viewed manicurists as interchangeable. Taylor ended that. She is a true artist and is equally dedicated to nail health as Jenni is to hair health. I had no idea that I had ingrown toenails until Taylor looked at my feet. I go for pedicures regularly and no one had ever mentioned that. One quick snip, and my world changed forever. All of the pressure (which I didn’t even realize I had) was released and my toes felt like they could breathe for the first time. (I know it’s not pretty but I’m going for honest here.) Taylor’s nail designs are truly original and I each time I leave there I feel like a walking piece of art :) Her manis and pedis last much longer than the ones you get at a typical nail place.
The vibe at Prep & Foxx is low-​key, no drama, non-​pretentious, and no gossip or catiness. The décor is retro-​vintage. Need a beer, glass of wine or snack? Did I mention it’s complimentary? I actually enjoy the time that I get to spend at this place, chilling out and relaxing with some pretty awesome girls.
I am beyond proud to see that Jenni and Taylor have gone out on their own. At her prior salon, Jenni was so booked that they were turning clients away. I have moved but continue to make the drive to Jenni (2 hrs) because she is worth it! The last time I called, weekends were booked 4 mos. out so an appointment is suggested although they do take walk-​ins. I wish Jenni the best, and I don’t have to hope that she succeeds because she already has. Xoxo

I am so happy to have found Prep& Foxx and grateful to have met my new stylist, Gina. From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed and valued as a customer. Gina took her time looking over my cut (this girl had her work cut out for her!!!) and listening to what I was trying to go for. Saying Gina is thorough is not enough– the amount of time she spent with me was more than I’d had with a stylist before and as a result I walked out with an amazing cut that I absolutely LOVE!!! For the first time ever, I actually booked my next appointment! There is not a single aspect of this salon to not love– the staff are super-​friendly, highly educated and lots of fun. This professional is seriously dedicated to her craft.
Taylor has been caring for my nails for the past 6 months and I couldn’t be happier.
In addition to making sure you walk away with pretty, pretty nails, she’s educated enough to provide advice/​recommendations if you have a nail problem (athletes/​ladies in heels all day, you know what I’m talking about).
It’s no more expensive than those places with lines of dirty spa chairs.

I hate talking about places I love because then they get busy and I can’t make last minute appointments anymore. And Jenni and Taylor know that I am the queen of last minute appointments. So… LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT JENNI AND TAYLOR.
First up: Jenni. She’s been doing my hair for years now… and I waited a year to get in with her busy schedule at her last salon. I trust Jenni with my hair COMPLETELY. Sometimes I’ll make a suggestion for my hair that she politely informs me isn’t a good one. And she’s always right. I hear her teaching clients about what works well and why with their hair every time I’m in there (which is often because TAYLOR. see below) Jenni knows hair, knows what works well for different people depending on the type of hair they have, and I might take out a life insurance policy on her because I“m not sure what I’d do if she were gone.
Getting my nails done with Taylor is like a visit with a friend each and every time. Especially because I’m usually drunk off the one glass of wine they’ve given me by the end (unless it’s a long hair + nails appointment, then I’ve definitely had more than 1 glass). I have terrible, brittle nails that Taylor has painstakingly helped me start to care for and love. She’s so creative with whatever design I’m going with that day (and it’s usually up to her because her ideas are better than mine) I actually enjoy having feminine nails for the first time ever.
I love this place! Now don’t go take all my last minute appointments…

Love Jenni and Taylor! I have been going to Jenni for 2 – 3 years and she always gives me a beautiful cut and color. When she opened the new salon with her partner Taylor, I started getting my nails done again with Taylor. She turned me on to this amazing nail polish that lasts forever-​Vinylux– but isn’t gel. Love them both!!!

Jenni has been my stylist since I moved to Philadelphia 3.5 years ago. She is the absolute best! I get stopped and complimented all the time about my hair. Taylor is also amazing. My nails look great and she does the most creative nail art ever! I can’t say enough positive things about this salon and everyone who works here.

This hair and nail salon is a bit of a hidden gem in the city. On Broad street with an understated sign, the salon is a bit of an eclectic shabby chic throwback. However, the haircut, color treatments and nail services are modern, done extremely well and with fantastic results.
As a curly-​hair girl, it is tough going to find stylists that can cut and style curly hair. Jenni has continually done a fantastic job. My color treatments always look great and she takes great care to make sure your hair continues to be healthy and well maintained.
If you want to take your nails to the next level, skip the corner nail salon and make an appointment with Taylor. She only uses products that won’t ruin your nails. (We all know how some of the gels can strip your nails.) Plus, if you are into funky nail art, this is definitely the place.
Point being, why aren’t you coming here already?

