A couple of my friends work at Northwestern Mutual, and they invited me to discuss financial planning. So I did, but I had my reservations about it, given that at the time I didn’t have a full time job nor did fiduciary standards apply to our situation. I’m glad that I didn’t go in on it. After asking friends and family(who are professional investors), they said I was wise for turning down their plan(which I had idea no how they determined that this plan was in my best interest). It’s a one plan fits all idea. Unfortunately most people who buy into it are illy informed. If you seek financial planning, find people who aren’t salesmen. Rather, find people who are in it for YOU.