I’m so glad to have found this salon when I moved to Philly in 2014. The services are top notch but the atmosphere is what makes me a loyal client. Taylor does my brows and nails and Gina is my hairstylist. Both are awesome at what they do and I always leave feeling like a superstar. Everyone who works there is friendly, welcoming and down to earth. It’s a homey but hip environment that’s not intimidating or snooty like some salons. I love it so much that I want to keep it to myself but they deserve the accolades so I will have to deal!

I love treating myself to manicures here. I can always come in with an idea of what I want and they know how to make a design that’s awesome. AND my nails last for weeks without chipping. Prep & Foxx has fair prices, friendly service, a fun atmosphere and talented people!

Jenni has been cutting my hair since 2009, the only stylist I’ve ever patronized loyally. I followed her from fishtown to her very own salon and no regrets! Every time I see her I have 100% faith that I will leave happy with my haircut. The first time Jenni cut my hair she turned my drab long hair into a cute angled bob. It has since become my favorite haircut. The best thing about her is that she takes the time to listen and talk about what you want. If you don’t know what you want, trust that Jenni’s eye for hair will leave you with a style that’ll look good/​appropriate with your face shape, etc. The salon is so accommodating that Jenni even came in early on a Sunday to style my hair for my cousin’s wedding!
I can’t say enough about how great Prep & Foxx is. I already have an appointment for next week and I’m looking forward to seeing Jenni and my manicure with Taylor!

Jenni has been my hair stylist for almost 5 years now. When she left Plume, I was disappointed because I could walk there and South Philly just sounded so far away. So I tried a new salon, loved by many of my friends, whose cuts were half the price. Well, the universe punished me for cheating on Jenni with a couple of mediocre and then a pretty bad cut — and then it rewarded me with a sweet new South Philly apartment! All is right in my world again. Jenni welcomed me back with open arms, my special needs hair is back in her expert hands, and I can walk to my haircut again. Though let me be clear, it’s worth traveling for! Her new salon is beautiful, Jenni is friendly, accommodating, and unpretentious as always, and supporting her business feels awesome. I can’t wait to try a mani pedi in the spring.

Best salon in Philadelphia… ! Ladies know exactly what their talking about, and each have their own personalities.

For the past five years Jenni has given me some of the best haircuts of my life at Plume (
). Of course the engaging conversation and beer that the salon offered didn’t hurt either. So when I heard that she was moving onto a salon of her own that she was opening with a manicurist friend in my favorite part of South Philly, I was ready to head down and give it a shot. And when I finally did I found all of the things that originally had me sold and then some!
The new space is a quaint first floor salon across from the Dolphin that features vintage furniture, artsy knick knacks and baubles, a small but roomy salon with a manicurist station, and a serene back outdoor patio that is totally zen. Its perfectly feng shui’ed to fit the style of both Jenni and her partner.
From being offered a Sprecher Summer Pilsner and a tour of the salon upon entering, to the conversation that happened throughout my cut service was definitely solid. And after reviewing my specifications Jenni hooked me up with a dynamite short cut that can just as easily made sleek and professional as it can be wild and spiky. And all of the above definitely sums up why tPrepp & Foxx is my new salon of choice.

I was a loyal customer to Jenni when she was at her previous salon and was a little broken hearted when she sent out notice she was leaving. But happy for her she opened her own salon. I love how she does my hair so I made my first appointment and made the drive down into South Philly.
It’s an adorable spot and very cozy! It has such a better feel than big salons. Parking wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be either. Just a warning for now there’s no sign but the building number is well displayed.
Jenni is a really sweet person and is a great stylist. This is the first time ever that I have followed someone so I guess that’s saying SOMETHING!!! Please, go check her out because I would love to see her do well!
Prices are pretty normal. In addition to hair she also waxes (but I think no bikini type waxing). She’s quick and fairly painless. Her partner does nails and I have an upcoming mini mani-​pedi schedule in the not too distant future. It’s great to be able to get all of these services in one spot in a nice, warm cozy environment!
